Really enjoyed this episode! Great discussion as always.
One of the best yet and a lot of interesting takes .
Agree with Jerry about the ridiculous amount of time-outs and the constant complaining of players to the refs. I also have no issue with taking away the corner 3 point spot.
And allowing the defensive players some more leeway helps too. It doesn’t have to be the Bad Boy Pistons or Pat Reilly Knicks, but nothing wrong with a bit of physicality and intensity.
I don’t regularly listen to the Bill Simmons podcast these days, but at Jerry’s recommendation I listened to his breakdown of times the NBA was in peril. I agree with Jerry, worth a listen. I think rundowns/breakdowns focused on NBA history are one of Simmons’ strengths.
I am full agreement with Tony – Malik Monk as a starter has seemed to have lessened all of those Bad Monk qualities that frustrated me. He’d come in and try and do too much and it was either glorious or disastrous. With the talent of the starters to play off of, he has more outlets for his playmaking skills and it is paying off. He is also less apt to jack up a wild shot or try some ridiculous pass or drive into the paint with three players waiting for him. He does this, but much less so. His shooting numbers could be better (from the 3 point line) but overall, he has been worth his new contract, getting starting 5 money and playing as a starter.
