Clippers defeat Kings by 41

It didn't end until after 10 pm and it was terrible, but great for the tank
By | 33 Comments | Dec 30, 2025

Update: 10:45 pm

The Sacramento Kings lost the possession battle to the Los Angeles Clippers badly (19 turnovers to 4) and gave up 28 points off their turnovers. Sacramento had 1 steal. So almost no ball pressure and allowing the Clippers easy points off mistakes. The bad basketball ended well after 10 pm because of the 8 pm start time. So that was fun. In the end it was great for the tank though.

Nique Clifford finished with 18 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound and 1 block. Maxime Raynaud had another double double with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks. Keegan Murray returned and played 30 minutes and finished with 11 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block.

From Earlier Preview:

The Sacramento Kings are back in action against the Los Angeles Clippers tonight with an ungodly 11 PM ET tipoff. Sorry to my fellow east coast Kings fans, this is going to be a tough one.

Who: Sacramento Kings (8-24) vs. Los Angeles Clippers (10-21)
Where: Intuit Dome, Inglewood, CA
When: 8:00 PM PT / 11:00 PM ET
Watch: NBCSCA / League Pass

If there is a single NBA team having a more dysfunctional clusterf*** season than the Sacramento Kings, it’s the Los Angeles Clippers! Welcome to the mud.

Considering this is a relatively meaningless game of basketball, the biggest storyline heading into tonight is the return of Keegan Murray. Murray missed the last two games with a calf injury, and in his absence Keon Ellis was finally awarded a starting position. Keon played great in a win against the Mavericks, and pretty terrible in a loss to the Lakers, so we’ll see how Doug Christie manages the rotation tonight.

Personally I’d love to see Ellis remain with the starting unit and move Precious Achiuwa to the bench. I’m skeptical that this will be the case because the Kings appear obligated to bury Ellis on the bench whenever an opportunity presents itself, but one new wrinkle has supplied me with some hope: Dylan Cardwell is listed as out, meaning the Kings are lighter than normal in the frontcourt. Starting Keon and using Achiuwa as the primary reserve forward makes some sense, but we shall see.

Prediction: Kings 118, Clippers 109

The Clippers have been on a roll;
That’s not good if tanking’s their goal.
They’ve won four in a row,
Leaving us far below,
Meanwhile Vivek’s the one we should troll!

+1 I wonder if any of the young Kings will be tasked with guarding James Harden!

Man , I really hope Keegan is 100% and they aren’t rushing things. Why can’t they wait until he is 110% or 200%, or even 1200%? From my understanding, the bigger the number the better it is.

Should be Demar to the bench, his days are numbered anyway. Max/PA/Keeg/Keon/Russ would be a good starting lineup, esp for defense. Let Murray, Ellis & Max get alot of touches and develop. Would rather see this lineup, even if it’s a blowout. Will probably be a blowout regardless, so why not give minutes to the young guys.

Along with those three above I would like to see Clifford get more touches also. Maybe a little more of Devin Carter which IMO is also a good player. Not Doug’s for sure but at least give the guy more of a chance to prove himself. Can’t hurt.

Dear Fanbase,

We will enlighten you on a few things you do not un…. Wow! That Brook guy is one large man!.. But his face looks like a late 90’s video-game image pasted to his body. No matter! These Clippers of L.A. will easily succumb to our fast-breaking and pesky on-ball defense. We believe our guards watching their guards drive around us and into the lane is the basis of good on-ball defense. We look for this in players we acquire.
Why do these clippers have such a strange logo? Why is there a ship in the crosshairs? Don’t they know we are the team with targets on our backs? We are the franchise in the crosshairs? This pesky Balmer fellow will find out soon enough. We always hate him belittling us in the owners meetings. Laughing and shouting and touching us awkwardly and calling us “small-fry”. We don’t know why he is always clapping and cheering and stomping about near the court. It is agitating. Besides, we don’t like it when owners are so out-front and involved with their franchises. We prefer to keep our ownership model behind the scenes, making the tough personnel decisions: like which family member should run our G-league team, or which former Kings player should be responsible for the draft.
We have no doubt our players have embraced the 6 core principles; and tonight should be an easy victory against the lowliest of Pacific division opponents. Let us go now to plug in the power cord and start up the purple light show. It takes a bit to warm up now that it is not being used weekly.

Sincerely,
Management

Down 33 at halftime?

Time for the That escalated quickly-gif.

I love the new-found aggression on D, coach!

On a team full of veterans, your leading scorer at the half is your 2nd-round pick that couldn’t even see the floor a month ago?
I am sure hoping there will be some changes by the trade deadline.

You are enjoying it, otherwise you would turn down the volume.

Just like I am enjoying 28 minutes of garbage time, it seems.

I tuned in for 1/2 of the 3Q and listened to Kayte go on and on and on about whatever it is she’s making up on the spot.

It’s incredible. They so desperately need to walk her to the door.

Although true, they have bigger fish to fry. With or without Kayte, most Kings games are unwatchable.

The Broadcast is almost as boring as the team . Kayte is the only color analyst in the NBA that talks twice as much as the Play/ by Play . Probably three times as much !

I stopped watching after the third Kings possession, one of the more depressing bits of basketball I’ve seen this year:

  • DeRozan dribbles up the court after a rebound, passes to Achiuwa on the left wing
  • Achiuwa passes back to DeRozan on the top of the key
  • DeRozan is being guarded by James Harden, historically a lazy defender
  • Achiuwa is being guarded by Kris Dunn, a good defender
  • Achiuwa screens for DeRozan
  • The Clippers switch this, Dunn – the better defender – is now on DeRozan
  • Achiuwa half rolls towards the basket
  • DeRozan picks up his dribble to pass to Achiuwa, but doesn’t do so as Dunn is denying well
  • Achiuwa is now back on the left wing with Harden on him, and DeRozan passes him the ball
  • DeRozan goes to set an off-ball screen on Westbrook’s man, but doesn’t end up setting it as Westbrook shows no sign of wanting to move. They both end up watching Achiuwa
  • Achiuwa goes 1v1, misses a fadeaway jumper

What a shit show from top to bottom.

In my time as a coach both Westbrook and DeRozan would have been told before the season started they WILL NOT be ball hogs as this was the term used in those days. Basketball IMO is a game of movement on both sides of the court They knew better and if not hello bench. You need to have all five players involved at all times. I watch the Kings offense stagnate because all they do is watch Westbrook and DeRozan with the ball. Keegan Murray needs the ball more if he is to succeed. Not happening. I don’t know why Christie doesn’t understand this and fixes things. Is he afraid to tell those two because they are big players on the team. He is the coach or I thought he was.

Another thing. Before games I watch both benches. Over on the opponents bench players are giving the head coach and even some assistants high fives. As of lately I don’t see this happening on the King’s bench. All I see is Christie sitting in the middle of his coaches chewing his gum. Maybe it’s just me.

When writing the above this morning, I was in the midst of writing a paragraph about the coaching staff and how you could argue they should be sacked for the woeful way this team is playing. But what’s the point? The worst owner in NBA basketball is still calling the shots, the GM – despite some decent draft picks – seems to be mediocre at best and hired Christie without an interview, and the roster itself is dreadful. Sure, we can fire Christie, and I have no doubt this team would be marginally better off with most available coaches, but you still have a franchise that’s still rotten at the core.

Yes. Everything about this team is a joke because of the owner.

And I was so irritated that they picked up Westbrook and of course that they have DDR, because all Westbrook does is take the ball at a Keegan’s hands

It was the dumbest fucking signing ever. Shit doesn’t help with winning or help with developing other players on the floor. He., DDR, Levine-black holes

this owner continues to be the worst and the dumbest in the league.

Selltheteam, Vivek

This should be one of the big goals for the rest of the season. See what Keegan can do.

Is this just what he is? 3pt% history:

Iowa 20-21 – .296
Iowa 21-22 – .398
22-23 – .411
23-24 – .358
24-25 – .343
25-26 – .263

Are the 2 seasons the outlier? I sure hope not.

Well, let’s see… the owner personally chose the coach, the GM, and a significant portion of the roster. He’s been steering the team like a drunk airplane pilot for his entire tenure. The team is a direct reflection of its owner – which is why it looks like complete shit.

what can be done? The team is a fucking piece of shit as it is. This is all we have now it’s not even worth it.
