The Houston Rockets have shown interest in George Hill

Daryl Morey doesn’t have a ton to offer the Kings.

Earlier this evening, Sacramento Bee columnist Jason Jones published an update regarding the George Hill trade talks. With less than a day until the deadline, Jones mentioned a new suitor emerging for our veteran point guard: the Houston Rockets.

A straight swap of Sacramento-bred Ryan Anderson and George Hill works under the CBA, but it’s unlikely the Kings are interested in that sort of deal. Anderson has three fully guaranteed years left on his deal and will make $20 million more than Hill in the 2019-2020 season.

Jones states that the Kings are being cautious in talks. Vlade Divac does not want to become a dumping ground for long-term, overpaid contracts unless significant assets are coming back. The Houston Rockets don’t have any young players or high value future first rounders to attract Sacramento during discussions and Ryan Anderson doesn’t fit the timeline of the rebuild.

Two other interesting tidbits emerged from the article. Other teams have made inquired about the services of Garrett Temple, Vince Carter, and Kosta Koufos. Zach Randolph’s name is noticeably absent from the list. The difficulty of the Cleveland trade was also brought up due to the Kings need of another open roster spot in order to facilitate the proposed deal with the Cavaliers. Jones says that the Kings are reluctant to part with a young player like Malachi Richardson.

It sounds like our Front Office is weighing every deal heavily and isn’t going to rush into a trade just for action’s sake, which is exactly where they should be.
