The Sacramento Kings are waiving Deonte Burton and Chance Comanche according to a report from James Ham. Ham notes that both would join the Stockton Kings after clearing waivers.

These cuts aren’t surprising at all, as the Kings core was pretty well established well before training camp. The Kings used their extra roster spots to bring in guys with the intention of having them end up in Stockton. When the roster doesn’t have a lot of glaring holes and has a set rotation, this is a reasonable and smart way to use the extra training camp spots.

This move brings the roster to 18, including three players on Two-Way contracts. This is the first year teams are allowed to carry a third player on a Two-Way. The last remaining bit of intrigue is whether the Kings will keep Jaylen Nowell on the roster. The Kings do not need to cut any additional players, so Nowell could be on the opening day roster, or the Kings could waive him and enter the season with an open roster spot.

Expected move and a good one. Waiving them now gives them a better change to slip to Stockton.
As the opening for the season approaches, some teams will have tough roster cuts. An open spot helps absorb some future potential, like K. Edwards last year. The Mongoose will strike again.
I had some hope for Reggie Bullock, cut a couple of weeks ago but he signed with Houston of all places.
A good part of last seasons success can be attributed to the emphasis on Fox getting the ball, getting to the paint and on Sabonis as facilitator. Both of those functions are missing this pre-season so far. This has contributed to the awful showings so far.
and the shooting just is terrible.
Last year Kings went 4-0 in pre-season, started the real season 0-4. The reverse this year?
In the past, and this confession is meant to purge my soul, I did want a good showing but did not mind a loss- better draft position, I thought. That strategy was a failure.
Now every loss will be edge of the cliff painful.
Duarte looked acceptable. Sasha looked European. and JaVale’s play may upend the Lyles rotation.

They didn’t even give Comanche a…I don’t know…opportunity.

At least they had the decency to wait until after Indigenous Peoples’ Day to waive Comanche.
