The 2009-2012 era in Sacramento Kings basketball is undoubtedly the one that fans look most fondly upon, and as such the Kings are trying their best to recapture some of that magic. First was the signing of Omri Casspi, and now RealGM is reporting that the Kings are working out free agent guard Terrence Williams!

Williams, a former lottery pick who played 18 games with the Kings back in 2012, spent last year with the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the D-League.

Snark aside, I'm not sure exactly what the Kings are doing here. Williams is certainly talented, but it says a lot about a guy when he's not able to stick with a team for longer than a quarter of a season. The only team that Williams has played more than 24 games with in 5 years is the Nets, who were all too glad to get a future first round pick for him shortly into his 2nd year.

The Kings seem to be searching for talent wherever it may be, but it almost smacks of desperation rather than any cohesive plan. The likelihood that a Terrence Williams could transform into a serious contributor at this stage of his career is really low. More importantly playing a guy like Williams would be getting in the way of developing talent like Stauskas and Ben.

I'm not going to get too worked up about this because it's only a workout, but I'm not exactly encouraged that the Kings seem to be targeting retreads at this point of the offseason.
