The Sacramento Kings are signing undrafted guard Boogie Ellis, according to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania:
Undrafted USC guard Boogie Ellis has agreed on a deal with the Sacramento Kings, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Ellis – who shot 54 percent from 3-point range in Summer League – will compete for an open roster spot in Kings training camp. pic.twitter.com/xQXfQq7JoW

In his senior season at USC, Boogie averaged 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He also shot 41.8% on threes, while averaging 7.2 three point attempts per game. He continued his sharpshooting at Summer League, shooting 54% from 3 for the Kings.
The wording of Shams’ tweet suggests this is a camp deal. I’d guess it will be an Exhibit 10 deal, allowing Boogie an opportunity but also providing an avenue for him to join the Stockton Kings if he doesn’t make the main roster.
The Kings have a plethora of guards right now, so barring a trade before the season begins I’d be surprised if Ellis makes the main roster, but I like this move anyway. Ellis played well in Summer League and had good energy, and it’s great to see him getting a shot to prove himself further.
Good signing. More potential than Jordan Ford. One of the best SL guys.
Could use both him and Timme in Stockton to run Kings stuff. Exhibit 10’s.
kings have too many guards, so he won’t make big team. I liked him more than Mason Jones and certainly better than Colby showed (he does need more leniency for a while though)
In the end, Kings keep Fox, Ellis, KH for now, Monk and have to keep Carter.
This leaves Mac and Colby vulnerable. If Carter comes back this year, Mac is on the bubble. There is just not a lot of room for this other Ellis.
Tyus Jones signed minimal vet deal with Suns. He is probably better than Mac but Mac plays D.
Huerter and Colby could get moved.
Is losing Edwards a bad thing? “Losing” is relative since he was an URFA.
There is some re-balancing going on. Who has too many 3/4 guys?
NOP is interesting. Jonas left. The 5 spot will be Zion maybe, Missi a rookie or Thais. This moves Herb Jones to the bench and keeps Trey Murphy there.
Did Mavs have “greatest off season ever”? klank, Dinwiddie, Marshall, Edwards, Not really sure.
If you look at what he has done in the little bit of time he has done anything against other g league guys he is better than Ford, and Colby Jones. At least they let Ford move on before adding another guard into the mix.
Wonder where this leaves Colby?
Another Boogie wearing #15!
We all know how well that went.
Sure…
So far this Boogie seems like a good team mate.
.
Time to dance?
My gut says it’s a thank you camp deal. There really is no spot for him on the roster or in the current rotation. If no other team shows interest after camp, I’m guessing he’s got a guaranteed spot on Stockton and a next in line “promise’ for a 2-way contract.
Good on the Kings for throwing some money at a guy who balled out in summer league. I’m hoping agents and future non-first round picks take notice. Monte is obviously very willing to reach beyond the draft.
Sasha is getting paid more in the Euro League than he would have been paid if he stayed here. Based on basketball abilities Boogie is a $100MM player if you use Sasha’s deal as the reference for value.
5 years $18M works out to about half what he was making here annually
Euros and US Dollars.
Taxed vs. no tax.
He is getting paid more to play in Greece.
He is netting a bit more…
He took a car and a house in the deal as well. Working out just fine for Sasha. Good for him. Good to see basketball thrive globally as well.
Boogie handled his time on the court admirably. Under control, heady, and rising to the occasion when called to do so, he seemed to become Coach Christie’s go to option despite having 4 players ahead of him in Keon, Colby, Isaac and Isaiah.
He was also the leader for the Trojan squad which had two more touted 19 year olds in #28 pick (Jazz) Isaiah Collier and l#55 Bonny James (LAL) leading them in ppg. He’s been a reliably good 3 point shooter.
It takes all shapes and sizes to find a spot in The Association. You’d think he’ll have a better fit in Mike Brown’s Kings than the recently traded Davion Mitchell (despite increasing 3FG% the last part of last season). The 23.5 y/o has 6’7” wingspan, and a 39” vertical. He is known for his quickness and strong decision making.
He’s another guy to root for. Go Boogie Go!
If you are a guard you should try to play for the Kings during summer league. Three guards or nineteen guards there is always room for more.
You get a Guard…..snd you get a Guard….and you get a Guard
Our own Chelsea Gray piling up assists against Japan in the first half.
Another short combo guard? Awesome. Can’t have enough of those.
I think we are looking for top secret Euro guy that nobody knows about yet. It is not Sasha. It is the Yeti of basketball.
