Sacramento is a resilient community. It is supportive. It is generous. We’ve banded together through economic collapses, relocation sagas, and now the COVID-19 crisis.
As the pandemic rages on, food banks are struggling to keep their shelves full. Many individuals have resorted to stockpiling, but some families can’t afford to stock their homes with groceries for days at a time, much less weeks.
So, we want to help.
The former Sactown Royalty crew has built The Kings Herald, offering independent coverage of the Sacramento Kings. We’re a site built by fans, for fans. But we’re also for the Sacramento community as a whole.
This is our home.
So, here’s what we’re doing.
First, we’re launching a donation campaign to raise funds for the Sacramento Food Bank. If you were planning on supporting The Kings Herald through Patreon in the month of April, we’re asking that you redirect those funds to folks in need of a helping hand during these trying times. A $1 donation can deliver up to FIVE meals for a disadvantaged family. If you were planning on throwing five bucks our way, that could provide 25 meals for a family suffering from hunger. If you would like to join us in this endeavor, please donate here. (Update as of 5/12/20: The GoFundMe page has concluded after raising $3,125 for the Sacramento Food Bank. Thank you all for your incredible support!)
In addition to our fundraising drive, we also want to support local businesses that may be struggling during these unprecedented times. We’ll be offering several local businesses the opportunity to advertise on Kings Herald for a month for FREE, no long-term commitments. Email us at [email protected] if you’re interested.
Finally, with the restaurant industry being one of the hardest hit over the last few weeks, we’ll be posting a list of local Sacramento restaurants that are still open for takeout or delivery, as well as publishing regular features on individual eateries that may stir your appetite. Hitting up a mom-and-pop spot could make a significant difference for both the owners and the employees of that establishment, so let’s support our local businesses in whatever way, whenever possible.
We’re in this together, Sacramento.
Please join us.
Let’s be safe.
Let’s be strong.
Let’s be kind.
