You’ll never believe this, but more basketball games are on tonight. Here’s the vitals:
New York Knicks @ Detroit Pistons – 4:00 PM PT / 7:00 PM ET
- Series is tied 1-1
- The Pistons secured a 100–94 victory in Game 2, ending a 17-year playoff win drought.
Oklahoma City Thunder @ Memphis Grizzlies – 6:30 PM PT / 9:30 PM ET
- OKC leads the series 2-0
- I’m not mad that the Kings don’t have to play in this series.
Denver Nuggets @ Los Angeles Clippers – 7:00 PM PT / 10:00 PM ET
- Series is tied 1-1
- I hate how dangerous I think this Clippers team is.
Go Kings! Oh wait…
Gone Kings…
I’m all in on the Pistons. Also Nuggets/Clippers has been an insanely entertaining series thus far.
Yeah, those 2 series’ and HOU v GS are the first rounders I’ve been watching.
I was somewhat hopeful just two weeks ago, that the Sacramento Kings basketball would redeem themselves, and Coach Christie, and GM McNair, and they’d take this island of broken and misfit toys and coalesce into a competitive basketball team worthy of consideration for this season and then the next.
Then they took the Gone Fishin’ route and after one competitive quarter of Play-In basketball, they wrote their tickets home, on a 44-19 second quarter against the Dallas Mavericks. End of season. All she wrote. To quote the great Chick Hearn
I was flabbergasted and flummoxed with disappointment. For a day anyway.
That was so so very long ago.
The Mavs went on to play the Grizzlies and lost by the same score the Kings lost to Dallas. The Grizzlies then got into the playoffs! (and deservedly so with their final record the same as the Kings 48-34 which was third in the West and top of the Pacific Division, just two seasons ago).
But oh my goodness! The OKC Thunder did an all out number on Memphis both offensively (131) and defensively (80 points, 68-36 halftime score) in Game 1 and not as embarrassing but a strong Game 2 win as well.
I have to believe that the Sacramento Kings would not have fared better, and possibly, somehow worse (because it would’ve surprised no one).
And just like that! I felt better about Sacramento not making the playoffs.
Your Sacramento Kings – ignorance and apathy are their trademarks. (I don’t know and I don’t care).
Welcome aboard Scott Perry.
Took me 20 tries to keep our pick on the Tankathon lottery simulator today. But we captured the Flagg!
30 tries today and only got the 4th pick.
I wonder how they will do the Draft Lottery. Will the 13th pick have a representative from Sac or Atl or both? Both in the lottery room and on the reveal stage.
I haven’t watched any playoff game except the highlights on nba.com. No undue stress last week. Ignorance is bliss.
IMO, Dyson Daniels got robbed of DPOY. He just had the most steals in a season this century. It was second most in 29 years behind Gary Payton (who won DPOY that year). Keep in mind, Daniels just did this in a league that heavily favors the offensive player. If Rudy Gobert can get DOY multiple times a year for simply blocking shots, why can’t a guard get DPOY for getting the most steals in nearly 30 years? Only 3 guards have won DPOY in the last 30 years.
Nothing against Mobley. He’s really good! I just think if the Hawks had a better record, Dyson Daniels would have won.
For sure.
I don’t think he was robbed. I think steals are a very messy stat that a lot of people have recognized are not an overall indicator of defensive prowess. How you get steals matters, and Daniels is definitely a disruptive defender, but a lot of his steals are jumping passing lanes. Very different than how Gary Payton was getting most of his steals.
This isn’t to knock Daniels, I think he had a great season and he should be a lock for first team all defensive. I think Mobley is a very impactful defender, in a very important position and a very important role on a very good defensive team. The Hawks, after all, were the 18th ranked team in defensive rating.
I would have felt he was robbed if they had given it to Draymond.
Where I think Daniels is going to be robbed is Most Improved Player. I think the award will go to Cade, and while Cade had a great season I think his jump is far less impressive than Dyson’s jump this season.
Whoa! A voice from the past! How long has it been? Are the boys all grown up now? Or did they drive you back to the site?
Wife’s already sick of having him around so much!
Pffft, someone has already stolen Greg’s screen name, but he makes a good point.
Kings should consider finding a way to trade for Scottie Pippen Jr. I think he could be a solid starting PG. I like his scrappiness.
Would make a killer jersey too. He should’ve gone for that layup tho instead of passing back to Ja.
One would think that he wouldn’t come cheap. He is on a high value contract ($2.3m / $2.5mm / $2.8m over the next three years after this one), and given the upheaval in Memphis, I wouldn’t bet against them trying to move Ja. They could have a starting backcourt of Pippen and Wells for $4-5M a year for the next three years.
So prepping myself for a prime Vivek move of Domas to Memphis for Ja and Jackson (not that one! GG. Jackson) and we start Ja, Zach, Keegan, GG and JV next season.
Yup. He’s excellent Ja insurance should Morant ask out. I’d imagine the front office really values Pippen Jr’s production and contract. Just like I’d hope Perry values Keon Ellis in the same way.
