Kings vs Bulls Preview: Just Hold On, We’re Chicagoing Home

The Bulls are still trying to recover from their recent tailspin and the Kings are out there still chasing their tails!
By | 10 Comments | Mar 14, 2022

Well the Kings are back home after sashaying their way out of Utah with the confidence that only another chance to donate to local Sac charities can bring the franchise. De’Aaron Fox scored 41 points of 47% shooting to best Donovan Mitchell’s 25 points but the Kings dun plum forgot about Jordan Clarkson – who scored a career high 45 points off the bench on a scorching 71.4% shooting from the field. No off night in sight for that man.

They don’t have time to complain or contemplate the past – the Bulls are in town and looking for a clean sweep of the team many have pinned as trying to copy their homework.

Let’s talk Kings basketball!

When: Saturday, March 14th, 7:00 PM PT

Where: Golden 1 Center, Sacramento, CA

TV: NBCSCA – Kyle Draper (play-by-play)

For Your Consideration

Ayo, Pay Attention: Man, I gotta say I’m really hoping that the Bulls can be completely healthy by the time the playoffs roll around. Sure their still going to win just around 50 games and finish with the best record they’ve had since Tom Thibodeau was tearing up their bodies and souls, but the Bulls are just one of those stoyline-centric teams this year that I want to see do well. Just go down the list: Zach Lavine finally having more help than he knows what to do with, DeMar DeRozan becoming a fringe MVP candidate after being roundly written off by many, Nikola Vucevic finally getting to win after years with a struggling Magic squad, Lonzo Ball emerging from the shadow of being a #2 pick in Los Angeles with a media-heavy dad, hell, even Alex Caruso getting undervalued by the Lakers only to come out and have a really, really nice season in Chicago… they’re mostly silly from the basketball side of things, but incredibly relevant to the entertainment side of the sport – which is where I as a viewer and consumer reside.

Now some of these guys should probably be ready to go before the post-season kicks off – Lavine’s knee isn’t right but he’s only questionable for playing in today’s contest. Lonzo on the other hand is a bit more iffy – he’s been out a little over seven weeks since his left knee surgery, with an original return being between 6-8 weeks from the original date. So, his return, while not tonight, should be imminent. 10ish games to get back into a rhythm and here’s hoping that Bulls squad get’s hot at the right time and makes a decent showing of an already fun first year back in relevancy.

As for something a little more Kings related: the comparison between what Monte’s trying to build on the fly in Sacramento and what Arturas Karnisovas has slapped together in Chicago is an interesting one. I don’t say that because I necessarily think it’s wrong either. Yeah the Kings are trying to quickly toss together talent and hope like hell it gels. Squint and see the Fox/Lavine comparisons, squint and see the Sabonis/Vucevic trade comps and yet… the Bulls are a massive market, one of the great franchises of all time from a history perspective and should always have been a draw… despite Gar Forman and John Paxson doing what they do best. They have a history and a draw and a population that the Kings don’t have and Karnisovas finally operating the Bulls as they should be operated has been in part because of that gap a small market team like the Kings just can’t replicate. It’s much easier to lure A and B tier free agents to a place like Chicago than it is to Sacramento and those are the guys that make the difference between the 11th seed and the 4th seed out East. Again, I’m not saying Monte can’t do it, and I’m certainly not accusing anyone of assuming the Kings have that draw, but it will be interesting to see how a Chicago-esque strategy works/fails in a small market as opposed to a massive one.

Complete sidenote/tangent to finish this thing out: I’m not much of a video games guy. I buy a big game every year or so when I’m hyped enough to do so and I purchase 2k every few years after I’ve gone 40 or so seasons with the same team in my previous build… but one thing I love to do is create silly challenges for myself in building my teams. My favorite one and one I’m currently playing through on the side, I call “The Bob Ross Challenge”.

The basic premise of this particular build is that I can only draft or trade for players that have last names that would coincide with something you’d see on a Bob Ross painting – so mostly colors and woodsy objects. So, for example, when I look at the Bulls roster, I can have Coby White on my team, or Javonte Green but I could also add Malcolm Hill… because well, Bob Ross painted the shit out of those hills.  Obviously there’s always a bench player or two that comes over in an exchange that I have to cut at season’s end or not play, but 95% of the Anchorage, Alaska Chill are fill with players that illicit the local scenery. De’Aaron Fox, Christian Wood, Miles Bridges, Austin Rivers, Khem Birch, Tacko Fall… Hell, I’ve even cheated a little bit with signing Damion Lee (the old English word for meadow), got some heat from my significant other over the cheapness of having Kyle Guy on my roster and had to really look at my rules and self-regulate when in came to not trading for Mister Richaun Holmes (homes), Harrison Barnes (barns) or Karl Anthony Towns (that might be for an easier Thomas Kincade challenge someday)… but it’s my challenge so I’ll do what I damn well please.

Anyways, the Bulls have a really little nice set of Bob Ross Challenge players and I had to point them out to you. That is all.

Prediction

Lonzo’s fine and he’s literally just been sitting out for 8 weeks terrified of his meeting Fox, especially during this recent tear he’s been on. Coby White puts on a shooting clinic for Jerry Reynolds and Sabonis returns after spending a few days with his new baby with a triple double, going for 21-16-12.

Kings: 126, Bulls: 118

Who gets their career high scoring mark tonight, Coby White, Javonte Green, or Alex Caruso?

This year the Bulls made a big leap—
Some down years, then top of the heap.
Of late lost a few though;
Just got back Caruso.
Perhaps this won’t be total bleep!

Lonzo Ball emerging from the shadow of being a #2 pick in Los Angeles with a media-heavy dad,

When did “media-heavy” become a synonym for ” exploitative, narcissistic asshole?”

If you’ve ever been tempted to call a player a stiff like a finely milled piece of timber which came from a pristine forest this could really open the doors for your questionable roster
