The Kings are in Utah to take on Lauri Markkanen and the Jazz tonight.
When: October 15th, 6:00 PM PT
Where: Delta Center, Salt Lake City, UT
TV: Streaming on Kings.com or the NBCS CA App
Radio: Sactown Sports 1140
The Kings have yet to win this preseason, and are coming off a very disappointing performance against the Portland Trail Blazers in which they lost badly despite playing their core players a majority of the minutes. The Kings have also shot the ball exceedingly poorly from distance so far this preseason, making just 25% of their total three point attempts. The Jazz are a relatively young rebuilding team, led by the 7’0 Finn Lauri Markkanen, but we’ll also likely see extended looks for rookies Cody Williams and Kyle Filipowski (the 10th and 32nd picks in the 2024 NBA Draft), as well as second year players Keyonte George and Taylor Hendricks.
The Kings will likely play a similar rotation as in their other preseason games. Trey Lyles, Orlando Robinson and Kevin Huerter remain out, although Huerter was just recently cleared for 5 on 5 and should be ready to go in time for the regular season. Jordan McLaughlin made his debut on Sunday and was one of the few Kings players who played pretty well, so I’ll be excited to see more of him tonight.
Game starts at 6:00 pm local time, let’s go Kings!
That loss to the Blazers—a pity!
Now this game’s in Salt Lake City.
Too bad talk of Lauri
Was just an Ainge story.
His fit here might have been pretty!
There is no stream available on Kings.com unless you have NBA LeaguePass and while NBC Sports CA shows it as available online but it’s only being aired in “regional” markets.
I’ve been watching it since tipoff on kings.com/live
Appreciate the tip, thanks!
When I first hit the “stream” link only the replay of the Blazers game was showing. I entered “Jazz” into the search box and clicked on the Kings vs Jazz choice.
One of these days, I’ll probably spring for the League Pass if I find I don’t have access to enough games.
Nice…I went back to Kings.com and the stream is now available.
When I tried to watch the stream earlier, I got a “This stream is blacked out in your area” message with a link to NBA LeaguePass.
This offensive rebounding stuff has been working like gangbusters
Defense has been awful, except for Keegan. Sabonis has been the Kings best player. Again the team is struggling with length. Kessler and Laurie are giving the Kings problems.
The Domas middie looks for real
8-15 vs. 4-16 from 3 at the half. This is becoming more than a trend.
Kings playing the ol’ rope-a-dope. They’re gonna lull teams to sleep with a 28% free throw pct in preseason, then BAM! 38% in regular season.
On the positive side, Keegan seems to have found his stroke—3 of 6 from the three point line so far.
I’m exhausted by Fox chucking 3s. Especially early in the shot clock.
Len needs to take 4-6 threes a game 🙂
So like, is anybody a little worried that the Kings can’t seem to hit a 3 or stop the other team from hitting 3’s? Feels problematic.
Is anybody NOT worried about it at the moment, I’m wondering.
The Kings are a play-in team yet again. It’s not the preseason losses that matter, it’s how the Kings are playing. It’s the demeanor. It’s the style. It stinks.
Yeah, this is on Mike Brown at the moment. The culture of the Kings is downright bad. Poor shot selection, continued insistence on trying to force the ball up through traffic in the key, one missed defensive assignment after another. This team looks every bit as bad as they during their most frustrating moments last year. The defense looks disjointed and is easily broken down on every single possession.
I agree. Plus, who coaches the best offense in NBA history, gets coach of the year, and says, you know what, we need to change the offense to play better defense?
The season has not yet begun.
Of course, I understand that. I was just hoping to see glimpses of a playoff team, particularly a defense that is beginning to put the clamps down. We’re still in the running for 82-0 at the moment.
McLaughlin is a thumbs up from me
Keegan looks primed for a career year
Keegan is about the only positive I’ve seen this preseason.
Monk must still be tired !
I’m bracing for a lot of close games, and with this, some disappointing losses this season (just like what we’re very close to seeing tonight and what we saw a lot last season).
There’s no way Fox hits three free throws if this challenge fails.
Hopefully this is just rust, however…
Keegan going 5-11 from 3 is encouraging. The Kings giving up 40% from 3 on a lot of wide open looks is super discouraging. MB played the starters way more than I thought he would in preseason.
Keyonte George looks like a player.
McLaughlin may turn out to be a really nice find.
The Kings really need the bench to get healthy fast.
Don’t love what I’ve seen the last two games. Kings look slow and fairly unathletic compared to the young Blazers and Jazz, two teams that are supposed to be at the very bottom of the West. The Kings need defensive length and versatility or an elite perimeter shooter. It seems Ellis and Fox will be very inconsistent from game to game from 3 then that leaves it all on Murray. As smooth as Demar is from midrange, the further out he shoots the jumper looks extremely awkward. Many questions and concerns remain before next Thursday. This team needs help I fear. Will see soon enough..
In 4 games, the Kings are 35-139 from 3P – 25.2%. Their opponents are 69-160 – 43.1%. I’m confident the offensive numbers will normalize, especially when Huerter and Lyles are back. I’m not so sure about the defense at the moment. The window to fix whatever ails them is getting tight.
I have been very critical of Monte’s offseason moves, not bringing in length and athleticism and having an imbalanced roster (no true PF). I also feel that DDR – while a good player – addresses very few of the core issues we had last season. Also not certain about Brown’s acumen after last season.
BUT these are only preseason games and tell us little. They do give Brown and the players an opportunity to correct matters.
I will start worrying when they play like this after a handful of regular season games.
I am a little worried especially when we can’t hit the 3 and our defense on the 3 isn’t very good. Last night Monk shouldn’t have played at all. Terrible night. DeRozan had 17 but missed so many midrange shots some on them wide open. Isn’t he supposed to hit those as they are his bread and butter? Murray looked good and can play defense. If it wasn’t for Sabonis another blowout. This just isn’t what I expected as a week away from regular season. If this is a trend then we are in a lot of trouble. Hope not. GO KINGS!
They also extended Brown this offseason, so if things don’t go well, I expect him to be the fall guy…which isn’t a good thing since they would still be paying him.
I really disliked his premature extension, after the step back last season.
But premature extensions are a Kangz special.
Didn’t catch this game, but sounds like more of the same. Hopefully they are working on some experimental stuff and now have the evidence showing it doesn’t work, and can go back to a normal looking defense and offense.
For the cap gurus out there, the kings now have 4 trade exceptions (Vezenkov 6.3m, Mitchell, 543k, Duarte, 5.89m, and McDaniels, 4.74m). What can they do with those based on their current cap situation?
I sincerely hope it’s not a veteran that is over the hill. That will not solve anything. Jae Crowder is not your answer. Neither is anyone left on free agency. Why are they still there? Either stay with what we have and HOPE for the best or put in on the line and get a player or players who will definitely help this team. Monty has the resources. Don’t waste them.
They are hard capped, so I don’t believe they can do too much.
So they have 4 TPEs they can’t really use. They didn’t use the MLE nor the BAE this season either?
I don’t think those TPEs were created to be used, they are just the leftover byproduct of Monte dumping salaries. They really aren’t all that useful. They can’t be split or combined into multiple players or salaries. They just allow the Kings to eat a salary at those numbers without sending anything back if they so choose.
Who are the Kings going to get for around $6M? That’s an end of the bench contract or a rookie deal (which would likely require a pick to be sent out)
And you are correct, the did not use their MLE or BAE. Monte went all in on re-signing Monk and acquiring DeRozan, which basically capped the team out. McLaughlin and Len were signed to vet minimum deals.
Thanks for the info. I guess time will tell if the assets/exceptions were used wisely.
All I know is if Fox not playing like his early year…(i.e. driving into the paint and settle for mid-range shots, and not settling for 3 pts shot)….we are not in good position.
Disjointed offense, forced passes, off balance and out of rhythm 3pt attempts, no plays leading to clean looks, many forced shots that have no business going in, good defense for 10 seconds followed by no defense allowing wide open looks from anywhere on the perimeter and not making free throws. Not fun to watch. I watched the entire game annoyed. Literally.
I am very worried. Yes it is only pre season and “it doesn’t matter”. I know that, I tell myself that every hour of the day I am awake. That said… They don’t look good. At all. This sucks.
