Kings vs Clippers Preview: LA-ja Vu

The Kings are back home and taking on a Clippers team they just beat three days ago...
By | 17 Comments | Dec 4, 2021

Well, this feel’s awfully familiar! The Kings are taking on the Clippers for a Saturday evening affair just a few days after blowing out the Clips for three quarters and then nearly giving the game away in the fourth! This time the Kings will have the distinct disadvantage of playing at the Golden 1 Center, where they’ve absolutely sucked the life from the eyes and voices of Kings fans everywhere nearly all season long. No seriously, at this point, the Kings are better off playing on the road than here in Sac and that’s exactly 0% on the fans of this franchise. For anyone who bought tickets to the game, Paul George might not play again tonight! YAY!

Let’s talk Kings basketball.

When: Saturday, December 3rd, 7:00 PM PST

Where: Golden 1 Center, Sacramento, CA

TV: NBCSCA – Mark Jones (play-by-play)

RadioKHTK Sports 1140 AM

For Your Consideration

Forget it Jake, It’s Sactown: I gotta be honest here. If I’d have written a more conventional preview 72 hours ago, I might have just tried to convince Greg to let me run the same preview again and see how many people noticed. In fact I still might do that. I mean, outside of the Kings handling their business in Los Angeles on Wednesday, how much has really changed? The Clippers still hold opponents to the 5th lowest amount of points and have the third best defensive rating in the league. They run at the 11th fastest pace, but are in the bottom third in the league in points per game. Paul George is doing everything he can to keep this team afloat without Kawhi Leonard and he’s doing so with Reggie Jackson as the second highest scoring player on the team. George said that he re-tweaked his ankle in the Clippers win over the Lakers yesterday and so, there’s a decent chance he will sit this one out too. The Clippers are pretty deep talent wise, with lots of “well of course the Kings let that dude go for 30 tonight” potential. Luke Kennard and Terrence Mann both went for 19 points off the bench on Wednesday and I wouldn’t be surprised to see either of those two blow up tonight in Sacramento.

Paul George or not, this will be the 5th game in 7 days for the Clippers. They’re a decent team in the middle of the pack of the Western Conference and if you take a look at the stats the Clippers put up and you can see why they’re still only a single game over .500.

Will, why can’t we talk about the game the other night? Well, do you really want to rehash the Kings being in complete control for three quarters, only to let the Clippers hang 39 in the fourth, getting every single Kings fans eyes to roll into the back of their heads as Sacramento nearly gave it away again? Tyrese Haliburton played 40 minutes and only scored 12 points. Davion Mitchell finally broke free for 20 points on 7-10 shooting, so that’s good. Am I missing anything else? Alright then! Happy Saturday everyone. Drink some tea, finish up whatever leftovers you’ve still got from Thanksgiving and enjoy your day! I’ll see you after for the postgame!

Prediction

Jay Scrubb is going for 50. Don’t ask me how or why, it just feels like the kind of game where we’ll all tweet “A Scrubb nearly beat the Kings single handedly!” and we will all think we’re clever. He will, however, not beat the Kings.

Kings: 111, Clippers: 103

It’s the Clips again, here not there.
Are there signs of Kings players who care?
With things looking so bleak,
Some strong effort, not weak.
Status quo still looks so hard to bear!

That is a critical and crucial decision that you’re making there, my angry and argumentative friend.

He is absolutely unlistenable, from the Stuart Scott of broadcasting, which revolves around a pre-written checklist of catchphrases and “clever” comments, and scratching every damned one of them off before the clock hits 0:00.

Jones is hacky as hell, and it seems like the consensus is that we’re lucky to have him. I’m all for Napear being gone, but there has been no improvement for the viewer, even when Jones actually deigns to call a game.

Like I said before, I miss homer Kings’ broadcasters. I want to feel the emotion from them. But Jones and Draper have zero allegiance to this franchise.

the kings have to be be 0-1284729 when Mark Jones calls the game. The ultimate commentator curse – basketball gods’ way of telling Mark Jones to actually watch the games
