The Sacramento Kings announced that forward Trey Lyles will be out with a sprained knee, and that he’ll miss at least two weeks.

From the Kings:

Kings forward Trey Lyles injured his left knee in the second quarter versus the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, March 12. Imaging confirmed Lyles suffered an MCL sprain. Lyles will be listed as out and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

This is a big blow to the Kings bench, as Lyles has been one of the team’s more consistent bench performers. This will also stretch Sacramento’s already thin depth at the forward spot.

Sasha Vezenkov has missed the last five weeks with an ankle injury. He was originally expected to miss 4-6 weeks, so hopefully he’ll be back soon.

Without Vezenkov and Lyles, the Kings may need to adjust rotations to keep one of Harrison Barnes or Keegan Murray on the floor at all times. The other backup forward is Kessler Edwards, but he lacks the size to guard most power forwards.

Here’s hoping for a full and speedy recovery for Lyles.

We have a Ellis. Trade everyone else for cash considerations.

Opportunity knocks

Duarte, Edwards and hopefully Sasha should get more minutes.

Duarte’s scoring has been a welcome addition.

None of these others give Sac the small ball option. And though Domas is the Iron Ox, I hope his minutes don’t run him aground, particularly with an end of the season run and post season play that depends on his engine to carry this squad.. That he plays at the intensity he does and is not oft injured is amazing to me.

Duarte, Edwards, and Sasha play 40 plus minutes. Ellis backs up Sasha. Domas dominates the paint without any help for complete games. Don’t even need Fox.

4 vs 5

The dynasty is here.

Well that sucks. Need him right for the playoffs. I wonder if this could open a door for Sasha although I think he’s still injured which I guess was/is very serious. He hasn’t suited up for what feels like 2 months. Anyone remember how long ago Sasha went down?

I don’t expect Sasha to contribute much for the remainder of this season. He was supposed to be re-evaluated in 4-6 weeks, we are at 5 weeks now and haven’t heard much about his status.

That is a massive bummer. I hope you are wrong. I was still holding out hope that he could fly in like a super hero with 20 games left and become MVP Sasha helping get the kings into the playoffs and ultimately the finals. 🤷‍♂️

Bummer. In the short term I would expect to see a lot more Heurter and Keegan at F, Keon at 2 guard and Barnes as a small ball center. Could be good.

With Randle and Robinson still out, we should be able to survive without Lyles and Sasha tonight. Hopefully, Sasha can come back for the upcoming three-game road trip for at least a few minutes per game. That road trip is part of a stretch where we have five games in seven days, ending with the first of the pair of home games against the Mavs!
