DeMarcus Cousins and Matt Barnes are being sued over their involvement in December 5th nightclub ‘brawl’

The “he said, she said” game is officially ON.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last several days, you’ve probably heard by now that DeMarcus Cousins and Matt Barnes ran into a bit of trouble in New York City on December 5th following their loss to the Knicks.

TMZ’s original report –

This unfortunate situation has since devolved into a bad game of ‘he said, she said’, leaving just about everyone wondering what actually happened that night in NYC. Matt Barnes, through his lawyer Alex Spiro (if that name sounds familiar, Spiro represented Thabo Sefolosha in his nightclub incident from April 2015) is claiming that Barnes was the victim, and the people that have since sued Barnes and Cousins (more on that later) were the aggressors that night.

So about that lawsuit.

TMZ was first to receive details about said lawsuit, because of course they were, reporting –

Those are some really damming accusations, but to this point, that is all they are. Barnes posted the following on Instagram before the details of this lawsuit broke, but I think, based on every indication from Barnes’ camp, he strongly disagrees with what ‘reportedly’ happened that night.

Finally, that brings us to this mornings revelation courtesy of KHTK’s Carmichael Dave, who reported a litany of new details, but the most frustrating being that the security footage from the nightclub was inconclusive due to ‘low lighting’. Seriously.

Dave also went on to report that his source doesn’t expect any charges to be filed by the NYPD against Matt Barnes or DeMarcus Cousins.

Shortly after Dave’s report, TMZ followed up with a small gallery of Matt Barnes’ ‘nightclub wounds’ that may or may not help his case. Aside from a couple of scratches, Barnes didn’t really show any signs of ‘nightclub brawl’. TMZ pointed out that the condition of Barnes’ fist may not line up with how someones fists would look if they had just viciously attacked someone like the lawsuit above states.

This could easily turn into one of those situations where the full truth remains unknown due to the lack of conclusive security camera footage, and that couldn’t be more frustrating. We’ll have to wait and see how all of this plays out, but regardless of how innocent Barnes and Cousins are, the dark cloud hovering over the Kings while this garbage runs its course really is the last thing the Kings and their fans need. It’s always something with this franchise.

UPDATE 10:52 AM:

KHTK has obtained a copy of the lawsuit filed against Barnes and Cousins. You can read the full document here.
