Kings vs. Pistons: Stacking L’s

The Kings are, once again, riding a 4-game losing streak.
By | 35 Comments | Jan 25, 2026

Dec 23, 2025; Sacramento, California, USA; Sacramento Kings center Dylan Cardwell (32) is instructed by head coach Doug Christie during the fourth quarter against the Detroit Pistons at Golden 1 Center. Mandatory Credit: Sergio Estrada-Imagn Images

The Kings have lost 4-straight (Blazers, Heat, Raptors, Cavaliers) and find themselves in Detroit today for another tough matchup.

Who: Sacramento Kings (12-34) vs. Detroit Pistons (31-11)
Where: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, MI
When: 12:00 PM / 3:00 PM ET
Watch: NBCSCA / League Pass

I mentioned this on the latest episode of The Kings Herald Show, but the data keeps getting worse and thus, worth repeating: the 2025-26 Sacramento Kings current hold a .261 winning percentage – the worst of any season since Vivek Ranadive bought the team, and the 2nd worst since the franchise moved to Sacramento. The only Sacramento-era Kings squad that won at a lower rate were the 2008-09, Reggie Theus / Kenny Natt led dumpster fire.

Of course, the season isn’t over. These Kings will likely pick up more wins as the season winds down and the schedule gets easier, but it’s still a pretty embarrassing fact made considerably worse due to the age and cost of the roster. This is an expensive veteran squad. They shouldn’t be this bad, but the tank thanks them.

At 32-11, the Pistons hold the best record in the Eastern Conference, so I’m expect the winning percentage to look even worse in a few hours.

Unrelated but sort of related: here’s some highlights from Kingston Flemings 42-point night against Texas Tech to remind you why continuing to lose is what’s best for the organization right now.

Prediction: Kings 119, Pistons 104.

The Pistons are leading the East;
In the West we sit near the least.
With weather so frigid,
The whole team looks rigid.
Vivek’s reign must somehow be ceased!

Zach LaVine has been ruled out for today's Kings vs. Pistons game with low back soreness. Keegan Murray remains out with an ankle sprain.

I’m pretty sure the only team in the league that would be interested in an expensive loser like LaVine is Vivek.

You guys have it all wrong. The Kangz are sitting Lavine so that they can play Keon more and showcase him to the East teams for Cash Considerations and a protected 2nd round pick, leaving them room to sign…Ben Simmons to push for the play in.

Kangz playing 3D chess while the other 10 teams interested in Keon are playing basketball. Kings 3.14, baby! (What a bunch of morons)

Trading Keegan, while resting Lavine for the play-in push… probably.

I’ll go ahead and type it: Dylan Caldwell is exactly the type of player I have been pining over for this team, (in the vein of Isaiah Stewart, Tari Eason, Jonathan Isaac, etc..). Skillsets vary, but all lengthy, defensive-minded bigs who hustle.
I see no reason why the team should not give him every opportunity here.

Why is it called a tank?

A tank implies you’re good enough to win but trying to lose.

I am unconvinced it is a tank. Kings are not good enough to do so.

You are correct. Tanking is when you sit your stars, give big minutes to youth, and make trades for the future. As of today the Kangz are still actively trying to win. They are just so bad with one of the worst point differentials in the league with overpaid and old players. It truly is remarkable just how bad this team is. They have four former all-stars in the staring lineup and are in the running for worst record in the league. I can’t recall any team like this in recent memory.

Truly, think about it. How many teams are starting 4 former all-stars? And not just all-stars, because 3 of them have All-NBA awards and one was an MVP.

Not to over-simplify, but it has to be either awful roster construction with several high-usage players not playing team-ball or bad coaching. Or both.

Would be great egg on Vivek’s face if we’re in last place in the West at the all-star break.

I don’t think he can have egg on his face. His ego is so big and he is so delusional he does not hear, and dismisses any critique.

It’s worth noting that Kingston Flemings looks a lot like Devon Carter and, despite scoring 42, his team still lost. So, I think he’ll fit right in to the Kings’ future!

Man, I’ve watched Flemings & the Carter comp seems off the mark. Flemings can play the point, and is a capable passer with decent floor vision. I’ve never seen much of that from Carter, even in college.

I would have comped Carter’s style of play to Monk, and Fleming’s style to Fox. Then again, I know nothing.

Is Perry really promoting to create an echo chamber?

There will always be people that are quick to tell you why you can’t do something. While it may be painful at times, you must separate yourself from those that undermine your faith and confidence in what you can accomplish. Surround yourself with those that share your vision and purpose. It fosters encouragement that you will attain all that you have envisioned for yourself!

Good lord. “Don’t listen to anyone with a contrary opinion, so you never change, learn or grow.”

It’s a results-oriented business. Perry is certainly putting a lot of effort at creating a fog of meaningless aphorisms, but those that share Vivek’s vision and purpose need to get this team past 38 wins every year.

Vivek’s front office moves this offseason clearly indicate that he thought this would be a competitive team. It’s an almost unbelievable act of stupidity, given that this is one of the worst teams in the NBA. Well, except for all the other similarly amazing nonsense this franchise has done over the Vivek years.

comment image

That stupidity might actually allow the team to back into to draft a star this season and over the next few years, if they don’t screw it up chasing 30 wins at the trade deadline or after. Let’s be honest. That’s almost certainly what those that share Vivek’s vision and purpose are going to do.
