Dozier was a promising player for the Denver Nuggets before suffering a torn ACL. He’s been working his way back, and has spent this season in the G League with Minnesota. During his time in Denver, Dozier was coached by Jordi Fernandez.
To get a better sense of what Dozier could bring to the table, I reached out to Ryan Blackburn of Mile High Sports. Here’s what he had to say:
When he was healthy, he was athletic and coordinated as a ball handler and connector. Great physical tools for a backcourt player. Forced to play SF for Denver before tearing the ACL, but he was better as a guard. Hit or miss jumper and can be hit or miss finisher, but he’s got some good instincts on both ends and is a great team defender. I like him a lot, and he has a mature personality that comes thru in interviews.
It will be interesting to see how Sacramento uses Dozier and if he can help a bench unit that has been struggling lately.
Can he play BC?
*back-up center
Hehe, I read this as “can he play B.C” as in years.
Meh, ok.
So who’s minutes does he potentially eat into? Monk and Huerter?
I imagine this is injury insurance for Monk/Huerter, since they’ve both been on the injury report off and on for a while. He also could play SF in a pinch, which isn’t a bad thing for this squad
But the Kings already have TD.
I almost wonder if this is a tryout for Dozier as a replacement for Monk or TD. As much as Monk has been a spark of the bench at times, I’d imagine he does have value on the trade market. Maybe Monte’s long term plan is to move someone in the deep guard rotation to shore up the rotation elsewhere?
We sure need a backup to Sabonis.
yes, agree.
and thank you again for not trading me for Buddy.
Dozier does not move the needle a lot. There may be another move in the works. For that bad back up center.
I do think Keon Ellis is a pretty good defender himself. Dozier has more experience.
with a 10 day, he will play.
maybe Davion is on the block but right now he is the Kings best defender
I read this as prose.
I seriously doubt Davion is on the block but maybe.
No way they are trading Monk (6th man of the year candidate)
replacement for TD in a potential package deal they are working on… sure
Davis
Yeah, I think Davis played himself completely out of the rotation. His D against the Lakers was horrid.
neither
Will he play defense?
Probably not, which means he will fit right in.
Going to be the next max deal King.
interesting pickup. Fits the profile of a type of player I think the team could use on the roster. got to the final four with South Carolina.
That’s got to make sense somehow. Just gotta guess how.
Needs:
-Rebounding, defensive frontcourt player.
-Small forward who can defend.
-Zebras who don’t hate Sacramento, particularly, Fox and Sabonis
P Dozier:
Shooting Guard who is rehabbing with good instincts on both the D and O sides
6’6″ (R) handed, from 2017 draft (undraftred) from South Carolina (Gamecocks). Played with Denver: Games 105, 6.4 ppg/3 rpg/1.8 apg PER 10.8
um, defense checks a box of team needs. if it pans out, he’s a utility guy who can back up three positions.
FWIW, it appears to me his career numbers are close to on par with Justin Jackson.
SF- Barnes and Keegan- Barnes seems like a solid defender and Keegan is improving and has plyus defensive numbers.
Seems like the issue is in part on the perimeter- don’t let these guys penetrate and second once they get there, smash them like all the other teams do to the Kings
Not going to get too revved up over a 10 day signing. He apparently fits the roster better than Moneke. Beyond that, if he can overtake Okpala or Davis, fine.
Well put. What it tells me is that they aren’t interested in projects at the C spot.
Maybe because they already have one in Queta.
I’m sure that’s a part of it.
Off topic and not sure if it’s been discussed already but with the Lakers recent streak without AD and Thomas Bryant looking better every game.. any chance they might be looking to move him?
Not sure at all what his cost would be with contract and injury history but I could not think of a better match with Domas in the paint. Elite rim protection, when healthy is a beast on both ends, can hit the 3. It’s just how many games can you get out of him a year would be the biggest question mark.
I would imagine not wanting to come here might be a pretty big question mark.
The last thing this team needs is another great hope.
I don’t think they move him unless Lebron wants him out. There’s also the fact that a player like AD, that has the agent he has, could most likely force his way to the team he would want to actually be traded to, like what he did to get to LA. Doubt Sacramento is one of those teams for him. And the Kings would have to give up one of Fox or Sabonis and significantly more to get him, even with his injury history. It could be done on 2k though ????
If there was such a thing as NBA MVP For the Twenty-Five Games When He Was Able to Play award, AD would have it locked.
AD is a great player, but due to things beyond his control, essentially unreliable. (New Orleans excepted, where he was completely in control of his absences.)
Honestly, I don’t think that a guy who has missed so many games can be a Top 75 player. Why didn’t Len Bias make the Top 75? He’d easily been one of the all-time greats had he lived.
You are so rude sims
…….and so damn sensitive outside of his own narrative.
