It’s finally NBA Draft Day, where every team hopes they can land their next star for the future. The Sacramento Kings currently have the 7th, 34th and 45th picks, but only the first round will be held today. Today’s first round starts at 5:00 PM Pacific time and will be broadcast on both ESPN and ABC live from the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn.
Use this thread to discuss picks, trades and anything else throughout the day. We’ll be sure to put up dedicated threads for any picks or trades the Kings make throughout the night. Happy draft day Kings fans!

Two number twos would get a good player from the Thunder.
The Kings already have two number 2s: Vivek Ranadive and Matina Kolokotronis
SELL THE TEAM
Flemings in all purple.
The 20 second mark! I’m sold. Either trade back or get another pick and select Allen Graves! That look get my vote!
Flemings is more red than purple
Is it a blue dress or a gold dress?
Mikel Brown Jr looks like he’s dressed up in Clippers colors
Acuff doesn’t look like a dude you want to F with. I like the swag.
Heard a rumor that they waived and stretched DeRozan. As I understand, only $10M was guaranteed. Not sure why they need to stretch rather than just keeping it on the books for this dead year.
I can only guess they are trying to make room for a win now move.
Yep, the stretch part of the deal is interesting. Does Perry want to do something now with the freed up cap space?
It’s probably to get below the tax. Stretching his deal saves between 6-7M this year.
So it’s because of Vivek.
We wouldn’t have any cap space. Just room under the luxury tax
I think they would get use of the Full MLE come free agency if they get below the tax line by the turn of the NBA calendar year.
It’s clearly to get below the apron. The kings have no cap space and this is rebuild time.
Except that Vivek doesn’t have the patience for a true rebuild.
If this opens up the MLE, guarantee that Perry will bring in someone to keep a young player on the bench while they flail at the 10th seed again.
Fortunately he has no choice. He screwed the roster up so bad the only sensible move is rebuilding.
I can’t remember the last time I used “sensible” and “Kings” in the same sentence.
Really wish they’d prioritize taking the Cap lumps this season and letting all those salaries just come off the books at the end of the season.
Yep 100%. Eat all of your medicine this year. Do not postpone into the future (ie taking on Ja) unless you are getting serious draft capital in return.
I don’t think adding $3.3M for two years to save over $22M this year is going to be an issue. I doubt they’ll be this close to the tax again in 27 or 28.
They could’ve just waived and eaten $10M and it would be off the books next year. So they are saving 6.7M this year.
Are they even saving that if it’s going to be stretched over 3 years?
Yeah but they have significant money coming off the books after next season and are unlikely to be pushing to compete in 28. Maybe the $3.3M will affect moves in coming years, but I believe it could be more impactful this year by limiting the need to give up future assets to fill out a roster under the tax.
MIA is obviously in win now mode. They desperately need shooting and playmaking on the perimeter.
Heat: Lavine
Kangz: Wiggins (exp), Jovic
Kind of like it for both teams. The Heat get their playmaker for a year to see how the fit is between their new big 3. The Kings get another expiring contract and take a flyer on Jovic.
In a heartbeat, but the Heat say no.
Alrighty. Let’s access that old posterior and make some guesses:
7 – Kingston Flemings (Acuff and Wagler go 5-6 or 6-5).
34 – Baba Miller
45 – Cash Considerations (though I would prefer Jaden Bradley)
Also, I will be in a meeting tonight, so please go batshit nutso crazy on my behalf. Thank you.
Oh, and one more thing:

I think it’s going to be Acuff if he’s there at 7, but Flemings if he gets taken before.
Pretty much the same here.
Flemings at #7 as Acuff and Wagler will be gone.
Kings trade #34 and #47 for the Cavs #27 and pick Sergio de Larrea
I like Brasile at #45.
Flemings
Conwell
Brazile
That’s my prediction
I’m guessing that it’ll be Acuff at #7.
Sending prayers to the basketball gods….please don’t be a bust…please don’t be a bust….please don’t be a bust…
I think Adam Silver is a vampire. I mean…just look at him.
Reptilian.
So far nothing unexpected.
Caleb Wilson will be the best player from this draft 3 years from now.
The draft starts now…
I need some action as this is dragging. Bring on the fireworks!
There goes the first one…
I’m finally sold on Acuff, and I’ve come around to believing a player that smart offensively will learn to improve defensively.
So, of course, the Kings won’t get him.
Flemings it is?
I guess the talent in this draft is exceptional when a smaller Anunoby, an Iguodala prototype like Burries goes down the line.
He has bad lateral movement which is something you have or don’t. He will never be a good defender just hope and pray he gets to Brunson or Steph level defense. I personally want Fleming though.
Please Brooklyn take acuff!!!
I love the draft! So cool seeing these kids realizing their dreams and like Charlie Brown on Halloween, one kid gets picked by The Kings.
Looks like it’s going to be Acuff.
Unless of course, the Kings Kangz,
Oh my gosh…
Damn man I was hoping Brooklyn would take Acuff.
Well he will be fun, but we will rue the day we didn’t take flemmings.
We shall see. I would of been more comfortable with Flemings as having more of a well-rounded game and being the better defensive player. At least Perry and Vivek got what they wanted.
That’s always worked out well..
Here we go!
Whose career is going to be destroyed in Sacramento – Acuff or Flemings?
It’s looking like Acuff. Vivek was going to pick him at #5 or earlier anyway (“Shoots like Curry. 1-2-3 Darius rocks!)”, so I guess dropping picks didn’t hurt as much as it otherwise would?
I think Brown Jr going first says something. Nets worked both of them out. Brown Jr. cancelled his workout with Sac.
Most mocks didn’t have Brown Jr going above #7. Brown being a riser and Acuff being a faller. Both can be true.
I saw recent mocks that had Brown Jr. at #6. It sounded like the Nets’ feelings about Brown Jr. became well-known about a week before the draft.
Acuff…sigh.
Sorry kid.
Pretty much guarantees Flemings will end up being the best PG in the draft.
Does this make up for the Kings passing on Damian Lillard and choosing Thomas Robinson?
LOL, I hate you.
In retro its been defined as TRob over Dame but at the time it was really the Kings had no idea what direction they were going, what they were going to do then TRob fell. They liked Dame but this was org not planning anything other than owners moving and everyone else wondering if they should jump ship now or wait around.
That interview was all kinds of awkward. Anyone want to read anything into that?
Bingo. Even though they all had to know it was coming.
I just think what Christie preaches with defense and talking about a core on defense with Perry reiterating that with his words ring hollow when drafting acuff over flemmings.
I think it was Acuff because Perry had a connection to him.
That’s it. That was the scouting. That was the reason.
This organization…
The Kings now have an interesting set of players in their franchise’s history. Darius is the only SEC player to lead that league in assists and scoring in the same year. He reflects an earlier franchise player in Nate Archibald who is the only player in the history of the NBA to lead the league in assists and scoring in the same year.
its a long way to a Nate Archibald career, but they are surprisingly similar players in some regards.
LVSL tickets on order. Excited to see who the Kings can draft in the 2d Round, the big forward from UT would be really good.
I guess cool, fun fact the kings were below .500 in their time with nate archibald.
Another cool fact is Nate was a Top 50 all time NBA player.
Yaaay! Another all-offense , no defense guard to add to the long historical list of one-dimensional guards for the Kangz franchise.
I have absolutely zero faith that that Perry can and will build a roster that will minimize or hide Acuff’s lack of defense. Vivek gets his way once again.
I love DAL’ pick. Another team on the up in the West.
The Kings were among the worst in the NBA in 3 point shooting. All their coaches talk about shooting more 3’a. Darius is a step toward correcting that weakness in a league that is a 3 point shooting league.
I saw Kingston play half a dozen times at UH. He is a leader unlike any freshman I have seen. There are many good ones.
Happy for both players. Would have been happy with Darius or Kingston. Be fun to watch them compete at the Summer League.
The first shocker of the night goes to Dallas selecting Morez Johnson Jr.
They drafted an offensive weapon and hope it works out. Now I hope they can get back into the 1st round
So that’s why Darius was all smug in that NBA video. He already knew he was going to the Kangz.
Welcome to basketball hell, Darius!
Yaxel to the Warriors is a good pick for them. Just what they need and ready to contribute now.
OKC has Mara fall in their lap and just like that they have their potential Wemby problem solver.
Would like to see if they can get back in to the 1st round and get Dailyn Swain.
I was with you. Swain is off the board unfortunately. I really like his all around game and physicality. He is a player the Kings could have really used.
I have feeling OKC wanted to move up to get Mara, but he ends up falling to him
Ok, I want some trades. Give me action. Entertain me!
Screw fit…get back into the first round and go get Anderson (personal preference) or Philon.
So OKC just gave up 2 picks to move up one slot to draft a senior PG?
Basically traded Wiggins to move up one.
I find it interesting because a PG is probably the one thing they need the least.
Acuff will be fun to root for and I’m confident he’ll contribute right away. If it means we stop talking about Morant, I’m good with it.
I would’ve gone Burries.
Philon dropping so far was a surprise. I don’t think the gap between Acuff and Philon was that big TBH.
I would’ve been happier if we got Philon and another 1st (Carr) if that was a possibility.
Kings trading back into the 1st – #29 to the Kings for #34 & future 2nd…Kings eyeing Caraban
Shooting!!! Yeah!!!!
Rim protection! Boooo!
Kings pick up another offensive player that’s a defensive liability. Karaban would’ve been a nice second round pick. To trade a future second to get him while Koa Peat was still on the board is head scratching.
Philon and Peat are steals.
Not what I would’ve
ofdone.I wonder if they see Caraban as something of player/coach on the floor to help the other developing players with spacing and high IQ plays. We’ll see how his lack of athleticism effects his defense.
This organization is an absolute, pathetic, fu*king joke.
