The Sacramento Kings have officially hired Mike Woodson as the associate head coach, according to a press release sent out by the team. Woodson has 25 years of coaching experience in the NBA, and spent the last four years as the head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers.
The Kings had considered him for the head coaching position in 2016. Check out more about Woodson here.
In the press release, head coach Doug Christie had this to say:
“Mike Woodson brings decades of coaching experience to this staff. His impact will be extremely valuable, and I’m looking forward to getting to work with him.”
Woodson has a long basketball career, starting as a collegiate basketball player at Indiana University. He was a Big Ten Player in 1980. He played in the NBA for 11 years, including on both the Kansas City Kings and Sacramento Kings after the team relocated here in 1985. Woodson, in fact, was mentioned in Rob’s latest “Just Wait ‘til Next Year” series about the 1986 season.
We’ll keep you updated as any other coaching positions under Christie solidify.
NBA Finals here we come!
Of all of the off season moves so far, this is one of them.
Congratulations to Mike Woodson for getting the Kings Head Coaching job in a couple years when Doug Christie gets fired!
Yes, Mike Woodson, our next head coach. This move sure does put Doug on the hot seat this season.
A couple years is awfully generous for what this team currently is. I’d love to eat crow next season when we’re in the wcf though
Fixed it for you….
Congratulations to Mike Woodson for getting the General Manager position with the University of New Hampshire’s basketball program in two years just before Doug Christie gets fired.
Should be better than Luke Walton
The rotting corpse of Pat Reilly would be better than LLLLLLLuke Walton.
I know that Reilly is still alive, but have you seen him recently?
New Ties.
That is one wide crevat. That is a 40 year old tie, minimum (I’d judge, around mid-1970s to mid-1980s). Buy the man some new ties.
Ties to the past – Pre-Legacy Kings! at least there is that. Can’t wait until they give Brad Miller an ambassadorship title. Come fly the friendly skies with B-52!
IF the Kings are really set on being a new identity – other than we lose to bad teams at home – and one of competence, which is of course the question that is heavily stacked against them – If I close one eye and cover the other, I can see defense. Doug Christie, Mike Woodson are defensive oriented guys. Hopefully, they also address the misbegotten excuse of an offensive execution that we’ve seen under Coach DC. There was word that Bobby Jax was also going to be coming back to Sac, but at this point, I don’t know if it was rumor or innuendo.
Leandro Barbossa is apparently also going to stay. That makes 4 coaches, only 5 or 6 left to go!
I am also trying to get excited about the Scott Perry, BJ Armstrong front office. Until we see something, I have no idea on how that will go.
I’m sure this will mehk a big difference
Mike Woodson statue if we win the lottery tonight!
I want a Lego statue!
Added bonus of Philly dropping 3 slots and losing their pick to OKC.
I don’t think they take Flagg at No 1.
I mean, how is his second jump?
Can always trade down for the 13th and 18th pick. Draft Papagianis II and Stauskas’ cousin.
You’re welcome Mr. Perry. I’ll take a pair of courtside tix with all the bells and whistles as my cut.
only if they throw in cash considerations
only took me 4 tries on talkathon for the Kings to get the number one pick so should be pretty easy for them
Fire Keon!
Mavs and Spurs move up? It’s rigged!
76ers too? Wow
Totally rigged. Maybe the Hornets get the top pick instead!
Hope it’s the Spurs of those 4.
Fucking Kangz. The team they lose to in the Play-In jumps in the draft. If only the Kings had lost one more game. That last win in the last game of the season really stings.
And now the Mavs got #1. The Kangz had just one more fucking win than them.
Think of it this way –
Now the Kings get to keep their Top 10 pick next year!
And we can trade those 2 2nd rounders to help move Monk and DDR!
Not if they trade it for Jordan Poole!
Mavericks and Spurs. The west goes through Texas and Oklahoma.
And I’ve got a gut feeling Houston is going to go all in on Giannis. The Kings aren’t making the playoffs anytime soon.
You have good instincts.
it is so sad for us again
Wow! Mavs number 1. Who are the Kings better than in the West next year. Suns, Jazz. That’s it.
Thank goodness we have proven leadership with Perry Christie Woodson and sparkling ownership.
Woodson is notorious for running an ineffective iso-heavy offense when he was head coach. No thanks. I have zero excitement regarding his hire. A 67-year-old veteran retread. It’s a huge no for me. What, did he like convince Vivek iso offense is like basketball 4.0 or something?
