Thanks again.

A few comments/questions that popped up listening to this:

Fox didn’t start out strong on D. That came later in the season, around February, unless I am very mistaken. And didn’t his increased focus on D coincide with his dip in shooting efficiency? So I am wondering whether he has the strength and stamina to do both at once at a high level?

I’d like Keegan to get a little stronger and be able to bully people inside a bit, on both sides of the ball.

Watching these play-offs, I see players take up their intensity a notch or two. And it made me wonder if one of the reasons why Domas may disappoint a bit in the postseason is that he is already playing at his highest level of intensity all season long, and has no extra notch left.

Watching these playoffs is so incredibly disappointing seeing Hali and Luca kill it. I’m still uneasy about keeping Fox and adding sabonis-both not shooters (Fox maybe?) as I was when the Kings made the trade.

Id rather have Hali then Fox back then amd still do today. Could be Monte/Kings put all their eggs into the wrong basket.

We shall see.

Hali isn’t “killing” it, the addition of Siakam was HUGE, the east is weak and the pacers barely made it past incredibly injured Mil and NY

Fine. He was in season but injured. Siakam? Kings have Sabonis don’t they?

And Fox and co didn’t even make the playoffs in the west. Couldn’t even win a series last year.

Hali and Co beat a Knicks team that the Kings couldn’t down the stretch.

Hai and co have gone further than Fox and Sab. Perhaps in large part because Hali can shoot. Fox and Sabs, not so much.

Mcnair and Viv before decided to build around Fox. Now Hali and Luca are winning-Fox is not because you have to shoot to win in playoffs.

Last years Fox I’d be happy with but this far, the bet on Fox is questionable –

Kings don’t have a Siakam on the roster…sabonis closer comp is Myles Turner which they have.

Kings do better than Pacers with the same schedule and it’s not even close to me. Pacers don’t make the playoffs in the west.

Pacers beat a injury riddled Knicks team.

You can glaze Hali all you want, just being in the east vs west is a game changer.

They would of traded fox over hali if they could have, the offers at the time were not there for fox when you took into account salaries. Luka has ZERO to do with current FO, shouldn’t ever talk about him and Monte in the same breathe.

Yep, I agree that Indiana’s success is more based on roster composition than Hali. Dallas? Yeah, that one hurts. Luka gets a championship, he’ll probably be put into the GOAT conversation – and that one stings. The success of Dallas is more based on Luka than team composition. I can’t name any starters on Dallas other than Irving and Luka.

The classic excuse for not being able to be a two way player…so sick of hearing they have to either focus energy on offense or defense, fattest excuse in modern basketball.

interesting discussion about a possible Domas / Jonas frontcourt. I’m not rejecting the idea.

regarding Dalton Knecht, I can see a Terence Davis type of outcome. someone who can get hot off the bench.

still I think a prospect to discuss is Baylor Scheierman because of the added playmaking he would provide at 6’7″, and the possibilities he would have playing with Sabonis. I did ask Will on a podcast thread last year, around this time, for his thoughts.

Knecht is a taller more athletic version of Tyler Hero . 6-6 with highest vertical at combine -40 inches .

that would be an amazing player. But isn’t Herro also a ball handler and playmaker with his 4.5 dimes per game and 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio? Not dissing on Knecht – a gunner off the bench has value and can impact a game.

by the way Hardwood Hoops Sessions on YouTube is back, and they compile a substantial amount footage in one place on many prospects. They have one out on Knecht already. I’ll take another look.

Hero was an off the ball shooter in college . Developed more handle in his last several Heat seasons . Also, seems similar to Klay Thompson in college . No idea if he will become that in NBA but few thought Klay was special than either . Interested in your thoughts !

If we’re looking at stats, a college freshman who takes 11 shots a game mostly off the ball and gets 2.5 assists to 1.5 turnovers (Herro) would seem to share the ball more than a 5-year senior taking 16 shots with 1.8 dimes to 1.7 turnovers (Knecht). Given his reputation as a below average defender in college, Knecht would be the worst defender in an nba starting unit. So everyone else would have to cover for him on D while he’s not sharing the ball on O, and not creating open shots for others. That’s typically not a recipe for success. His stats were similar at Northern Colorado, so it does not seem to be the result of coaching or teammates. Plus, from what I’ve seen, it doesn’t seem like he’s looking for his teammates. A bit of tunnel vision. That’s why I see him as an off-the-bench scorer, which can still be valuable. Look at those games last year where TD got hot, for example.

Klay was a great defender before the knee injury. He could guard the opponent’s best guard which helped Curry. I’ll take a closer look at Knecht’s defense later, but for now, it seems to be a weakness of his.

Got that you don’t like him. You may be correct and time will tell . I think he is a terrific prospect and likely taken in top 10 .

who said I didn’t like him? And who said he’s not a good prospect? Wow, I say he can find a place in the NBA as a scorer off the bench and people interpret that as an insult. go figure.

on some teams, maybe. In Sacramento, I think Keon and Keegan are better, and that they need to upgrade HB’s position with a different type of player.

Dougie McBuckets McDermott is more the player described than Tyler Herro, IMO.

in terms of role as a scorer off the bench, I agree. However, Knecht seems more athletic and better at contesting shots.

where Scheierman has the advantage is that he plays a team game. Each of the players on offense will be a little better playing with Scheierman. That’s 4 guys getting better shots, 4 guys knowing that if they pass, they might get the ball back, 4 guys knowing that if they make a good cut, someone will get them the ball.

I like senior Terrance Shannon…absolute offensive dawg mentality from the wing that plays solid enough defense and can contribute early on

I’ve been aware of Shannon for a while – 5 or 6 years. for some reason, every time I see him play, he does something erratic on offense. it does not make me want to dive into his footage. But most people have him as a 2nd rounder, so you’re not alone.

Terrence Shannon, Jr. has an open sexual assault allegation and that is the main reason his stock has dropped.

Enjoyable as usual . Truly like the idea of going after Derrick Jones Jr. Also. Jonas might work pace would slow but D and toughness would improve .

Thanks for another good show. It was a breath of fresh air from some of the regular horror-house comments that KH regulars regularly see.

The comment I most strongly agreed with was Jerry’s suggestion to move Harrison Barnes to the bench. I believe a move like that would open him up in a big way that helps the Kings.

Anyway, the Kings are clearly in a good position now, and I hope it only gets better going forward.

I wanted a Barnes/Lyles swap all year…not because Lyles is better than Barnes but because the fit for both units would of been better for the team

Thank you again Will, Tony and The Great Jerry Reynolds for an entertaining show.

Just my opinion, but Monk will leave for the money (and I don’t blame him) but I don’t believe he will be a starter on any of the teams in the hunt for him. He’s a Terrence Ross, Jamal Crawford player, and those guys weren’t starters either. He may not have won the 6th Man Award (grats to Naz Reid who is kickin’ butt in the playoffs) but his accolades and reputation are centered around that performance as a Laker and King. Not for his time with the team that drafted him, Charlotte. If the money is around what the Kings can offer, and they offer him that $78M/4 yrs that they can, I would bet he stays here in NorCal.

As for Keldon Johnson, or Jonas Valanciunas or Derrick Jones, Jr. – each one of them brings unique skills that would upgrade the Kings overall talent base. Perhaps too much, I see Sacramento as low on the Free Agent lists. If the Kings can grab a Free Agent of that caliber and trade for a player of that caliber, I am all for a roster shake up.

The one worry I have for the #13 pick; whomever the Kings take – they will need to be more developed than project potential talent. Do you see Mike Brown taking a rookie and playing him over Harrison Barnes, Kevin Huerter, Keon, Lyles? Keegan was different, look at Colby Jones. Once drafted and then not given much playing minutes (or given Stockton minutes) that draft picks’ value begins to erode. As an unknown, #13 has more luster, IMO. As has been said already (I believe by Adamsite) the #13 also has value in this weaker draft as being a $12M/3 yr player over a player with little difference picked at 1-5 who will be earning (#1 gets $32M/3 years, #4 $23M/3 years for example)

I am looking forward to the next episode already.
