Keegan Murray has passed Donovan Mitchell for the NBA rookie record for three pointers made in a season. In the third quarter of tonight’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Keegan made his 188th three-pointer of the season.
From the Kings:
Murray, 22, is the first player in franchise history to hold the All-Time NBA Rookie 3-Point record and is one of six players to record 180 3-pointers or more within a single season in franchise history. He currently ranks ninth in franchise history for made 3s in a season.
Murray currently ranks 11th in the NBA in 3-point field goal percentage of players who shoot more than six 3-point field goals per game. Among NBA rookies, Murray ranks third in 3-point shooting percentage (40.7%) and sixth in both scoring average (11.9) and total points (883).
What makes this record so incredible is not just Keegan’s skill and efficiency, but the way he’s done it. Murray isn’t the featured option on a bad team like most standout rookies. He’s generally the fourth or fifth option in the Kings offense, and is taking these shots within the flow of the offense of a very successful team. It’s really incredible.
Kings GM Monte McNair also weighed in on the momentous occasion:

Congratulations Keegan!
I’m happy for him.. I have been on the Keegan train and so happy we got him
So many of his shots, when he lets them go, don’t they seem inevitable?
Now let’s go for 200!!!
Put that record out of reach for a while!
&ct=g
Now go get Kris
He’s had a really good year. I’m excited for his future!
Special player Keegan is. TBH, the 3’s all kinda blend together. And that just speaks to the year he’s having overall.
Congrats young man. Now go for 200+.
Just super impressive stuff by Murray.
I expected him to be a good rookie, but did not expect him to be elite at something in his first year. Hats off to him. I’m really excited to see him add to his game; he has all the tools and the right personality to continue his development. Sky is the limit for him.
Loved the little touch of a smile after the record bucket went in.
And I loved the way he went straight to work defensively!
I even saw him smile a little after he hit it.
More like Threegan Murray, amirite?

Loved the hint of a smile when he hit it. I was pretty much the Leo D meme when I saw it.
About the most important thing for any special rookie is to identify/demonstrate a truly elite skill. With Keegan we know what that elite skill is… but as others have said, the sky is the limit.
His ability to navigate closeouts, be a plus defender, become a playmaker and be a solid rebounder is what’ll differentiate him from just an amazing shooter to a potential all star.
“Three point!”
“RECORD!”
I too hear Scott Moak’s drawing out “Keeegannnn Murray” each time I watch Murray hit a three. Even when watching the game without sound.
I’ve even started saying it to myself when I hit a clean shot of laundry into the hamper.
