I thought his fouling would improve as he became acclimated to starting instead of being an energy guy. I was partially right so far but it does seem to have plateaued at a still problematic level.
I like Holmes, but there is a glut of bigs out there. I wouldn’t shut the door on him but I’d also make sure to take note of what the available options are
quickly becoming the identity of this years Kings team. If they’re hitting their shots, the games should be a high scoring back and forth battle. If they aren’t hitting them, they’ll get blown out while allowing opponents to score 120+ points
Obviously a fun quarter other than Lillard deep 3’s. Fox and Hield are hot. I’d like to make 1 observation…
Buddy’s team defense has really improved which has helped the Kings. He’s running on switches to contest 3’s and when the shot is up, he’s running to put a body for a board.
I’ve been really critical about Buddy’s defense but credit where credit is due…he has improved.
Only when compared to Jerry Reynolds, not when compared to his peers. Let’s stop pretending that most of the NBA announcing teams aren’t a dumpster fire. We had one of the best teams in the world for years, now we are regressing to the mean.
I’m gonna defend Doug here. He can be a little goofy but I do like his player’s perspective on things. He’s better with Mark Jones than he is with Kyle Draper.
LIke with any Kings lead, fully expecting the Blazers to erase this deficit rather quickly. It’ll come down to how the Kings respond and withstand the Blazers run
A lot of his assists look effortless. Kidd, Stockton and, dare one say it, Doncic come to mind in this regard. His ability to get players the ball where they want it is striking.
Did you all see that defensive stance buddy was in against cj?! That was a thing of beauty. If he’d only do that every time. Moved his feet amazingly. Cj will get his buckets, but he stayed right with him!
One difference between this game against the Blaze and the last game against the Blaze is the beginning of the 3rd, in the last game the Kings struggled to handle the physicality of the Blaze players. Tonight they have rolled with the bumps and pushes and thrived.
Bagley finally making some team basketball plays, showing a lot of effort. Buddy not boxing out on the rebound that gave Dame a 2nd try for the 3, which he made, of course, was very frustrating.
I’m coming to the side of keeping Barnes. His stats aren’t wowing today, but if he keeps playing this year like he is the last several games, he’s the perfect kind of veteran to provide good on court leadership for the younger players, while also throwing in a great game here and there. His contract actually might be a good one to keep.
Yes it’s absolutely ridiculous. I hope we prioritize defense and effort at the trade deadline/draft/offseason. I literally chalked that 43-33 first quarter up as a hidden loss because we gave up 33 points. I was right.
Weirdly, I feel like tonight they’re actually trying to be better individually. Buddy and Fox look like they’re giving a lot of effort, Dame and CJ are just great shooters and creative in finding ways to score.
Partially. I saw a breakdown by Steph about how he comes off screens. He said when he goes around the screen he grabs the screener’s calf to draw himself in as close as possible and cut off the defender.
Lillard is a first ballot HOF. Fox will never get there. That’s all. One has Mamba Mentality. The other happy just being a very good player with a Max deal.
The Lakers are so dialed in right now. Nets look good but losing Levert and Allen is going to hurt them defensively. I see chemistry issues their, especially with headcase, Kyrie.
They’ve had an easy schedule but that’s neither here or there because we all know how good they will be in the playoffs. I give the nets a chance because this is a superstar driven league and they have 2 plus one all star
This team’s ceiling is Sub .500. Maybe .500 if a bunch of teams sit players due to Covid. Kings will have to make moves. If they ever expect to rise to the next level. At a minimum, Kings need at least one star. Maybe Hali, once he starts getting 35 a night. But, In reality that star is not coming to Sac in free agency. Trade or draft are the only hope. Trades are going to be tough because of Walton. Kings desperately need a good pick this year.
I’m starting to like this Kyle Draper guy. After Kayte tries to get people to believe that the Kings can win games by outscoring their opponents like the 1980s Denver Nuggets, Draper brings Mitch into the conversation to shut the absurdity down.
Now, Kayte’s going on about how Lillard is a “great player”, C. J McCollum is a great player”, to excuse Fox, who just got a max deal, but apparently shouldn’t be subjected to the expectations that come with getting such a deal. We should just accept, I guess, that players like Dame are going to dominate him when the game is on the line.
Kings could have a 19 point lead with 6 minutes left in the game and I wouldn’t count out the Blazers. Fox and Buddy just simply cannot stop Dame and CJ. Hope we’re almost done with Kings Blazers games this season.
Now, the postgame show is moving on to praising Buddy despite the fact that he missed several critical shots down the stretch. Celebrating Hield and Fox for playing well except during the final critical minutes.
I knew when the Kings came out with 43 in the first. It was all downhill after that. Fox looked like he might go for 50. Then, I realized.. This is Fox’s game. Bi-Polar. He comes out in the second qtr with tunnel vision. He completely forgot his play in the first qtr. He played well in the third. Then was mediocre in the 4th.
A contender just became a bottom feeder. I don’t if it’s good or bad? More competition for a top pick, oR less competition for a playoff spot?
Are we really sure that Houston got worse? Oladipo seems like a great fit next to Wall, certainly better than a fat and disinterested Harden.
Defense….go Kings!
Payback time!
Holmes gets a foul in 15 seconds
I thought his fouling would improve as he became acclimated to starting instead of being an energy guy. I was partially right so far but it does seem to have plateaued at a still problematic level.
Pay Holmes.
I like Holmes, but there is a glut of bigs out there. I wouldn’t shut the door on him but I’d also make sure to take note of what the available options are
If this reduces the Sacramento tax I am all for it,but lock up Holmes long term please.
It is a back and forth game thus far, no defense at all.
quickly becoming the identity of this years Kings team. If they’re hitting their shots, the games should be a high scoring back and forth battle. If they aren’t hitting them, they’ll get blown out while allowing opponents to score 120+ points
Kings need to step up the defense or this is going to be over by the 3rd qtr.
Every missed kings field goal is not halfway down…
Hali is just so smooth with his shooting
I just cannot get over how good Haliburton is!
breaks my heart to see Harry Giles in another uniform.
He still makes mental mistakes, but the effort is there.
Great basketball. Came out to play.
Haliburton just does not miss
….as soon as I type that he misses.
Lmao Doug really said “Hali….berry nice” after his latest 3PT
Did referee Leon Wood just help Haliburton off the floor?
THE FIX IS IN!!!
Superstars get better treatment.
Whiteside with the Volleyball block!
I’m not hating this at all!
Doug Christie is the bad dream we just can’t wake up from.
He is better than a lot of announcers. At least he had Jerry Reynolds to learn from.
He’s so bad. Let’s stop pretending.
Only when compared to Jerry Reynolds, not when compared to his peers. Let’s stop pretending that most of the NBA announcing teams aren’t a dumpster fire. We had one of the best teams in the world for years, now we are regressing to the mean.
“He’s not as bad as some really terrible announcers.” Thanks for backing me up, L. ð
I…. yeah…fair enough…but clearly there isn’t a lot of quality available. I mean, Mark Jackson still has a job for goodness sake.
I think Doug Christie is a good commentator. I like his enthusiasm, and the way he sees the game.
I’m gonna defend Doug here. He can be a little goofy but I do like his player’s perspective on things. He’s better with Mark Jones than he is with Kyle Draper.
I love these hot starts for the Kings. I like to imagine they’ll continue for three more quarters and the Kings will set scoring records.
CoJo minutes always irritate me
Buddy has found his shot last couple of games
Buddy’s feeling it tonight.
I’m going to attempt to watch the whole game and remain calm when/if the blazers mount a comeback.
I hate this shit.
Haliburton just makes things happen…what a gift we got in him.
Bagley’s right hand makes an appearance
Tyrese Haliburton is a joy to watch
I recognize the Blazers but who is the team in the purple-y jerseys?
Nevermind. I recognize them. It’s the Kangz!
Excellent ball movement and the Kings are hitting everything
Bags with a defensive stop!!!
Hereeeeeeeeee they come
LIke with any Kings lead, fully expecting the Blazers to erase this deficit rather quickly. It’ll come down to how the Kings respond and withstand the Blazers run
A couple of weeks ago, I half jokingly suggested that the Kings focus on letting Haliburton feed Bagley the ball. It seems to be working well.
A couple dice dimes there
Nice dimes
A lot of his assists look effortless. Kidd, Stockton and, dare one say it, Doncic come to mind in this regard. His ability to get players the ball where they want it is striking.
they gonna blow the whole 20 point lead in the same quarter? lol
We practiced this move against the Raptors I think.
Haliburton has 6 assists in 13 minute
More than Bagley has gotten for his entire career.
Hard to believe someone down voted this
This is the best backcourt in the nba
I mean, I like Fox and Buddy, but……
I meant dame and CJ
I know. My sarcasm didn’t come through!
I literally just said this on the Blazer’s Edge. lol
Nurkic is like a fullback out here. Glad they finally called the moving screen. That’s like his 3rd one
How in the heck did that go in?
Some rough minutes from Fox since returning in the 2nd quarter
Kings have gone cold…
Can we run a set on offense?
Hali 🙂
My Hero.
Such a dumb move with the backcourt pressure
Welp. We got a quarter of good basketball.
Let’s get that cornbread back
Fing kangs!
We going to lose by 24
It’s ok, we’ll do well in the third quarter!
Look at Kosta with the purple badge trifecta!
I want a purple badge trifecta.
It’s a contract year!
At least Demarcus Cousins isn’t here.
He had some pretty salty comments on Harden and I agreed with him completely.
I wish we had dearest DeMarcus
Fox needs to share the ball more, be a facilitator.
FLOP!
Wow, 4 team fouls for the Blazers already in the 3rd. Kings gotta keep attacking and take advantage of this
Did you all see that defensive stance buddy was in against cj?! That was a thing of beauty. If he’d only do that every time. Moved his feet amazingly. Cj will get his buckets, but he stayed right with him!
Give credit to Buddy, that was some good effort on his part, played it pretty much perfectly. CJ just made a great shot.
I didn’t think they would come back…but great run due to defense..
Buddy of old tonight.
Fox is a bad man out there tonight.
Buddy Back?
What a treat when Buddy gets his feet set. His percentage must go up 20 points when he’s set and square.
Fox, Buddy and Hali combined 13-18 from three. Meeeowwww
Bagley having a good game and doing some of the small non-stat things well.
Good to see. Even drew a charge.
Turn the sprinkler systems on
Bagely’s most impactful game when it comes to winning bball. Wow
Bags, in my eyes, is playing his best stretch of his career
Did I just see Haliburton with his leg wrapped up?
bit Worrisome!
One difference between this game against the Blaze and the last game against the Blaze is the beginning of the 3rd, in the last game the Kings struggled to handle the physicality of the Blaze players. Tonight they have rolled with the bumps and pushes and thrived.
Having a hard time time hating Marv as much tonite.
Damn those Blazers, refuse to go away.
Bagley finally making some team basketball plays, showing a lot of effort. Buddy not boxing out on the rebound that gave Dame a 2nd try for the 3, which he made, of course, was very frustrating.
use your timeouts Luke
The last 2?
no just one at a time
sheesh everytime they build the lead back up to 18 it evaporates back down to 4-6 in 2 minutes
Metu is in!
Metu!
Fox reverting to his old tunnel vision problems.
anytime Doug says something positive it means something bad is about to happen
Blazers a WC finalist ram, going to have to beat them to win, they aren’t going to run and hide and give the game away.
*team
A WC finalist Ram would also be an issue.
True that.
Thank you GR, needed that 3.
Metu, that’s why you don’t play. That fool needs to get that one back
That was stupid but I blame the guards too for just standing there. No one came to the ball.
Where’s Holmes?
Apparently the Kings will win some games this year but won’t win any comfortably. For whatever reason when they get a big lead, all hell breaks loose.
We give up so many threes
and lots of easy layups and dunks
And now they trail
Ok, enough cojo.
This 4 guard lineup with Metu blows.
Buddy steal!
Get Cojo out! Jesus!
Get Barnes in!
I’m trying to figure out what the refs are seeing tonight. Some ticky tak fouls followed by players just whacking each other the next possession.
Nurkic and Kanter…wow.
Buddy’s passing better than Fox.
Barnes off tonight..
We were up 20 pts in the 1st half and up 19 in the third, so we could have been up 40 in the game and still lost.WTH
So sick of this shit
I’m not sure that’s how it works ð
you know, you’ve got to expect some slippage
Haliburton makes an impact the moment he steps on the court every time goddamn. Steal leads to an easy dunk for Fox to retake the lead
We’re screwed
3 guard lineup again, no MB3.
These refs are garbage.
This team is basically the George Karl Kings. Absolutely dreadful defensively but will win some games from outscoring teams here and there
As evidenced by giving up 30+ points in the first quarter and scoring 40+
Kings held separate 20 point and 19 point leads throughout the game and will still end up losing while allowing 130+ points.
Yes it’s absolutely ridiculous. I hope we prioritize defense and effort at the trade deadline/draft/offseason. I literally chalked that 43-33 first quarter up as a hidden loss because we gave up 33 points. I was right.
Fun fact: In Karl’s one full season, the Kings were 22nd in defensive rating in the league. They are dead last currently.
I still can’t believe Walton ran Metu with 4 guards.
We would get swept by the blazers 8-0 if we played them in the playoffs
8-0?
Yea in a best of 15
Why are we so bad defensively. Is it individual play? Scheme? Both?
Lot of bad defenders up and down the roster. Buddy, Fox, Bagley, CoJo, Bjelica
Weirdly, I feel like tonight they’re actually trying to be better individually. Buddy and Fox look like they’re giving a lot of effort, Dame and CJ are just great shooters and creative in finding ways to score.
Kings have allowed 120+ points in 6 straight games now.
I can’t believe I’m going to say this…maybe we could have used Bagley in the forth.
Dipshit Walton got fancy and ran Metu with 4 guards instead of returning to the starters.
Our screens have a lot to be desired, I used to blame the big men but I’m starting to thinks it’s also on our guards
Partially. I saw a breakdown by Steph about how he comes off screens. He said when he goes around the screen he grabs the screener’s calf to draw himself in as close as possible and cut off the defender.
Just can’t get the rebound when needed
welp
Dame finna ice this shit
Barnes just missed a point blank layup to make it a 2 point game and that’ll do it.
Walton stuck with this lineup for too long.
Well that sucks. Winnable game. 20 point and later 19 point leads wiped out. Great performance by our Fox and Buddy, just not enough.
Buddy went from hitting every 3 to missing every 3 in that 4th quarter
Buddy?! He’s not even a friend anymore
Fire Walton
NOW!!
Playoff teams execute and exploit the mistakes of their opponents down the stretch. Non-playoff teams do the opposite. So Portland won this game.
As an aside, hearing Doug sugar coat Dame blowing by Fox for a critical layup, “I love that he stayed with Lillard”, was really annoying.
Dame gave Fox a lesson on what a great PG does. Fox played really well, but doesn’t have that drive, that killer instinct that Lillard does.
Lillard is a first ballot HOF. Fox will never get there. That’s all. One has Mamba Mentality. The other happy just being a very good player with a Max deal.
Sadly, this is true unless Fox proves otherwise.
At least were just once game from worst record in the West.
Good game.
Blazers won’t get far in the playoffs, until they start playing D either.
Nobody’s beating the Lakers except for maybe the nets now with all three
The Lakers are so dialed in right now.
Walton’s time outs are terrible.
He was too busy watching Pacers film.
Yeah he needed to call one when the Blazers cut that last lead in the third. Walton is TERRIBLE AT EVERYTHING
If we’re gonna lose, at least lose with Bagley down the stretch.
Mitch is more and more baked with each passing game.
I don’t blame him! What a sweet gig!
We need a good coach first. That would be my priority. But considering Walton coached the Warriors me thinks Vivek has the warm and fuzzies for him.
“Katie, let’s keep it real.”
Kayte is nothing but a cheerleader when it comes to the Kings. Her commentary is usually hilarious.
Draper: “Buddy took 18 3s”
Kayte: “In Buddy’s defense . . . ”
Working the postgame show looks like a tough gig.
Well, they have to raise his trade value somehow. Hoping the other teams are listening.
This is going to come down to the last 2 minutes isn’t it
