The Sacramento Kings have exercised Devin Carter’s third-year option, according to a press release.
Carter, who was the 13th overall pick by the Kings in the 2024 NBA Draft, is owed $5.1 million in the 2026-27 season. Carter’s contract moves to a team option of $7.3 million in the 2027-28 season. The second-year guard averaged 3.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists last season in 11 minutes per game (36 games played).
In the first preseason game against the Toronto Raptors, Carter finished with 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal in 16 minutes. He was part of the fourth-quarter group that rallied to almost save a very underwhelming performance by the Kings. In the second preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Carter finished with 6 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal in 15 minutes.
Carter is likely one of the key players Doug Christie will test using as a backup point guard this season behind Dennis Schroder.
Update (9:30 p.m.): Never mind, the Kings are signing Russell Westbrook now. Everything is fixed with the backup point guard spot and this season.

I didn’t realize he had dropped it.
Unnecessarily inevitable.
Knew it was coming. I bet they overpaid too.
Idk how to feel about this, he’s just the type of player Doug Christie would like, but i worry he’s just the type of player like 3-4+ years ago…Also not sure if he will fit into the team chemistry we have of nice-guys and mostly guards
we have team chemistry?
Carter is a tough one for me, lack of decision-making and ball handling skills. Has great finish around the rim, but 3 pt shot takes a long time to get off. Cant remember if he has a mid game but feel like answer is no outside of floater
Good size and length, moves well on defense.Re-occuring issues with shoulder is obviously concerning. Back-up material for sure for now
Seems like a bigger, longer version of Davion….maybe just needs more time, and PT
