Update: 9:30 pm
The Sacramento Kings lost to the Golden State Warriors Friday 137-103. The game was tied at 84 with 3 minutes left in the third quarter, but then Sacramento collapsed.
Jonathan Kuminga didn’t play. Malik Monk did. The Kings shot 26% from three, lost rebounds by 10, lost assists 39-23, and lost points in the paint by 10. DeMar DeRozan led the Kings in scoring with 24 points. Dennis Schroder scored 15 off the bench. Steph Curry finished with 27 points and 10 assists,
The tanks rolls on.
From Earlier Preview:
I’m tired of the Golden State Warriors. I’m tired of the Kings too, but I’m really tired of the Warriors. Maybe I’m just tired. The Kings are back in action tonight.
Who: Sacramento Kings (8-29) vs. Golden State Warriors (20-18)
Where: Chase Center, San Francisco, CA
When: 7:00 PM PT / 10:00 PM ET
Watch: NBCSCA / League Pass
Sacramento’s losing streak extended to 6 games following their national TV loss to the Mavericks on Tuesday, and while the Warriors aren’t having a great year, they’re heathy and should be able to take down the Kings tonight at home.
The more noteable storyline is the reemergence of the Jonathan Kuminga trade rumors that gave Kings fans something to talk about all summer, if nothing else. Kuminga is still available, obviously (he hasn’t played in 10 straight games), and according to reporter Monte Poole, the Kings are still the only NBA team that has shown a serious interest in him.
With the Kings in town to the play the Warriors, I’d be shocked if those conversations aren’t ongoing. Sacramento’s interest Kuminga should be entirely dependent on what it takes to acquire him, and right now it sounds like that cost is pretty low. Scott Perry has stated that he wants the team to get younger, a statement that is both true, and a very realistic outcome in their pursuit of Kuminga, who is somehow still just 23 years old.
I’m into taking a flyer on Kuminga FWIW, and I’ll even give Scott Perry credit if he pulls this off at a price below what the Warriors were demanding this summer. It would be a refreshing result if the Kings actually won a trade negotiation like this. Feels like it’s been a while.
Prediction: Kings 117, Warriors 112, and Kuminga is a King by the deadline.

Steve Kerr said he won’t be pretending
This year’s Dubs are really contending.
Now some fans want him fired
Because rings are required.
What Vivek’s done here is offending!
+1 Counting down the days to…
Who’s side is Kuminga on? Any Pacific Division team not name the Kings, please.
As I commented on in the Kuminga thread: who do you trust more — Ranadive or Steve Kerr? I rest my case. Something is not right with Kuminga and I don’t want a drama here.
Hmmm, so why is Monk randomly getting minutes tonight after a few DNP/CD?
Welp, Kayte and Jones talking up the talent of Kuminga. The writing is on the wall.
Ok…
so…
10 Arco Thunder opinions below:
1.) Trading for Kuminga has become super annoying but I still like the concept.
2.) the risk is minimal
3.) the reward is quite large
4.) Regarding opinions #2 and #3 — it all depends on the cost to get him. A first round pick going out in order to get Kuminga and the risk becomes MASSIVE. Demar DeRozan and a 2nd round pick for Kuminga and the risk is very low and well worth it.
5.) Regarding opinions #2 and #3 — if Keon is added as a sweetener in the deal, the reality is it’s very complicated on whether it’s a smart move or completely stupid. Why? Is Keon leaving for nothing if he is not included in a trade? Or… Is Keon willing to return to the kings for 30 million over three years and become a permanent and consistent rotational player (possible future 6 man of the year ????♂️) for Sacramento?
6.) Regarding opinion # 5 — by the sound of it Keon is a very desired player right now. If he is not going to return to sacramento (PERRY NEEDS TO KNOW THIS, HE BETTER KNOW THIS ALREADY!!). Keon’s agent surely knows and it shouldn’t be hard to get an answer on. If he does not intend on returning I would prefer Keon be used in a trade to do 1 of 2 things (both involve no risk): one = Keon to sweeten the deal of a LaVine trade/off loading with a return of at least 1 first round pick, at least one second round pick at least one young prospect (likely 2), a serviceable player under the age of 30 and a bloated contract of a player a different team wants to shed. This scenario (minus the first round pick) could be in the form of LaVine and Keon to the warriors for Kuminga, Buddy, Jackson Davis and a second round pick. To me, this is a great trade for the warriors and kings. Especially if Zac agrees to opt out of next seasons contract, renegotiate and extend with the warriors and Steph. LaVine would become the new Klay Thompson minus the defense. Keon providing the perimeter defense. For the Kings, buddy is expiring, and you have gained a young promising player in Jackson Davis, a future second round pick and financial flexibility moving forward PLUS the Kuminga experiment. Two = use him to go get a young prospect you really like. Use monk, DeRozan and or Dennis to match salaries on any deal.
7.) Regarding a point from Opinion #6 — it shouldn’t be a mystery if Keon plans to sign a new contract extension and stay in sacramento or leave in the off season as a feee agent. If he wants to stay then you keep him. Period. That new contract should already be worked out and signed before the trade deadline. Perry can use February 1 as leverage for the new contract. If it’s not signed by then then he will trade him before the deadline. Seems simple to me. If Keon wants to be a free agent then trade him now. It’s better for him to be traded now because he would truly get the opportunity to showcase himself to that new team and the rest of the league. Keon and his agent both must realize this. Right? Supposedly the Lakers are willing to trade Dalton Kinect for Keon which would be a decent trade if you know Keon isn’t returning. That lakers swap seems like a worst case scenario to me and it’s not horrible. There is no point I can see for Keon and his agent to not be very upfront and clear with Perry about his intentions and desires moving forward.
8.) KEEPERS = Spock, Nique and Max for the future, trade everyone else.
9.) I wouldn’t mind keeping Cardwell and Carter too but if they are needed to make a deal go through then you do it. Begrudgingly.
10.) Carter needs a real opportunity to show anything. Something. If the end result is that he should go to Europe, fine.
“I love watching Zach & DDR take all the shots.” – No one ever
There is that one guy in Chicago who said that a few years back, but I think they threw that dude in one of those really big lakes.
Your SacAARP Kings. Tank on baby. Sell the team Vi-Wreck!
Curry played 32 minutes to lead the Warriors. The other top 3 minute earners were DDR with 35, LaVine 30, and Russ with 28.
The Kings Big 3 might be the worst attempt of a Big 3 in the history of the game. The Royal Trifuckta
Yay, back in last place in the WC. The genius of Vivek laid bare for the world to see.
Vets took 75% of the shots to lose by 34. I guess anything that results in a higher draft pick is by definition good.
Officially THE worst team in the West. Only trailing Indiana for the worst record in the league.
So all according to the plan, no?
How those 6 pillars working out for ya Scotty P?
Question: Of all the games played so far how many were lost in the fourth quarter. I just can’t understand this. The only explanation is the team is told to tank the fourth quarter so we can get a good spot in the next draft. Other than that someone explain a different reason.
I’m off the belief that players don’t tank. It’s just not in their nature. Coaches may be instructed to tank, like when Utah sat Lauri last season at the front office’s orders, but coaches don’t necessarily tank either.
My guess is that in the second half, Doug is being thoroughly out coached. Other teams are making adjustments and shutting down the Kings elementary offense while also finding the numerous weak points in the defense.
Bad teams get exploited as the game goes on and the Kings are a very bad team. They are arguably the worst in the league.
Thanks.
An unintentional tank is the only thing that will save this franchise.
I’m so happy I started following the Blazers since last season.
It’s a nice young team with some up and coming players fighting through several injuries (Holiday, Grant, Scoot etc.) and still staying relevant in pursuit of a play-off spot. Fun to see Deni Avdija developing into a star.
Sorry not sorry.
Sucktown for the tank! Reverse tank mode, old guys with no potential instead of young guys with upside… next level basketball you fools. Building a roster of has beens for tanking and supporting the retirement funds of the elderly, pure philanthropy.
The Kings have the second lowest win total in the NBA. They’re a shoo-in for the #6 pick in the draft.
Checking in after some time after noticing we have the worst record in the West and second worst in the league!
Tank on.
Trade deadline less than a month away. Hopefully at least a few vets are traded and we finish the season with the worst record and top 3 pick.
My Raiders have sucked for almost a quarter century, they finally tanked and have the right to draft a franchise QB in Mendoza, giving the fan base hope for the first time in a looong time. The only thing that will give Kangz fans hope is a top 3 pick in this draft to potentially land a franchise player (3 big names in this draft) . I have to assume SP and Vivek know this.
May the tank be with us.
Sacramento Kings officially last place, 15th in the Western Division.
29th of 30, the Indiana Pacers, who last season played in the NBA Finals, and have reloaded anyway.
Sell The Team
Question: If the Kings could trade for a player like Kuminga or Eason would it be wise to go after a point guard for the future? I personally lf we aren’t in the top 3 like Kingston Fleming or my second choice would be Mikel Brown Jr. Either one IMO could be a franchise point guard for years to come. I really like Kingston Fleming.
They have Dennis for the near future. Unless they move him, he’s probably a good stopgap PG for next season’s continued tank.
When it comes to the draft, which is hopefully a tip 3 pick, just take the BPA and go from there. There is probably no point in worrying about positions and fit for a while. Meaning, if the BPA plays the same position as Keegan, Sabonis, or LaVine, or whoever, so bit it. Pick that player and then build from there.
Deuce and Mo had Anthony Slater on their podcast a day or two ago. He said it best when he mused the Kings best player is still playing college ball right now. The reset comes with who they pick, not who they trade for.
I’m trying to understand why Indy is so bad. Does missing Hali and Turner affect the team that much? They were never good defensively, so I guess Turner was that much of an anchor to their rim protection?
Seriously, they won 50 games last year and this year they are on pace for around 15. That’s a 35 game swing with two starters gone. Boson lost more and are still trucking along, so what is wrong with Indy?
Schroder suspended.
Lol, wut?
I’ll add, dudes normally get a game for actually hitting another player in the game. This is a 3 game suspension so there has to be more to this story.
The third game of the suspension would be against Luka. Coincidental?
40 minutes after the game? I’d like to hear more for sure. Was he in the Lakers locker room?
Which of the 6 pillars does this fall under?
that is bizarre- 2 weeks later?
is this a joke?
