The Sacramento Kings have ruled Kevin Huerter out of tomorrow’s game due to a left shoulder dislocation, based on the team’s official injury report. We are still waiting for any sort of official medical update from the Kings regarding an expected time frame for Huerter to be out, but even a relatively minor dislocation likely puts Huerter out for several weeks. Mike Brown indicated in his post-game comments on Monday that Keon Ellis would take over Huerter’s starting spot for the time being.

The Kings may also be getting Sasha Vezenkov back from injury. Vezenkov reportedly went through a full pre-game shootaround yesterday, and is now listed as Questionable for the game against the Raptors. With Trey Lyles out, getting Vezenkov back would be a welcome boost for the Kings bench.

For the time being, we’ll hope that Sasha is back full strength soon, and we’ll wish Kevin a speedy recovery from what looked like a very painful injury. We will provide an update if we hear more from the Kings.

3/21/24 Update

The Sacramento Kings provided an official update. From the Kings:

Imaging confirmed Huerter suffered a dislocated shoulder and a labral tear. Treatment options are still being evaluated. Huerter will be listed as out.

This all-but-officially rules Huerter out for the remainder of the year. Hopefully the injury doesn’t require surgery, and we hope Kevin can make a full recovery and be ready to bounce back next season.

It would be great to get Sasha back for tomorrow’s game. We’re gonna need all the help we can get to finish out the season. Huerter likely is done for the season, and for Lyles, it will take longer than after he his re-evaluation in that two week timeframe before he’ll be ready to go.

Would love to see Vez back and with Huerter out, maybe utilized more on O. Incorporate him.

I actually think The Vezler is a better Huerter. Can make big buckets.

Vezenkov maybe a good fit for part of Huerter’s role (move, shoot .. and hopefully make like last year). Huerter is probably a better secondary ballhandler/playmaker – maybe Barnes can take some of that on (if you play Vzenkov, Keegan, Barnes together you should find some mismatches for post-ups).

Question: If Huerter is ruled out for the rest of the season, could the Kings apply for an injury exception and sign another player for the rest of the season and possibly the playoffs?

Teams have until January 15 to apply for a disabled player exception and until March 11 to actually use them (the typical deadline is March 10, but it gets pushed to the next business day when March 10 falls on a weekend).

Too bad we don’t have an open roster spot. Metu could have been a decent short-term replacement for Lyles.

I didn’t get home to watch the game until the fourth quarter, but saw Huerter’s injury on a replay. That is an ugly one, the type that makes you physically flinch just seeing it. I hope it’s not a really bad dislocation, I assume that there are grades of them, and like I keep telling you, I am not a licensed physician.

Vez coming back hot would sure be helpful, since pretty much everyone else is having a bad stretch, compared to the usual.

I’m wondering now if Lyles’ recent ineffectiveness was primary about his knee. It would explain a lot.

Raptors have a ton of guys out and they aren’t a very good team. Tomorrow should be another easy win.

Hoping Huerter has a quick recovery!
Also hoping ShaVez is able to come back in and continue contributing solid minutes off the bench, we’re definitely going to need him down the stretch.

This might be a turning point in the franchise’s history when we look back. The basketball gods forcing MB’s hand to start Keon down the most important stretch of the season. If Keon leads us to a Top 15 defense and a second round playoff spot we may never look back.

bad news good news.

bad news first. Thank you

From a fan who thinks he knows everything and would definitely make better rotation decisions than Mike Brown does(of course), I feel like this might be a bit of a blessing? 🤷‍♂️😬

Huerter and Lyle’s being out simultaneously opens up a huge door for Sasha. I hope Sasha is back to 100% very very soon. The potential is there and it’s massive. I liked how he was performing before his injury and wanted him to get more minutes. Maybe this is the unfortunate opportunity that releases the beast that is MVP Sasha? Could be a game changer. His big shot making ability and arguably the best pure shooter on the squad at this moment in the season with so much inconsistent shooting being the main reason for our losses, a forced roll of more significant minutes could be a legitimate game changer. The potential of this is exciting. Could this not come anywhere near what my purple dreams desire? Sure. But… what if those dreams come true?! Game changer! difference maker! Just in time for him to get comfortable and confident for the playoffs. If we see the swag of MVP Sasha in sacramento at this point of the season, it’s going to be magical.

Then Keon, this forces him into a much much bigger role with no politics or “handling of personalities/dynamics” getting in the way. Let him loose, play loose! How much better does Keon make or team defense? Even a small amount makes a massive difference in the win/loss column.

It sucks Kevin is hurt. Really sucks. He’s a very good player even when he’s not at his optimal performance and confidence level. It sucks Trey is hurt, when healthy he had a massive impact off the bench and was a huge contributor of team success both offensively and defensively. We need both these guys back 100%.

but, what if they come back and they are in a supportive roll to both Keon and Sasha?!

That, my purple friends would be an absolute god damn game changer and the makings of a team that can move past the first round of the playoffs.

lets hope my arco thunder dreams come true and we light soooooo many mother F’n beams

With the way Kevin was holding his wrist/arm it wouldn’t suprise me he’s out the rest of the regular season. Not including tonight there are 14 games left over 3.5 weeks. Might be a good idea to rest him and Trey till then, have at least someone fresher for the post season.

Excited to see Keon and Sasha get the chance to ball out. Keon just has an ability to be a pest around the ball, seems like he’s getting a deflection on every other pass. I feel like Sasha was starting to move without the ball better in our offense, being in the right position more to sneak behind the defense for a pass from Domas into the paint. Hope he’s good to go tonight and splashes a few 3’s early.

Was this article repurposed and given today’s date? I may be hallucinating, but I’d swear I read this yesterday.

It got updated with more details (labral tear alongside the dislocation), so it got pushed back to the top. Extremely likely his season is done.

I’ve had three labral tears and they suck.
KH can play through it this season so he may be back. But this injury really only heals through surgery, at least in my experience, so I’m guessing surgery is on the horizon for KH.
