Kings takedown Rockets in Overtime Thriller

Clutch threes from Russell Westbrook and Dennis Schröder saved the day for Sacramento.

UPDATE:

What a game.  In the midst of what has been one of the worst seasons in franchise history, the Kings proved they can still put together some entertaining moments.  The Kings put together a complete team effort and managed to outlast the Houston Rockets in overtime, winning 125-124 after Dennis Schröder’s clutch corner three gave the Kings the lead with 2.2 seconds left.  The Kings only found themselves in overtime thanks to a three from the other point guard on the roster, Russell Westbrook, who hit a shot from the opposite corner to tie the game up at the end of regulation.

The Kings had five players finish in double digits, with four of them scoring over 20.  DeMar DeRozan led the way with 27 points, 4 rebounds and 9 assists, including the one that set up Schröder’s game winner.  Keegan Murray added 26 and finally started hitting some of his outside shots, making 3 of 4 from distance, all while playing excellent defense on Kevin Durant.  Westbrook scored 21 points to go with 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals while Schröder had a Westbrookian line himself with 24 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds.  Rookie center Maxime Raynaud fouled out in overtime but not before tallying yet another double-double with 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.

The Sacramento Kings return to Golden 1 Center tonight to face the Houston Rockets on the second night of a back-to-back. Let’s get to it.

Who: Sacramento Kings (6-22) vs. Houston Rockets (17-8)
Where: Golden 1 Center, Sacramento, CA
When: 7:00 PM PT / 10:00 PM ET
Watch: NBCSCA / League Pass

The Kings have lost 5 in a row following back-to-back losses against the Portland Trail Blazers, cementing their place among the worst teams in the NBA this season. Sacramento, at 6-22, are tied for the 2nd worst record in the NBA, and currently have a 52% chance at landing a top-4 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Right where they should be, despite the organizations best efforts to win games.

It doesn’t get any easier tonight against a good Houston Rockets squad. Houston is also playing on the second night of a back-to-back, so we can call the rest factor nearly equal, however they have considerably more momentum after defeating the Denver Nuggets 115-101 last night. Oh well, losses help more than wins at this stage.

Prediction: Kings 122, Rockets 114.

With the Rockets we’re simply no match;
They should blow us away with dispatch.
Just three years ago
Their win total was low.
So from Vivek we need to detach!

Since Houston is so void of guards and have a ton on wings, could be possibly work out a deal to swap of our many guards in exchange for some of their many wings?

They need a point. It appears we have none of those either.

So, you are saying the Sacramento Kings are pointless?

Do you refer to their paltry offense or their current direction?

Dear Fandom,

We regret to inform you that we did not win the sportsball game last night. We thought we had Portland’s number, but Keegan’s evil twin released some sore of bizarro-world upside-down backward momentum that completely discombobulated our offensive output. We think the twins may have switched uniforms before the game to be cheeky, but we could not prove this while trying to follow them to the locker room and being denied while being accused of being a rabid, Shaka-wielding fan.
We cannot believe this is happening, especially against Portland. We still don’t understand why the city is even called Portland – how can you have a port on the land? What is this meaning? Anyway, to get to the point, we have no doubt this game should have been ours, and we should be in line for that play-in spot. Coming up tonight, we will see a better effort, a better game, and of course, we have the better players. We do not understand all this hater’s talk about Sengun being a player we should have picked – what has he accomplished? Besides, his name is too hard to pronounce. It would have never worked here is Sacramento. A goon, in a Kings uniform? Absolutely unheard of. The only goons we allow have been in the front office and we quickly rectified those mistakes. Remember – fail fast! We certainly can do that as evidenced by our 2-15 start to the game. We have no doubt; the way we came back against the juju-eyeball Blazers is the same way we will come back against the West Conference in the standings. Be prepared for your play-in tickets. Think about this when buying gifts for your Kings-loving family members.
See you tonight after the big win.

Sincerely,
Management

Wow, did you hear Kylie, Duece, and Mo? There’s a league-wide movement of teams that don’t have three stars and teams that just have a bunch of guys who play together! The Kings are part of this movement! Hallelujah! Here we stay! Most hilarious spin this season so far.

The only thing of importance on home game threads to me are:

Number of empty seats.
% of crowd chanting “Sell the team”

Nothing else matters. Need to make it so uncomfortable for the current owner he sells or moves team to Seattle with Sacto expansion guarantee. He has got to go, no matter what.

Pure Kangz to beat a good team, nothing has FULLY changed IMO, this tank will remain SOMEWHAT unintentional.
I almost wrote a comment before game yesterday that something was making me feel an unwanted win coming just when we get used to tank town.
Gotta win a few I suppose, hopefully back to our regularly scheduled tankathon after a break.
PS I no longer watch games, zero interest in what this team has to offer but TKH writers and comments gives me all the coverage I need.

it was a fluky win. Simple as that. Durant had an off game but the Rockets out performed the Kings in nearly every statistical caegory. The difference, IMO, were the free throws. The Kings shot 12 more attempts than the Rockets and were 13 above their season average. Funny how Kayte and co. don’t talk about free throw disparity when it benefits the Kings, eh?

Kings missed alot of free throws that would have won the game in regulation.

That was fun!

We still suck, but at least the team is trying hard on both ends.

So 2 of Perry’s dreadful offseason pickups, Schroder and Westbrook, finally helped the Kings win a game? It’s about time. These 2 pickups alone is one of the main reasons contributing to this team becoming unwatchable now, along with Doug chomping on his blue gum on the sidelines.
