Sacramento Kings announce Downtown Arena Groundbreaking set for Wednesday

By | 0 Comments | Mar 2, 2019

The ongoing joke regarding the Kings arena for the last decade has been "I'll believe it when I see shovels going into the ground". That day has actually come, and it's next Wednesday.

The Kings sent out a press release today announcing the groundbreaking ceremony would take place at 11:30 am on Wednesday, October 29th, also the same day as Opening Night of the Regular Season. Unfortunately the public is not invited as it is an active construction site, but the entire event will be live streamed.

Demolition on the site is continuing and is almost done. Per the Kings, the site should begin to go vertical sometime in the beginning of 2015, still on pace for an October 2016 debut.

This is a momentous event, and one many of us never thought we'd see just a few years ago. Once again, much thanks to Mayor Johnson, Vivek Ranadivé and the countless others who worked behind the scenes to make this possible. This is a great time to be a Sacramentan.
