Sacramento Kings to add Nancy Lieberman to coaching staff

By | 0 Comments | Mar 5, 2019

The Sacramento Kings will be making another addition to their coaching staff in the near future, this time of the progressive variety. Ailene Voisin of the Sacramento Bee reports that the Kings will be offering Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman a job on the staff and that Lieberman will accept. Lieberman will become just the second female assistant in NBA history after Becky Hammon joined San Antonio's staff last season.

There were rumors back in February when Karl was hired that Lieberman could be an addition, and she spent this past month helping out the Kings during Las Vegas Summer League in an unofficial capacity. Her time with the team there seemed to convince the team to go ahead with the offer.

From the Sacramento Bee:

Lieberman has vast basketball experience, both in playing and coaching. She was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996 and recently has spent time in the NBA D-League, where she started out as a coach of Dallas' affiliate (making her the first woman to coach in the D-League) and then moved up to become the assistant general manager of that team.

This is yet another great development for women in the sports world and I'm glad the Sacramento Kings are at the forefront of progress. Lieberman brings a lot of experience and success to the table, and I'm sure that will all carry over in this next chapter of her career.
