Happy NBA Draft Day! Please use this open thread to discuss Day 1 of the 2025 NBA Draft which features the first 30 picks. As a reminder, starting last year the NBA Draft is now two days, with the second round happening tomorrow.
Tonight’s Draft coverage starts at 5 pm Pacific on ESPN and ABC. The Kings don’t currently have a pick in the first round, but that doesn’t mean that can’t change with the Kings reportedly being interested in getting back into the first round. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any trades or picks that the Kings might make tonight along with reaction.
My thoughts exactly!
Do something!
No! Not that!
No, no, yes, NOOO!
As usual, I take a leave to watch the draft live, hopefully, we can get some useful player in first round…
League sources indicate that the Kings are interested in drafting generational PG Cash Considerations.
Oriakhi?
Future 2nd round pick will round out the backcourt, while TPE will be a force in the front court.
Playertobe Namedlater as a super sixth man.
But can he play SF?
Sucks not having a pick, draft day is all Kangz fans usually have to look forward to, although the last five years or so when draft day rolls around the first thought that always pops into my head is passing on Luka.
I’ll never get over it.
Same here….the moment I watch live, and the frustration at that moment, will be unforgettable for me…
It is so frustrating having a bad team AND no draft pick. Will this front office (ermm owner?) ever learn to stop trading away picks for middling, often over paid players? This team isn’t sniffing the playoffs in the next five years, and thats being generous.
This doesn’t give me much confidence.

Its either Westbrook or Schroeder incoming.
rather let Fultz play another full season as PG
I now fear it’s Lonzo Ball.
You spelled Lamelo wrong. DDR + Monk for Lamelo, heh
From the Kings telling agents that they were confident about having a 1st round pick this year, to not forcing anything, and now looking at veterans. Great start to the offseason. Run it back!!!!!!!
Everyone: “Two young teams with cap space and value contracts just made the Finals.
Vivek: “Let’s get older with bloated contracts.”
“While everyone is going younger and investing in young talent, lets get overpriced veterans who don’t fit with our team. Going against the grain! Kings 3.5, baby!”
– vladivektina
Title of his next Forbes column.
I can’t wait to say to myself “that’s a great pick” for every team except the ones I don’t like.
This site not loading comments when the thread is open on my is really annoying. It just started this past season, so I don’t know what changed. Makes it hard to follow threads when the comments are high in numbers.
You are a Kings fan. Nothing is supposed to phaze you
The Kings select… Tason Jhompson! Chaos ensues.
Hake fustle!
Draft starts with pick 3. I like Edgecomb but I know nothing about the international players.
Edgecomb and Maxey would be a fun backcourt. Add in MaCain from last draft, and they have a solid backcourt trio.
Agree
Why is Stephen A. yelling? Dude needs to stop.
I really can not stand the dude. Bob Myers is just sitting there shaking his head while Stephen is yelling. Just imagine having to work with the dude.
That’s his thing. Starts low then builds to a fever pitch. Mark Levin is the same. Both are yellers. Not pleasant to listen to.
He adds no substance to the broadcast. ESPN fires Zach Lowe and keeps this clown around. Terrible choice.
ESPN’s draft coverage has been unwatchable for a long time. It’s as if they intentionally want to put out a bad product.
It’s ok, Dennis Schröder plays PG.
IMO Charlotte just made a terrible mistake. Ace Bailey they passed for Knuppel who can’t guard anyone
Disagree, the main knock on Ace is his lack of defensive awareness. He gives me Marvin Bagley of wings vibes. Kon is actually a pretty solid defender.
Maybe but document this exchange. Knuppel will be very, limited in the NBA.. Ace Bailey will have a much better NBA career.
You could be right, but I understand Charlotte’s hesitancy on Bailey. The guy wouldn’t workout or interview with anyone. #RedFlags
They could have gone with Tre Johnson. I just don’t like Knupple in the NBA. His feel look slow to me which is why he can’t guard anyone. Can Kon create a shot against NBA defenders
Hornets worked out both Kon and Tre, so who knows?
You ever watch Corey Kispert try to defend. Knuppel could be worse
This is just flat out untrue. Kon was a better defender this year than Ace by a WIDE margin. Go read Sam Vecenie as he’s talked about Kon’s defense at length on multiple platforms. He’s a much better defender than people realize. He’s strong and understands positioning better than almost anyone in this draft.
I watch I know. His feet and lateral movement are slow and it will be problematic in the NBA. He’s worse than what people are saying. Not being mentioned too much. I will also add, he will have trouble creating a shot in the NBA. He’ll be effective as a spot of shooter but he’ll be exposed on defense and limited offensively.
Ace has the tools to be a good defender just hasn’t emphasized it in his game. Knuppel doesn’t have the tools. He’s okay off ball and gets into, good helping position but on ball he is atrocious.
I have watched plenty of Kon and I disagree. He’s not ultra athletic but I think he might have the best feel of any player in the draft. Just feels like a connector who will make his team better. I think Ace has the tools to be excellent if his head is screwed on straight so we’ll see. Also, all of the really smart draft people I like to read/listen to think Kon is going to be a very good player if not necessarily a star. I’ll take that with the 4th pick.
We shall see and won’t know for 3 years. I actually even like Clifford better who we just got. Now this guy can play defense. Good move for the Kings imo
Those same smart people thought Kispert would be great. Watch money ball. A lot of these guys hanging around who are caught up in paradigms and we listen to them just because they’ve been around for awhile. They miss a lot and don’t often think out of the box. After watching the playoffs you will see how important it is to have guys that can defend multiple players. Clifford to me fits that criteria, Not Knuppel
You’re looking at Cory Kispert part 2. There’s guys still remaining like Asa Newell who I’d rather have.
Probably correct regarding Kon on Defense but the positive side is as long as Ball is playing he will never be the worst on Hornets .
Kon may end up being fantastic. But it is not a coincidence Sac and Charlotte are two of the consistently worst franchises. Bailey falls to them and they pick Kon. I would suspect he is a bust simply off past draft histories.
The Indiana Pacers are trading a 2030 Sacramento Kings second-round pick and cash to the San Antonio Spurs for the No. 38 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, league sources told @hoopshype. So exciting! Watch the Spurs target whoever the Kings want to pick.
Utah just got a great break. Bailey fell to there laps.
All the best talent somehow always ends up in the West.
In this case I think Ace Bailey is a big upgrade over Knupple.
After this draft is over. The Kings might have the worst roster/future combination in the NBA. I like the Washington pick here.
Is there any franchise is worst overall shape as the Kings. I used to think Washington but they just got a nice pick.
JFC, Stephen A is so damn annoying. What the hell does ESPN see in him? Does he have an actual fanbase or following?
Bob Meyers might consider taking a Basketball Ops position if he has to keep working with Stephen A.
I’m expecting Bob walking off at any moment. You can tell he’s not liking this. The dude wants to talk real basketball, but Stephan just keeps yelling nonsense.
This is a deep draft. Disappointing we don’t have a pick.
I like Egor Demin. The Nets with 5 picks can build a nice future.
Oh nice! I just turned off ABC to watch the ESPN feed. No Stephan A. Smith!!

Jay Bilas does a nice job. Not a big fan of Perkins but tolerable
That’s two centers just added by the Suns.

Maybe they are keeping Beal. Green, Beal, Brooks, Booker, now Williams and Malubach. Not bad
And they have Nick Richards, not fully guaranteed next season, that they traded for last season. Phoenix is weird
Yeah interesting and I like what they are doing
Mark Williams is always hurt. I think that trade was a bad one for Phoenix.
They didn’t give up much. They figured Willam’s is better than anyone at 29. That future pick they gave up might bite them in the ass later. Still like their direction. Where are the Kings.
They also drafted Oso Ighodoro last year. Desperate to grt a Center, I suppose.
Yeah putting a lot of emphasis there.
This is a deep draft. Love Derik Queen. Nice job Atlanta.
Phoenix ends up with a nice haul from Durant. Like what they are doing. Need to dump Neal now. Still have 5:second rounders. Green, Brooks, Maluach. Like it.
Love Cedric Coward. The sleeper in the draft IMO. Nice job Portland.
Ouch going to Memphis now. Good job Memphis
Bane replacement
Good comparison. Coward is a dog. We’ll see if it translates to the NBA.
So far we’re getting Scotty McPerry.
If he starts wearing puffy vests, we are in trouble.
Do non-puffy vests count?
He’s on his way!
Now Essenque looks interesting.
Derik Queen. Now we know the name of the player the Kings could have had. Watch him become an All-Star in 5 years.
I like him. It’s a deep draft. Many good players left
Carter Bryant another good one. San Antonio making many good moves. Watch out.
I feel like no one is willing to deal with the Kings because they know when Perry is on the phone with them, Vivek is listening in.
That should make them deal more. There’s no greater suckers than the Kings front office.
Nick Rocks!
Blazers Edge looks like they’re having a Jason Thompson thread now…
Hansen Yang, Clingan, and Ayton. That’s a lot of Centers.
Hansen Yang’s a fantastic name
Wouldn’t mind the Kings jumping in here and getting Walter Clayton.
So much for that. Like what the Wizards are doing.
I hope the Kings go for upside if they happen to trade up…I’m really hoping for Fleming.
I like Jakucionis. I will predict a better NBA player than Knuppel.
There is going to be several good prospects slipping into the second round.
Like Nique Clifford, Asa Newell, Maxine Raynaud, and Danny Wolf.
Also like Ryan Kalkbrenner. Maybe the Kings can get one of these guys.
Kings trading for OKCs pick
Love the move. I’ve been mentioning Clifford. That’s a nice move iMO
I like him, but I really wanted Fleming. Looks like Keegan is staying at PF as Clifford is a 2-3 wing. He’s really a scoring guard/wing.
He plays bigger than he is though and is no slouch on D. If he slots in between Ellis and Murray at SF…I can get with that.
Another SG, just what the Kings need. Unless they move on from Carter, Monk, Ellis, or LaVine, that’s a lot of non-PGs.
Once LaVine is gone though, he might be our lite-version of Jalen Williams.
I wouldn’t characterize him like that. If he wasn’t older he would have gone much sooner. Think he steps in and gets minutes right away.
Yeah, I’m sure Clifford is solid but I really wanted Keegan to slide back to the 3. Oh well
Geez 3 or 4 or whatever you want to call him, it doesn’t matter. If you ever worry about that, look at the Warriors history. They don’t worry about that and have done just fine.
I like the move to get Clifford. Let’s just hope they didn’t give up the farm.
Me too, its his best position right now. Although I believe that once Murray fills out, he’ll be a very good PF.
Yeah Nique Clifford to the Kings. I like it.
We did it, and get into first round and picked someone
but what did the Kings give up?
Hopefully just some second rounders.
Looks like the 27 Spurs first 1-16 protected. So, not horrible.
Immediately turns into second rounders if it doesn’t convey I guess.
That’s not bad value.
That’s it? Seems pretty lite for Presti.
2027 from Spurs 1-16 protected (goes to seconds if it doesn’t convey).
Please anyone correct me if that’s incorrect.
Only if they had drafted wing players when Fox wanted them to….
Now what did the Kangz trade to get this kid?
2027 Spurs pick (1-16 protection, 2 seconds of it doesn’t convey)
Good late round pick. Does a little of everything. Not a huge have changer. What did we give up?
Sucks so bad to see everyone else get so many good players while Kings spin in the washing machine.
They just made a surprisingly nice move.
Like what the Nets are doing, Danny Wolf this late. Good for them.
Just saw the trade details for Clifford ????
Kings traded their protected 2027 SA first round pick (protected 1-16).
It will immediately roll into two seconds in 2027 if it doesn’t convey.
I think the chances of the Kings drafting 1-16 in 2027 are pretty good.
It’s San Antonio’s pick
Pretty win-win.
OKC’s warchest is stuffed to bursting, so this gets them a pretty equivalent pick later.
Kings get young talent now, and hold onto the unprotected upside to the pick should San Antonio suddenly implode.
Thanks, I was a little confused about the protections, I couldn’t remember whether the pick had been originally protected when it came to us. But based on your comment, if San Antonio picks 1-16 in 2027, that pick comes to us, and OKC gets the Kings’ and Hornets’ second rounders in 2027. If SAS picks 17-30, the pick goes to OKC, and Sac keeps its own 2nd rounder and Charlotte’s. That was how I understood it, but glad that someone else seems to understand it the same.
Are we all in agreement that this team has to trade a guard or two before the season starts? Simple draft move and I’m not mad at it but it didn’t really fill any holes this team has.
The problem is who’s going to pick up those contracts. Not that easy to move.
