The Kings have had a relatively quiet free agency, especially when it’s come to filling in the gaping hole that is the Small Forward position. However, they do seem to be trying to address the issue with some minor signings, such as getting Wenyen Gabriel to a two-way contract.
Today, the Kings added yet another signing, as ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Kings have signed Jamel Artis to a training camp deal.
Free agent forward Jamel Artis has agreed to a two-year deal with the Sacramento Kings, league sources tell ESPN. Artis played 15 games with Orlando a season ago. He'll compete in training camp to make team and add depth to small forward spot.

Don’t get too hung up on that “two-year deal” part. Many teams sign training camp players to multi-year deals that are either fully unguaranteed or are guaranteed just for the time a player is with the team before the season. The Kings did it themselves a few years back with David Stockton and others.
Artis played 15 games with the Magic last year, averaging 5.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists on 39.2% from the field as one of their two-way players. He went undrafted out of the University of Pittsburgh where he spent four years, culminating in a career-high 18.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists on 47.5% from the field and 39.2% from three.
The Kings need depth at the wing and are hoping they can find a diamond in the rough. Artis has a tough road ahead of him, but it’s good to have the extra competition and we’ll see if he ends up competing for that final roster spot or the other two-way slot the Kings still have available.
