In unfortunate Sacramento Kings free agency news, this morning Sam Amick reported that Quincy Acy will be declining his player option for next season, and will enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.
Quincy Acy had an outstanding-for-a-role-player year for the Kings this season, averaging 5.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 14.8 minutes per game, shooting .556 from the field, and .388 from three.
Beyond the numbers, Acy provided the Kings with defense, energy, and toughness regardless of where he was slotted in the rotation, and his developing three-point shot really rounded Acy out as a solid bench contributor.
Acy opted out of a contract that would have paid him around $1 million for his services next season. In other words, he would have been leaving millions of dollars on the table if he hadn't opted out. It was a no brainer.
The Kings should have interest in bringing Acy back, and I have no reason to believe that wouldn't be on the table, but if you're looking for Kings free agency news, I suppose this is the first domino to drop.
