It's easy to take things for granted. As Sacramento Kings fans, we know that most games we can enjoy listening to Grant Napear on play-by-play, and Jerry Reynolds providing color commentary. We all know they're among the best in the league at their respective roles. I'm not breaking any news here, but a couple moments in the Kings victory over the Golden State Warriors stood out to me, and reminded me just how lucky we are.
Early in the first quarter DeMarcus Cousins went to the basket and was blocked by JaVale McGee, but a foul was called. The broadcast showed the replay, and Grant and Jerry both acknowledged that the refs had gotten the call wrong.
This may not seem like much if you exclusively watch the Kings broadcast, but play by play crews throughout the league consistently fail this one simple task. Grant and Jerry have always been quick to acknowledge when the Kings catch a break, and they’ll praise opponents when they play well.
On the same play, Grant made a comment to the effect of “"I think DeMarcus sometimes forgets the calls he does get.”
It’s a valid point and a fair critique of the Kings’ star player. Listen to other broadcasts and every man on the roster is infallible.
Again, I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I felt like we could take a moment as we're enjoying a surprise win, and we could also appreciate the awesome broadcast team we get to enjoy.
