Grizzlies 107, Kings 106: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Welcome to post-hope basketball where the rules are made up and the points don't matter. But just in case you care, the Grizzlies scored more of them than the Kings.

Sacramento’s two day excursion to Tennessee ended in disappointing fashion, as the Kings dropped their second game in a row to the Grizzlies, losing 107 to 106.  Sacramento had a chance to win it in the end, but Terence Davis’ last minute three point attempt missed the mark.

With Sacramento being eliminated from play-in contention after the first matchup and the Grizzlies facing the Warriors to see who gets the 8th seed on Sunday, Memphis evened the odds for their second go-around against Sacramento.  The Grizzlies benched their entire starting lineup as reserve battled reserve.  Justise Winslow led the way for Memphis with 24 points, while recent signee Louis King led the way for Sacramento with a game and career-high 27 points.

With no real stakes for either team, this was a glorified scrimmage.  Justin James followed up his career-high performance from Thursday night with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal, although he also had 4 turnovers.  Damian Jones had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Chimezie Metu added 15 points of his own.

Rookie Jahmi’us Ramsey played almost 30 minutes, the most extended run he’s seen all season, but only scored 10 points on 3-12 shooting, including 2 for 7 from downtown.  The Kings as a team shot an abysmal 10-42 from downtown and only 38.5% from the field, which isn’t too surprising given that most of these guys have barely seen time on the court this season.

Sacramento has one more game left on the docket before the 2020-21 season can officially be put in the books, as they return home to face the Utah Jazz on Sunday.

I am really impressed with Louis King, and as mentioned in post-game thread last game…
He looks like a definite keeper.

The above play is not easy..after the steal, fell down to the ground, keep the dribble alive, push the ball, drive into the lane, and dishes out to a wide open Davis.

Nice fake, can drive and kick out the ball, finding open teammate

comment image
Nice stroke for 3…and shoot with confidence..

p.s. Give some credit to McNair, he is finding some gems for the team…(Davis, Metu, and now Louis King)

King wants to play and it shows. Can he play in a game that involves NBA starting talent?

Kangz often fall in love with Players in junk games against the junk players in the league.

C’mon man. The guy played. That was what people desired before this game, play the young guys and take a look at them.

The guy played great on the game that supposed to showcase them. Let him have it, let us have it, it’s good to have it than all the rubbish.

He did play very well and I think that should be appreciated.

Did he play against anybody that Memphis is going to use to beat the Warriors?

Walton just beat a few teams that were playing their bench. Is Walton a great coach all of a sudden.

King > Bagley

Yes, now we have two obscure players out of nowhere that are objectively better than the former #2 pick of the draft: Metu and King!

And Jones is better at picking and rolling than Bagley.

Marvin was barely visible on the bench, hiding in a hoody in the third row. He cannot bring himself to root for his teammates because his bruised ego and perpetual self-absorption precludes it.

The countdown is ON until Bagley and Fluke are “Adios Amigos”!

It will be a glorious day in Kings Land when McGenius ushers these two futile scrubs out of town, 2 for 1 Uber offered as courtesy.

It’s an open forum. And this is the same stuff people get excited about every year. King might not even suit up for this team next season.

Who is this guy McNair of whom you speak? I believe you are referring McGenius!

Regarding King, McGenius strikes again!

I cannot get excited about undersized SG Justin James scoring a career high, though I do give him credit for developing that runner, that is not an easy shot, and few players ever master it, but I can get excited by Lou King, he’s got length size and impressive handles. He reminds me of Taurian Prince, an old school Detroit Piston.

King fits a pressing need for us, a combo forward , and he seems to be a two-way player. Where are the holes to his game, and why has he not caught on sooner, he seems like a well rounded player.

Compare him to slugs and bums like Bruno Cabulco, Justin Jackson, and even Ramsay and Woodward (who cannot play, c’mon guys, talk about hope being dead!), King has a poise and confidence and comfort level that the inevitable washouts cannot match.

And the cool thing about King is he will eagerly sign a 2-3 year guaranteed deal, to be able feed his family, so to speak, and he may easily be as good as any player you can get in the mid 1st round!

There are not booing, they are yellling LOOOOOOOOU.

And Lou just turned 22 years last month. I thought he was 26-27 because he has a receding hairline that ages him, but he’s a youngin with veteran polish. He boosted his 3 point shooting from 33% to 46% in two seasons in the G League, making 26 out of 57 attempts. That is a small sample size but enough to be encouraged the guy can be money!

King has beautiful arc on his shot. And notice he can put the ball on the floor and go left even though he is a righty?

Imagine Marvin head faking from the perimeter and dribbling to his right to make a play, it ain’t happenin!

It is also impressives he seems to have the requisite athletisicm but does not need to rely on athleticism to make plays. You cannot say this about Marvin.

Oh yeah and Lou projects as a two position player, Marvin is a one position player.

Gee, how much better is this guy than The Bust, let me count the ways!

yes, I agree with what you saw in Justin James…

He had a good game last game, but compared to Louis King, King is a way better player than JJ.

Louis King has some decent ball handling skill, perfect size to play SG/SF..

If we are not going to keep Harkless for cheap, then McNair should seriously consider signing King to a contract…and let him play backup SF..

Louis King displayed a diverse skill set last night. Basically, he showed more than James, Woodard and Ramsey have shown. For the article to just mention in passing that he scored 27 and nothing more has to be intentional, maybe just to provoke us readers to respond WTF?! Did you not see …

The Kings end-of-season standing is almost tied-at-the-hip with the number of teams the NBA decides to allow into the post-season. Is it coincidence that the teams headed for the top 8 (normally), or the top 10 (play-in) push all-in and maximize their rosters while the others tank? Is it just circumstance which leaves our team left standing in the middle?
This franchise is the two-headed jackass that leaves the barn with two minds. One heads east toward the alfalfa patch, one west toward the grass-hay pasture. Either is equally nutritious and healthful, but both heads are as stubborn as mules and as a matter of preference, they are divided. With the two heads refusing to do anything except pull harder in the opposite direction of it’s partner, the animal is frozen in place…and starves.

Wonderful analogy. Back to moving deck chairs in 21-22. The more things change the more they stay the same.
