De’Aaron Fox named Western Conference Player of the Week

The eyes of the nation now turn to the Player of the Month award.

Sacramento Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox was named the Western Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Fox earned the award with a week of huge performances that saw the Kings go 4-0.

Over that week, Fox average 36.8 points, 5.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 2 steals per game.

It was widely assumed after Sacramento’s win over the Cavaliers that Fox would win player of the week. We now wait to hear the results for Player of the Month. Fox has been tremendous throughout March, and has a strong case for the award.

This is the second time this season Fox has won Player of the Week.

That stat line is bonkers – he was pretty obviously going to win PotW.

Does he win Player of the Month for March, though? He should certainly be in contention but I’m not sure if anyone else has been red-hot this month as well…

Zion has been pretty dominant this month, but I give it to Fox for willing his team to wins.

Dame has been pretty nutty too:
Fox – 30.5pt, 3.9reb, 6.9ast, 2.1stl/blk
Dame – 29.5pt, 4.2reb, 7.2ast, .8stl/blk

Pretty close with fox having a significant defensive advantage, hopefully that will push him over the top.

Jokic, Luka, Harden all near triple double avg with very high 20s for points too…tough to win the monthly one for sure

If Fox can regularly be part of a conversation that includes Lillard, Jokic, Doncic and Harden, it will change the landscape of Sacramento Kings basketball.

I could NOT have said that any better. We need a landscape change too. It kinda feels like we’re on the verge. But how many times have we said this as Kings fans???

Fuck it. We deserve the playoffs.

Maybe he’ll even help entice good free-agents to sign with the Kings someday soon.

I have a feeling Halliburton might have this impact over Fox with the way he plays the game.

It certainly will. You can see the difference in the Kings’ record when Fox plays like a superstar vs when he simply plays well.

The really amazing part is that when he’s got the ball, he doesn’t even look like he’s trying that hard. He just takes what’s there and creates for himself or a teammate. Everything seems to be coming to him in the easy flow of the game, and he’s quick, but rarely in a rush. Remarkable stuff.

I think Harrison Barnes is rubbing off on him. He seem so calm, cool, and collected on the court. He also seems to be enjoying himself more, but winning has that effect.

Maybe teams who passed on him in the draft are balling lately, too!

Where will he rank among All-time Sacramento Kings?

No particular order, but players to consider:

Chris Webber
Mitch Richmond
De’Aaron Fox
Demarcus Cousins
Predrag Stojakovic
LaBradford Smith

I’d put him at least as high as everyone on that list, including Fox.

I was looking at Fox’s stats, and his points on drives was just ridiculous last week. He had the most points on drives (80) by far. The craziest part is that he did that on 42 FGAs. So basically, Fox got 1.90 points per driving FGA over that span. the Kings would score 169 point per game if they had that type of efficiency overall.

I read earlier today that the Kings game against the Warriors was the best offensive game any team has played all season. They scored 141 points on 97 possessions which is just absurd. In case anyone was wondering, the Fox/Haliburton backcourt (on offense at least) is going to be really freaking good.

We should lock him up long term…..oh wait, he’s signed to a max deal! McNair did that right.

I like Fox a lot. I love how he plays right now. Even shows some moments where he digs in on D.

Next step is to be more consistent, also against the better defensive teams.

I remember his first season and I never dreamed he would add so much to his game. He’s made leaps since his rookie year.

Soft. He’ll never get to the free throw line shying away from contact like that.

Yeah his at-rim finishing right now is quite literally the best in the NBA for a guard and it isn’t even close. That’s impressive.

In the first game against the Nets this season (when they couldn’t miss from three), there was one possession where Irving was putting on a ballhandling clinic trying to get around Fox, and whichever way he went, Fox was already there. After about fifteen seconds, Fox just grabbed the ball and took off.

It takes a ton of energy to maintain that kind of defense, and with his willingness to throw the team on his back at times, it would be impossible to put the clamps on for 36 minutes. But seeing him do that, it’s good to know that he’s capable of turning on that kind of juice when he needs to.

I kind of get the impression that he’s taking a lot more pride in his defense this year. It wouldn’t take a lot of new personnel to get the team in the happy half of defensive statistics, but that will have to wait another month or two.

I remember our first game in 2018 against Luka when Fox said I got him and Luka only scored 2 points or something like that after. I forget if it was for the whole second half or just the 4th quarter, but he took him completely out of the game.
