With 39.3% of the vote, Dyson Daniels is next up off the board. He joins Bennedict Mathurin, Keegan Murray, Jaden Ivey, Shaedon Sharpe, Paolo Banchero, Chet Holmgren and Jabari Smith Jr.
When a choice comes up, pick who you’d want the Kings to pick given all the players remaining. Note: THIS IS NOT A MOCK DRAFT. This is a draft board, a ranked list of prospects you’d like to see the Kings pick. In other words, if we were the Kings front office, when our pick came up, we’d take the top name left on our board. So pick your choice, not who you think Monte McNair or anyone else would choose in a slot.
Explain your choice in the comments, and lobby for who should be added to the next pick’s choices.
This poll ends at 5 AM tomorrow. The next one will begin shortly thereafter. We will go roughly 20 picks deep.
Seems we’re at the point where there’s a lot more indecision so I added an “other” option where you can write in your vote.
Me personally, I’m going with A.J. Griffin here. He’s the best shooter in the draft, one of the youngest players in the draft, plays a very important position in today’s NBA, and despite his defensive issues, I can’t pass all that up at 9.
Hey Akis! Just wanted to ask, will the Nostradumbass winner of 2022 be announced? Just was wondering since the Google Doc with the scores wasn’t being updated mid-season. 🙂
They did a re-count and are awaiting “results”.
I’m going to get out front of this and call it rigged, since there’s no way I won.
How many dead participants filled in predictions? 😫
There were probably a lot of Hanging Chets this year.
Solid, very nice!
Do not encourage him.
Are you still banned from twitter?
My timeline is missing blurry food pics these days.
That account is. My other one is not….yet. And you aren’t worthy of my amazing tater pics. Stop asking.
Too bad you can’t be banned from TKH for having NO economy with words!
Cell phone data shows that there were a lot of ballot mules in the vicinity of the voting machines.
We are certainly on the dumbest timeline.
I think they used the Dominion system for the Nostradumbass this year because it was so effective a few years.
Hi Klam, yes it will be. I’m gonna do one final prediction for the season for Draft Day itself with winner announced after that.
You should do that separately. Why tie a fresh idea to a dead horse?
Same, I picked the same
I am voting for Marcus Bagley here.
Sochan
Then, of the choices, Davis – Griffin – Dieng – Eason
But I’d write in a number of guys before Dieng and Eason. Like Jalen Williams, Jovic, Branham, etc.
Sochan. Defense is sorely needed on this team, and he has some upside with cutting and playmaking.
I took Eason mainly for his defense and hustle, but gave him the advantage over Dieng and Sochan because his shooting is already pretty respectable, and we need to spread defenses to help Fox & Sabonis be their best.
Same reasoning I’m using to pick Eason.
I’m going Jovic here. I know it’s early, but I see huge upside. 3-4 with high bbiq and a developing shot.
I don’t think it’s hugely early for Jovic. I prefer Sochan & Davis, but I have Jovic in the same tier as them.
Sochan. But I get why people don’t like him. The vibe I get off Sochan is something like this. The floor is there as a versatile F who defends especially very well in switches. He’s an excellent rebounder, especially defensively.
So right there that’s what you get day 1 in all likelihood. The ceiling comes from the offensive side, though. There’s a lot of belief he can handle the ball, and could be a very good playmaker. Much of the question marks really are his shot, and that’s quite often the case with prospects.
Sochan’s the perfect mix of development, skill, and raw ability the Kings need long term while not necessarily being ready to start day 1. He’s also 19, so the development curve could easily be in the Kings favor. He’s European, more or less, but at the same time is half American (his father). His mother is Polish and he was born there but was raised in England from the time he was 2. He went to HS in Indiana.
Guys like this could flop, but so could a lot of other guys, too. I suppose what I like most is the profile and archetype of Sochan (defensive, excellent rebounder on top of that) with the offensive profile of a facilitator/slasher/cutter/athletic at the rim on the other end.
Somebody will roll the dice on Jeremy Sochan in the top 10, I guarantee it. It’s just a question of who, and, as I’ve said several times already, I don’t think any rookie is coming in and adding 5 wins to your W column next year. You might as well grab a guy with a lot of potential with some excellent baseline ability for a longer term outlook.
I worry about his shooting, which is a real priority as things now stand, but I do agree with all of what you’ve said.
While it’s a priority for the roster being competitive next season, it’s not much of a concern for me with Sochan given his value as a prospect longer term. I’m thinking longer term with this pick, not next season.
Trades and Free Agency will be determining what the Kings do next season.
If McNair doesn’t get an extension, and feels like he needs to get the player most likely to improve the team immediately, then it could be he goes after someone ready to help, but who may not have a lot of upside during his career.
I wouldn’t be shocked if McNair still selected someone who still has a lot of potential to get better, even if he’s not extended. Even if he’s let go, it’s not a bad thing for your legacy to have found that needle in a haystack, and taken a player who eventually becomes great.
Keegan Murray may be a perfect compromise choice. He can contribute immediately, and I think he’s got real potential to smash through his predicted ceiling.
This is my thought, as well. Really, one of the advantages of Sochan is that you can pair him with a variety of existing NBA players that you might acquire (Collins, Kuzma, Grant) and while I have varying feelings about all those guys, I like being able to pair veterans with young players as much as possible. If you make a win now move, it should be with an existing NBA player.
The 4th pick (or what you get in trade for it) should be about longer term development and value. With Sochan, I can see a number of factors that could lead to success in th shorter and longer term. It’s tougher to see with guys like Ivey, or even Sharpe or Mathurin to some degree. The versatility of a player matters, and that’s probably Sochan’s biggest appeal to me.
Can’t argue this one way or the other, really. It could easily be true, or not. No matter how we suss this out or argue it, the reality to me is this Sims: The draft was not going to be the saving grace for the Sacramento Kings; The draft is simply a mechanism to add a valuable young player hopefully.
It’s complicated, hell, when isn’t it complicated? But it’ll be interesting to see how the Kings play this, and not just who they take either. It might be quite revealing from a philosophy standpoint.
Re Keegan Murray:
Unlike Daniels, I don’t buy Sochan’s shot long-term. You’ll have to be satisfied with the cutting/playmaking on the offensive end, and the defense and rebounding on the other. In the right system he could be a starter, but most likely he’ll be a solid contributor in an 8 man rotation.
If you wanted upside with a top 10 pick, I’d recommend Dieng who has imo a top 5 ceiling in this draft.
One point in Dieng’s favor, for me, is that he’s been playing against competition closer to the NBA.
I’m a big fan of international and G League prospects for this reason
Excellent summation of Sochan as a prospect. This team needs players that can contribute. Missing on prospects has really hurt the Kings over the past decade (Jimmer, T-Rob, Ben, Sauce, Papa, Willie Trill, and the list goes on…)
Jeremy is this draft version of OG Anonouby . Better in the NBA than college .
I could totally see him being picked by the Spurs at #9 and developed into an all-defensive team player by his 4th season. He’s a younger and bigger version of Matisse Thybulle.
Hollinger mentioned Thybulle as Sochan reminding him a little of, as well. There’s shades of Barnes and Thybulle in Sochan and that’s what I’m after.
Sounds like Scottie Barnes scouting report last year
Went Sochan. We need defense. Already have plenty of guys sho can score the ball. Not enough stopping the other team from doing what they want to us. Want the Baylor Bears of Davion and Sochan wrecking havoc on the perimeter defensively.
I picked Sochan for his defense & playmaking.
I went with Eason here. I wouldn’t be mad if sochan or any number of other guys get picked here actually.
Griffin, Davis, Eason are my next three.
It is Davis, Griffin and Sochen for me . Likely a late first, like a Jimmy Butler, will pass all these guys . It is a lottery in every way .
Have to go with AJ Griffin for shooting and potential here. He’d likely have a much larger offensive role at any program other than Duke.
I like both Dyson Davis and Johnny Daniels here.
The pool of prospects for the Kings’ 2nd round pick just increased today with some decisions to remain in the draft, including sleepers Dalen Terry and David Roddy.
Voted Tari Eason. Lobbying for Orlando Robinson and Hyunjung Lee in the 2nd rd
I stopped at 4 once Sharpe was picked. to me their is the consensus top three and a second three. The rest are a blur. I just have not seen any of them play nor have I scoured the internet for video. I hope the Kings pick Sharpe, or trade back, get a starter level forward and take Murray.
Went Sochan!
I also like Davis and Eason here, but Sochan is my fav of the three. Just two months ago, I was holding out hope that Eason would be a sleeper 2nd round pick and now here he is likely to go in the lottery.
I did a write in:
Ochai Agdabi, because he is okay.
18.8 points on 48% shooting (41% from three on 6.5 attempts and 74% from the foul line), 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.6 blocks
Kings Comparison: taller Tony Delk
I am shying away from AJ Griffin and no one stands out to me. Agdabi can shoot and defend. Those are needed qualities for this team.
My other wonder is Nikola Jovic. Seems as good a gamble as those left on the board. I might pick him tomorrow.
Agbaji’s a 3&D wing. I don’t get the comparison w/Delk. What I mainly remember about Delk is his shocking 50 point game against the Kings (it was 1 of the most memorable games I saw live).
oh,ok.
sigh. First, apologies. This response came out as rude and curt and that was not my intention. I was responding to your comment and I had to perform another task and in my haste to come back and finish my note, I hit POST instead. My bad. You deserve better – I enjoy your comments and opinions.
The second half of my comment is to further inquire – who, of any previous (or current) Kings do you prefer as a comparison for Agdabi? I thought of Jim Jackson and even Eddie Johnson, but I’ve used those comps already for this draft on others.
Delk (and yes, I recall that amazing performance as well -he had just left the Kings if I recall and that was one whopper of a revenge game) and BJax both were SGs – but really Wings in a PG body. Heck, BJax seemed more a 6’1″ Power Forward at times. Agdabi has wonderful 3FG% and has an well developed NBA appearing body. As a Kansas alumnus, I worry that he is the Love Child of Thomas Robinson and Ben McLemore. But I think he is a more worthwhile pick at this stage of the Sacramento draft than the Freshman/Soph that are on the list.
Hopefully picking a 19-20 year old in this range. Give me hustle and athleticism – whomever best personifies that. Wrote in Jalen Duren.
