Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray has been chosen as a member of the Team USA Select Team, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. The Select Team scrimmages against the team that will go to the FIBA World Cup, and can be selected as replacements should there be any openings due to injuries.

Others joining the Select Team include Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Cade Cunningham, and Jalen Green.
The FIBA World Cup generally doesn’t draw the top stars to the Team USA roster, but is often used as a proving ground of sorts for the next tier of up-and-coming stars. Notable names on this year’s squad include Paolo Banchero, Tyrese Haliburton, Mikal Bridges, Austin Reaves, and Anthony Edwards.
It’s a nice bit of recognition to be chosen as part of the Select Team, and a great opportunity for Keegan to gain additional experience against some of the league’s best young stars.

He’s low key in personality and also his perception around the talking heads who never seem to recognize Keegan’s accomplishments, especially how good he looked in summer league. The few pods I’ve listened to discussing the three summer leagues made no mention of Keegan.
I think my nickname for Keegan will be “Upside.” Kid keeps going upside everyone’s head.

I was just explaining the “Spock” nickname to my wife and that Keegan is supposed to assert himself more this season, and she came out with. “Oh, so more ‘Kirk’!”

This is GREAT. I was actually curious if we might be getting this update because Keegan is starting to look more and more like a real guy. So far this offseason he is checking absolutely every box on the “this guy might be ready for a little leap” scorecard.
Totally correct. He was pretty good last season too. He set himself a high bar for improvement, and looks ready to clear it easily!
