The Kings are in Los Angeles tonight for their fourth and final preseason game before the NBA season officially kicks off next week. The Kings have yet to win a preseason game (or even look particularly good for that matter) but again, this is just preseason so who really cares.

We’ll see if newly signed Russell Westbrook gets any action in this trip to his hometown, but the Kings will be without Keegan Murray and Domantas Sabonis for this one. Dario Saric got the start for Murray in the last preseason game, and Drew Eubanks will likely get the call in Sabonis’ absence. I’ll be very interested to see how the Kings handle the backup big minutes without Sabonis, as they may have to lean on rookies Maxime Raynaud and Dylan Cardwell if Sabonis misses any length of time. The Lakers, for what it worth, are apparently treating this game as a “dress rehearsal” according to JJ Redick, and I kind of expect the Kings to do the same, so maybe this one will be a bit more competitive than a normal preseason game.

So since the Kings now have two recent starting PGs of the Lakers, my numbers indicates Luka will be King by 2027. Anyone care to check my math on that?
Add in Monk, and they have the trifecta of former Laker guards!
I had forgotten the Monk variable. After careful recalculation, including multiplying to the power of Luke Walton, my numbers now indicate the Kangz will acquire Gabe Vincent at this year’s deadline and not Luka in 2027. Sorry all.

This is the best the team has looked this preseason. No demar, sabonis, monk, keegan….they are playing with pace offensively and getting good 3pt shots.
I really cannot believe the Kings are blacking out a nationally televised game so they can show the Lakers feed on their website, with Kings radio, and the only ads are what you would see in the home arena for Golden One events. Poverty franchise.

As the great Jerry Reynolds said, Keon should be gettin 30 minutes a night. The dude just continually defends and shoots at a hight level. This isn’t rocket surgery Kings!

1st half analysis (it’s all I am going to watch):
Dennis: jumper isn’t good, rest of his game seemed fine.
Carter: does he have a slower first step than Kyle Anderson? What does he do on the court that is even average?
Nique: solid all around game, give him more minutes.
Max: needs more development.
Saric and Eubanks: not the answer at backup PF/C spots.
Isaac: looked okay, still needs to get a better feel for the game.
Ellis: PLAY HIM MORE!
Lavine: solid
Give Clifford more minutes? He played 33 last night. How much more do you wan? Agree play Ellis more. IMO he should replace DDR in the starting lineup if not trade him for Tari Eason. LaVine was solid and did play fairly well on defense. Yes you can train an old dog new tricks. Raynaud is coming along just fine. Doug played him in the fourth which says a lot. IMO we should trade Carter for Peyton Watson as soon as possible. Trade DDR as soon as possible. I saw a trade where we could get Derrick Smith Jr. and Bogi for him. Smith not Bogi is chip we want and Bogi comes with the trade.IMO he could replace McDermot.
When the other guards are healthy, Clifford will have his minutes reduced, same with Ellis.

Well, that was the most cohesive the guys have looked this preseason. Looks like the Lakers are going to be another Pacific Division team that finds defense optional.
I’m starting to feel pretty high on Clifford’s game. He fits the starting lineup much better than Demar does because he doesn’t have to take a lot of shots to be an impact. He played off Levine pretty well in the starting line up and I just feel like a bench of Demar and Monk would very tough to contend with. Lavine and Demar should be staggered. The Kings simply can’t support the lack of defense when both of them are on the floor together.
The rebuild can’t come soon enough.
Catch you all on the next nationally televised game (although I’m planning on going to the game in Portland coming up).
Listen, I think this franchise is an abomination and if there would be contraction in the NBA, I could see the arguments for getting rid of this mess.
But arranging a whole national No Kings Day is a bit rich, even for me.
