Kings announced updates to Basketball Operations

With the 2025-26 NBA season around the corner, the Kings have announced their latest additions to the front office.

The 2025-26 NBA season is just around the corner, and Kings media day is happening today.  In preparation for that, the Kings have announced some new hires for the front office, with Scott Perry bringing over several people from his time in New York.

Here’s the full press release from the Kings:

Tom Perry joins Sacramento as the Vice President of Data Science & Planning following his time as Director of Basketball Products & Insights at the New York Knicks from May 2021 to May 2025. Previously, he spent time with the Oklahoma City Thunder as the Director of Science & Solutions from Jan. 2016 to May 2021. Perry holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategy from the University of Oxford, a Master of Science in Computationial Science from Georgia Tech, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Brigham Young University.

Chip Schaefer returns to the Kings as Senior Director, Performance and brings over 30 years of NBA experience, most recently serving as Director of Performance Health with the Chicago Bulls from 2016-24. He spent three seasons with Sacramento as the team’s Director of Sports Performance (2013-16), 12 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers as Director of Athletic Performance (1999-2011) and eight seasons in his first stint with Chicago as head trainer (1990-98). Schaefer was a part of 11 NBA Championship teams (six with Chicago, five with Los Angeles) and also worked in the collegiate ranks at the University of California, Santa Barbara (2011-13) and Loyola Marymount (1987-90). He received his B.A. in exercise science and sports medicine from the University of Utah in 1983 and later earned his master’s degree in counseling from Loyola Marymount. During the interim, he acted as head trainer for the U.S. Men’s Ski Team from 1984-86. Schaefer received his doctorate of health science from AT Still University.

Fred Cofield has been named Director, Pro Player Personnel after spending nine seasons with the New York Knicks. During his time in New York, Cofield served as a scout from 2017-20 and 2023-25 while also working as Assistant to the General Manager for three seasons (2020-23). He was originally selected in the fourth round (73rd overall) of the 1985 NBA Draft by the Knicks, appearing in 45 games during the 1985-86 season. Cofield also played for the Chicago Bulls in 1986-87 and in the CBA from 1986-93, earning All-CBA Second Team honors in 1988.

John Halas joins the Kings as Director, College Scouting following seven seasons as a scout for the New York Knicks. Halas also spent five seasons with the Orlando Magic as a Special Assistant to the General Manager (2012-14) and Scouting Coordinator (2014-17). He played for the men’s basketball team at Trinity College from 2001-05 and was a four-year starter and two-time team captain. Halas earned his master’s degree in sport management from UMass Amherst in 2011.

D.J. Ham enters his first season with the Kings as Head of Player Development after serving as a video assistant/player development coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2024-25 season. Ham previously served as an assistant coach and the Director of Player Development for the Cleveland Charge, the Cavaliers G League affiliate. Prior to his time in Cleveland, he was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Northwood University. After completing his four-year collegiate career with the Timberwolves, Ham played professionally in a Germany for a year before beginning his coaching career in the high school and collegiate ranks.

Ralik Wise comes to Sacramento’s coaching staff as an assistant video coordinator succeeding his role as a player development coach with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2024-25 season. He joined the Lakers as an assistant video coordinator ahead of the 2023-24 season following two seasons as a video assistant with the Atlanta Hawks (2021-23). Wise served as an assistant coach at Rosemont College after graduating from East Stroudsburg where he played two seasons from 2016-18.

Ernie DeLosAngeles rejoins the Kings organization as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, previously serving as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Sacramento’s G League affiliate, the Reno Bighorns (2017-18) and Stockon Kings (2018-20).DeLosAngeles spent the 2024-25 season as a Performance Coach/Sports Scientist with the Golden State Warriors. He also worked for the NBA G League Ignite as Head Performance Coach from Sept. 2020-2024 and then as Director of Performance from Aug. 2022 to Sept. 2024.DeLosAngeles earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training in 2014 from the University of the Pacific and received a master’s degree in sports performance from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in 2016.

The Kings also announced the following staff additions: Will Chapman (Pro/Advance Scout), Chris Efretuei (Coaching Associate), Daniel Hixon (Scouting Assistant), Ryan Joerger (Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach), Jordi Alfonso Jiménez (International Scout), Jack Moletteire (Basketball Software Engineer), Micayla Rossi (Basketball Communications Coordinator).

The Kings also announced a new jersey advertising sponsor with Phoong Law.  As part of the sponsorship, the team announced that a portion of jersey sales during the season will benefit Single Mom Strong, Inc., an organization dedicated to empowering single moms and their children, as well as My Sister’s House, a Sacramento nonprofit providing critical services to women and children impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. 

Training camp starts tomorrow and we’ll have more from Media Day later.

I was about to joke that if it were the Maloofs still running things, the jersey sponsors likely would have been Aladdin Bail Bonds or Goldies Boutique. Thank god they never had the opportunity to sell ad space on jerseys.
