Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray will miss 4-6 weeks with a left thumb injury that requires surgery. The injury happened during Friday’s preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Kings sent out the following medical update Sunday:
“Forward Keegan Murray left the Kings preseason game versus the Portland Trail Blazers in the second quarter with a left thumb injury. An MRI revealed a torn ulnar collateral ligament of the left thumb. Murray will undergo surgery and be reevaluated in approximately 4-6 weeks.”
The Kings don’t exactly have a lot of strong depth at the small forward and power forward spots, and this doesn’t help Doug Christie’s hope this team improves on defense. However, this could mean more minutes for rookie Nique Clifford.

Did all our wings just get thumb surgery?
Our wings are clipped!
I guess the team will just have to wing it then.
Likely we’ll be twiddling our thumbs.
Not to worry. Perry is on it! Westbrook will be here to save us soon.
So Dario Saric is now the starting PF? LOL, this is the consequence of piss poor roster building.
They just need to have Max play with Domas. See what it looks like.
Bummer that Keegan is hurt to start the season.
You know this stupid organization will use that as justification for why the team sucks instead of admitting that this is a terribly built roster with no future. I guess on the bright side they’ll be forced to have a bad record because they’re too stupid and shortsighted to tank.
Doug McDermott, you’re our only hope!
Isaac Jones, Nique, Doug, DDR, Saric??? Is there a more uninspiring list of SF/PF options in the NBA?
To answer your question…
No
Hello darkness my old friend.
Does it really matter? This is classic a 32-win team on a good day. So now they get off to an even slower start and win 30 games? Who cares. Team is trash and I’m hate watching this mess regardless of who is and isn’t injured.
“It doesn’t really matter, it’s not going to make anybody feel any better.”
Next guard up . Nothing like being prepared for injuries .
Which guard do we play out of position?
… and the hits just keep on coming….
It’s ok, we have Lyles and Laravia as back ups…wait…
Oh goodie, now we can really chase Ben Simmons. Or how about a trip through memory lane with Kessler Edwards, Jae Crowder, or James Johnson. Maybe follow Shaq’s man crush Bol Bol? One of the Morris twins available? Dumpster dive, anyone?
Get well soon Keegan. Maybe you can talk the Blazers into trading us your brother as a stop gap(year).
I hope we just play Max next to Sabonis. Hopefully, he can hold that spot and let Keegan take over the 3 when he gets back. Knowing the Kings, though, we’ll probably go sign Ben or start DeRozan at the 4.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the plan was to have Maxime start the year in Stockton. I get the need for development, but throwing him to the wolves may not be good either. Starting a guy you drafted in the mid 2nd round over guys you just added to the roster smells of desperation….but maybe that’s what this team needs.
Desperation, you say…
AnybodyButBagley.
Its amazing that the players we acquired for trading the no. 2 pick (Josh Jackson, Lyles, and Divincenzo) never became a future bargaining chip themselves. What a frickin waste.
So, I REALLY hate this for Keegan. I imagine he was in negations for his extension. That’s likely tabled. He’s now headed for RFA next summer. This injury could very well cost him a lot of money if it takes him time to recover and reintegrate.
From a selfish Kings fan perspective, they may be a good thing come next summer (think Curry signing a very cheap second contract due to injury and not yet becoming one of the best players to ever play). This may depress Keegan as an asset and hopefully the Kings can keep him long term on a relatively cheaper deal.
Now for this season’s perspective. IMO, this is a nail in the coffin kind of injury to the season. The first 25% of the schedule is absolutely brutal. It’s now a gauntlet with Keegan out. Hopefully this expedites the reality of this flawed roster being blown up.
All signs point to blowing it up. The Universe is sending a message, but the Kings aren’t interested.
They should have done it this offseason, but here we are. They’ll make some signing to try and jog their way through the schedule until Keegan is back.
They are going to trade Keon to Houston for Jeff Green. It’s the most Kangz move imaginable, so it’s bound to be true.
Kuzma: I am…inevitable.
THIS.
I just don’t know how they get Kuzma at this point. Need the salary matching of maybe DDR (unlikely), Monk (maybe), or some combination of spare parts to get to $20m ish. I’m sure Vivek will find a way to make it happen.
I still feel DDR for Kuzma feels like the most likely and desperate move by both the Bucks and Kings. Bucks do it to pacify Giannis, Kings do it to get bigger and because…INEVITABLE.
I could squint and see a lineup of Dennis, Keon, LaVine, Kuzma, Sabonis being the stopgap until Keegan returns, then everyone slides back down and Keon returns to the bench.
Roster balance wise it doesn’t seem like the worst idea…but still it’s Kuzma. If Kuzma came with a pick or young dude, then sure. Either way, yhe Kings are going to be bad
It’s OK. We’re trading for Tari Eason. And if you don’t believe it, you don’t know Jack!
Until he signs and it is witnessed, Eason’s absence will be labelled a public notary.
Notary

No Tari
This is the perfect response to Rob. Bravo
I see what you did there.
Jack agrees. Let’s get it done.
Just wait until day before season opener and then sign Jae Crowder and start him.
I know you are joking but there is truly a non-zero chance of that, or something similar, happening.
So, what’s everyone around here doing next year?
Watching the Pacers and Spurs?
The craziest thing about this setback is that the Kings now only have 1 big on the roster with recent significant (more than 15 minutes a game) NBA experience.
Pioneering small-all-ball.
Domas is like half of a center who would work best with someone like JJJ next to him but instead we’re going to be putting a guard there. It’s certainly going to be interesting for us sickos but people looking for good basketball may want to avert their gaze
Woo hoo!! 4-guard lineups, here we come!! Now we can for sure leave Sabonis in the backcourt and play Vivek’s cherry-picking offense!! </s>
My apathy now has apathy. If it wasn’t for my kids being excited to go to a game this season I’d have zero reasons to tune in.
I’d be more apathetic if I weren’t so lethargic.
This moment goes to show how shitty I feel as a fan. Spock is my favorite player on the team.
I googled “the kings herald”
I clicked on the link that results in that search.
the page opened to Keegan missing 4-6 weeks
and…
I’m happy about it.
I don’t even know how that makes sense exactly. I will now try to explain these emotions:
#1.) I’m happy that Spock doesn’t have to participate in this shit show. He can play the role of the most important player on this roster as he returns. I think that might actually be good for him?
#2.) out of principle I want to see this team fail. With how this management and ownership has let down this fan base I would like to see them suffer the consequences of their stupidity
#3.) Clifford will get more minutes. Maybe max will get more minutes
#4.) now it will be harder to fire Doug and put the blame on him when this shit team plays like shit (disappointing everyone, surprising only Vivek)
Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
