The Sacramento Kings are sigining Juan-Toscano Anderson to a one-year contract according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Kings had been carrying an open roster spot, so no players needed to be waived as part of this signing. The move will give the Kings another wing option, and another veteran with playoff experience.
The Sacramento Kings are signing F Juan Toscano-Anderson to a one-year deal, sources tell ESPN. Toscano-Anderson — who’s had stops with the Warriors, Lakers and Jazz — has been playing with Mexico City of the G League.

Kings head coach Mike Brown had strong interest in bringing Toscano-Anderson, who he’s known from their Warriors days, to training camp, sources said. Solid veteran addition that can be a team-first Garrett Temple-type for the Kings’ locker room. https://t.co/STST1uhbuM

I just have to pause and laugh for a moment at that Spears tweet, because I remember when the Kings brought in Garrett Temple not as a veteran locker room guy, but rather as a starter.
As for what JTA brings to the table at this point in his career, we should probably keep our expectations low. He’s about to turn 31, and had underwhelming stints with the Los Angeles Lakers Utah Jazz last season. In 52 total games last season, he averaged 3.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.3 steal, and 0.2 blocks in 13.5 minutes per game. He shot 44.8% from the field, and 18.6% from 3. At one point JTA was a solid and pesky defender, but posted a defensive rating of 113.7 last year. Then again, the Kings are currently sporting a defensive rating of 115.0 for the season, so I beggars can’t be choosers.
This move is unlikely to make a huge impact, but hopefully it’s a net positive. Mike Brown is familiar with JTA, and coached JTA in his best NBA seasons. This is a low-cost, low-risk move with an open roster spot, and the Kings can easily cut bait later if it doesn’t work out. Hopefully it turns out to be a nice value move and the Kings keep him the remainder of the year.
Nooooooo! … stop trying to be the Warriors already!
Re-posting from the other thread:
He basically gives you what you brought Duarte in to do. Also the timing is interesting as tonight, being Dec. 14th, is the day trade restrictions expire to free agents signed this summer. Tomorrow is the unofficial beginning to trade season, so why fill the last roster spot tonight?
Maybe we’re consolidating some depth tomorrow?
JTA can’t be included in any trade, so if a Duarte trade is in the works, it may make sense.
I came back to post that I was not mad as my first post may have sounded. But if you wanted someone to come in and give effort and foul people; you have Duarte already! Spot on Adam!
Plus is this going to bring us a championship? Don’t understand it but I’ll wait and see. Monty and Brown know more in their little fingers than I do in my whole heart.
He does what you wanted Duarte to do, but Duarte hasn’t done it.
And as for the timing, it’s not like they haven’t been having discussions. If they needed the roster spot open, they would have left it open. Additionally, JTA (or Duarte, or Kessler) could easily be waived if an unexpected opportunity came up that required another roster spot.
what is the story with Ellis- a two way guy? can he play in the plaoffs?Does his two have to be converted to a spot on the big roster? who leaves then?
