Miami defense is swarming the Kings offensive sets. King relying on a lot of ISO ball with Monk and DeRozan taking 13 of the Kings 24 shots. System players like Keegan and Ellis not getting a lot of shot opportunities due to Miami’s scheme. Doug is going to have his hands full with Spolstra tonight.
I understand he’s more skilled and the better scorer, but it’s kinda felt for two years like Sabonis is our best player rather than Fox? Is that just me?
I think Rob coined the phrase: “Fox is the best player, but Sabonis is the most important player.” From that, I’d wager the Kings could potentially win more games without Fox than the could without Sabonis.
My point would be that the guy who contributes more to winning is probably your best player. The game is played 5v5 and that’s the game Sabonis excels at.
Agreed. I think it could be stated that Sabonis makes those around him better, while Fox not as much. Maybe that’s just a characteristic of ISO scores (see DDR). What’s been surprising is how Monk may be a better creator than Fox, but also has a dynamic ISO game.
Well, without Sabonis, we’re throwing a front court combo of Len, Lyles, and Murray out there. Fox is an outstanding player but I think the ball moves around the floor a lot better without him right now. Plus, Keon is in a groove on defense and gains confidence on offense daily.
I’d argue that Domas is more skilled at this point. He’s stronger and uses that strength a lot, but he’s also a much improved shooter, has his passing ability, and a decent set of post moves, whereas Fox seems intent on making his entire game “chuck 8 threes and 9 midranges with a couple blown layups thrown in for 6/20 shooting”
Sabonis used to miss a lot of bunnies, shy away from the middie, and wasn’t a reliable 3pt shooter. None of that is true this year. He’s got great touch and confidence from every spot on the floor. Combine that with the fact he never takes a play off, always makes the right play, and leads the league in rebounding – that guy sounds like a team’s best player.
Who knows what the rotation would be tonight the minute the Kings get down 5 points with Brown at the helm. This team has become watchable again. Doug McDermott only makes appearances in very limited, game-specific situations, no Colby Jones, no throwing Jae Crowder out there just to see what happens.
I don’t think Brown was trying to get fired but the endless tinkering was so self-defeating. For a 6 game stretch, they haven’t underperformed and I don’t curse at the TV for 35 of 48 minutes. It’s really refreshing. I hope this team sticks around a while.
They been having cutters run to the strip, where the hole is, but it’s going in there and dying. Gotta take the midrange, kick it out to an open shooter, or the backdoor dunkers spot.
Last night was the most satisfying but tonight was the most exhilarating. Mad at myself for selling my tix for tonight but thrilled with this win. Down 17 with a little over 8 to go. What grit. Keon really came of age this game and DDR just did his shit when it mattered most.
Let’s go D and 3s
Ballsy, unnecessary, and it might actually work
Challenging the 1st play of the game? That’s some Mike Brown type of stuff right there.
There is a signature DC move to double trap quickly.
Herro gonna lose all his cornbread to Keon tonight
If he didn’t break his nose! I don’t understand what Spoelstra was challenging there!
Dumb challenge by Splostra.
Pretty sure Bam missed a shot so badly they just called Sabonis for a foul out of disbelief
Man if Christie fixes both Huerter AND Keegan on offense we might be cooking with some gas
Way less ball movement from the Kings so far this game.
Unlike the Dubs, the Heat are playing defense
How many shots from 3 feet or less have we missed already?
Yeah, starting out looking like a SEGABABA.
Someone slow down Herro, please.
No shots for Ellis or Keegan yet, meanwhile Monk is 1-6. Move that ball like last game.
Heat defense making things real hard for the Kings right now. Kings are fighting, but they’ll need shots to fall.
Carter playing leapfrog
That was insane
Field goal percentage in the paint for the Kings tonight might be single digits. They are getting there, just missing all those easy ones.

The Kings can learn a lot from the way this Heat team defends. How on earth do the Warriors have a better defensive rating than this team?
18 – 4 advantage for Heat in points in the paint. Time to pick up the low post D.
Carter is a fearless player
and he has confidence.
I understand he’s more skilled and the better scorer, but it’s kinda felt for two years like Sabonis is our best player rather than Fox? Is that just me?

The difference between Monk and Fox offensively has become very slim which is… interesting…
Fox is a much more reliable defender tho
True.

Domas’ one on one defense against Bam has been outstanding so far.
Man, Brown wanted to get fired. Either that or he’s so bad at coaching that he should never coach again.

Keep playing fast, Heat will fizzle out in 4th
I think so too. They’re hitting the Kings with their best punch right now and the Kings are weathering it.
So much ISO ball and not much off ball movement to close the half.
We have to get Keegan an open look early in the 3rd. He needs to see one go down.
Agreed. But Keegan can help himself by seeking a floater in the lane or trying to get to the stripe.
You called that.,,twice!
Hmmm, Vivek handed out custom Kings jersey’s to A’s players at halftime.
Some ugly basketball by the Kings right now
They look tired. Legs look heavy in transition.
I think it could also be some really good defense by Miami.
Kinda seems like DC called his timeout early
Miami zone is proving a tough nut to crack for the Kings.
How do they attack the zone?
They been having cutters run to the strip, where the hole is, but it’s going in there and dying. Gotta take the midrange, kick it out to an open shooter, or the backdoor dunkers spot.
10 points feels like an enormous lead tonight
Sure does. The Kings struggled for all 18 of their points in that quarter. This is the type of game where Fox driving the paint would be helpful.
Yup. Fox would make a big difference in this game.
Kings got to stop making risky/bad passes in the paint.
Why the hell are we still playing small ball?
Ware is altering lots of shots. Kings look timid going in there against him.
Doesn’t look like it’s happening tonight, folks. Tough loss before seeing Boston.
Miami is so well coached. Everyone moves on a string, no matter who they have in there.
Yup, and their coach is a vampire. The dude doesn’t age.
Haha – Asian don’t raisin.
Half this Heat team looks like Jamie from Progressive.
Wow, you can’t stop the ball once it’s in play.
Need a run here in the next few minutes or this will for sure be a loss.
Damnit, there’s the hope again
I am just happy they aren’t wilting.
Keon is everywhere on defense. The dude needs 30+ minutes a night.
I just don’t understand how Brown missed the blatantly obvious decision to play him.
For all we know, it could have been a factor into why Monte fired him.
Adam you may very well be right. The pace of the offense may be another. This 2025 team looks much better in terms of the ball moving in transition.
This is a completely different team from 2024’s Kings.
Not a good ISO possession there for the Kings.
I did NOT like DDR dribbling for a good 12 seconds there then taking a contested 25 footer.
Nope, me either.
I did NOT like it either.
Same shit Fox does
Different guy, same dumbass bricked long two to try and win the game then give the other team the ball and a bunch of time.
Win or lose, this is the most competitive the Kings have looked all year with the chips down.
I’m confused. Kevin had possession with 1.3 seconds left. Why did the game end?
Great comeback. Let’s carry it into OT. Go Kings
I wish Doug would try Carter out there for a couple mins instead of DDR.
This aged like spoiled milk lol
Bam is 4-15 tonight. Sabonis came to play D too, apparently.
Holy shit that was a Vlade tip out right there by Keegan
Would like to not see another Demar 20-footer
Please don’t iso, please don’t iso, please don’t iso…
Iso. 🙂
Dang, why did Monk think he could get to the paint like that?
I say DDR for the win. Who says no?
Nice call
Please for the love of god, play defense for 0.9 seconds
And now for 5 minutes
Haha
Exhausted lol
Best game of the year so far, no matter what.
Yeah, this one is fun!
I believe the kings will win!
I’ll say it again, put in Carter for some fresh legs for 2 mins.. give DRR or Monk a break.
or Lyles
Ddr with 9 straight in 2ot lol
Keep Herro locked down 5 more mins
I love Deebo, but Jesus, dude just has a habit of putting a tiny sliver of his toe on the three point line
It’s a Sacramento tradition
I LOVE DEEBO, BUT NOTHING
Kayte insists on saying “fur-miliar” 5x per game. In case you hadn’t ever noticed it, you’re welcome.
I say DDR for the win. Who says no? Lol
Amazing.
DeMar deserves this game. Get it, my man!
Light the Beam!!!
LTB!
WHat the actual f did we just watch???
LTB
Light that fucking beam!
That was fucking amazing!!!!! GO KINGS!!!! LIGHT THAT BEAM!!
That was fucking great! LTFB!
No. Quit. No. Surrender. Kings.
Good Lord What a Win.
ALL BALLS!
All Elephant Balls. Ha.
Blue whale balls. (Do blue whales have balls?)
Sperm Whales do, is what I learnt in biology.
Another game where they outplayed their opponent from the 3P line. 34.2%-26.2%
Down 17 with 18 minutes to go and DDR scores 20 in the later part of the game and the Kings sweep the Heat this year.
Domas plays his best defensive and rebounding game of the year for him.
Good Job Doug.
DDR closed it out, but the comeback was all Keon
Don’t disagree Henry, It’s really a whole team victory with Keon playing a big role, as did Sabonis, DDR, Keegan and Monk.
Love Keegan locking down Herro both OT. Woo
That come from behind block was a thing of beauty.
He absolutely did Termo, absolutely.
My apologies ….Terzo
Last night was the most satisfying but tonight was the most exhilarating. Mad at myself for selling my tix for tonight but thrilled with this win. Down 17 with a little over 8 to go. What grit. Keon really came of age this game and DDR just did his shit when it mattered most.
So are we backing off on bitching about DeMar for a while now?
It’s still not a great fit, but damn, he brought it tonight. I love that dude and I’m rooting for him no matter what.
I wonder if Doug will switch Fox to 2 guard after this?
