Davion Mitchell will not participate in the Rising Stars Challenge at All Star Weekend due to an injured hand. Mitchell missed Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Bulls due to the same hand injury.
Before Wednesday’s game, Alvin Gentry described the injury as a minor hand contusion. At the time Gentry wasn’t sure if it would even impact Mitchell’s available for All Star Weekend, so it certainly doesn’t sound like a major injury concern.
It’s a bit of a disappointment for Kings fans, as Rising Stars is usually the main opportunity to see Kings players in All Star events. The Kings were going to be represented by both Mitchell and Tyrese Haliburton, but Haliburton was traded and now Mitchell is out.
Mitchell will be replaced by Bones Hyland of the Denver Nuggets.
The Rising Stars Challenge is on Friday, February 18th, at 6 PM PT.
And now regarding the NBA All Star game/festivities:
I’m looking forward to some serious defensive stalwarts voted in by the fans in the “All Star” thingy
Gentry giving injury update analysis again? 😐
sequenced.
Damn. Get better soon, Davion. 🙁
It’s unfortunate, but there’s no sense in him potentially missing more games so that he can compete in a meaningless exhibition.
And in his case, there’s always next year.
Drats for Davion. Good for Bones Hyland though. He’s a very worthy candidate.
So lets discuss the 76ers Moorey news dropped.. https://clutchpoints.com/daryl-morey-teases-blockbuster-trade-offer-to-mystery-team-before-sixers-james-harden-deal/
People of course are focusing on Hali and the Kings.. does anyone really believe that Monte would have turned down Simmons and and two 1st’s ? i mean come on…
I guess if James Harden had been playing in Sacramento, then it’s entirely possible that he’d have made that trade.
Okay, now if Wilt Chamberlain was on the Kings roster, and was somehow still in his prime and not dead, here’s how I think the Morey/McNair negotiations would have gone
Morey is insane, there’s a few people in the league worth more than two 1st’s and an all star.. Not sure who it was, but it can’t be real.
I could see it being Luka.
After seeing the whole Nets failure… I assume basketball players have to play basketball not just be.
Wouldn’t it be Fox if it were the Kings? Clearly Monte values Fox above Hali. Also given that Monte ultimately traded Hali, I wouldn’t think he would turn down getting two 1sts and a young all-star. On the Sixers side, they are in a win now mode and a move for Fox would make sense over Haliburton who makes more sense for a team trying to rebuild and get young prospects.
I think the logic is people are saying Hali because he was ended up traded. I agree that in this theory i would think it would be Fox, but i don’t buy that monte wouldn’t have traded Fox for two 1st and Simmons. As much as a potentially ukn Simmons is.. a Team with Simmons & Sabonis + multiple first round draft picks is in a win now position + long term success.
Philly doesn’t need Fox though
Definitely not Fox with his performance and his salary and the lack of need from the Sixers.
But you wouln’t have gotten Sabonis.
“Clearly Monte values Fox above Hali.”
That’s a big assumption based on the actual trade but it could be that the Pacers valued Hali above Fox.
Yup.
Agree 100%, there’s nothing clear about it. There are any number of scenarios where Fox could have been the one traded. Other than trading Halliburton and Fox, I’d say everything was on the table
Off topic: The Kings traded away Kevin Martin on this date twelve years ago.
For Top Hat, whom they traded away the very next year, and cap space. Those waning Maloof years sure were shitty.
I present to you how to completely lose value of a asset in 4 seasons:
Martin became Landry
Landry became Marcus Thornton and Cash Considerations
Thornton became Jason Terry (who never played a game for the Kings) and Reggie Evans
Reggie Evans’ contract expired and he was out of the league.
The worst part: When Evans expired for the Kings in 2015. Kevin Martin was just 31 years old and averaged 20ppg for the T-Wovles while shooting nearly 40% from three.
That’s a really nice breakdown of subsequent events.
I enjoyed Landry being in Sacramento. He was an extremely good guy, busted his ass on the court, and was quite skilled. If he’d have been 6’10” instead of (realistically) 6’7″, I think he’d have been an all-star. I recall our beloved Mr. Reynolds describing Landry as “quick, but never in a hurry.”
And Thornton had some really incredible moments while he was here. The Bayou Bomber could single-handedly put a game out of reach for an opponent. The man could strike like lightning.
Not much to tell beyond Thornton, looks like it devolved into cost-cutting, which all fans love.
Kevin Martin had a beautifully smooth, if quirky, style of play. Much love for the Ohio kid drafted late out of a small college, and becoming one of the best and most-efficient scorers in the game.
I think Kevin Martin was my most recent favorite Kings until Haliburton came along. Maybe it’s their quirky shots?
Quirky shot?
You forgot Chuck Hayes!
How does one forget the Chuckwagon?
There’s a kind of beauty to both of their games, even though they’re quite different. It’s hard to quantify that, but it’s a lot of fun to watch.
So you’re saying it helped the Kings stay in Sacramento?
Well, he didn’t fit with Tyreke Evans, who they later traded away and then traded back for and then released. Like Omir Casspi.
OT: If I were a betting man, I’d say the Kings are going to sign a legit PG to a two-way deal. They need another one if Mitchell is going to be out for a while.
I know someone who is available.
I don’t think previous NBA players can be on a two-way deal. I’m not positive, but I think there is some rule like that.
[Followed by: Kings waive Alex Len.]
From the NBA G-League site:
Ahhh, thanks for finding that.
That’s interesting, although with Holiday and some of the other new guys, King’s value drops from the Kings’ point of view.
Unrelated to King, I wonder if they’re looking at anyone in the buyout market.
I doubt it. They’d have to cut someone else if they were to sign a recent buyout.
King was a TWC, not holding a normal roster spot.
Put another way, they’d have to waive someone not named Queta (also a TWC) to open a roster spot as Adam said.
Hence my “unrelated to King” disclaimer.
Too subtle. You do not pass GO, you do not collect 200$.
Could have used him against the bulls. They were scoring at will for much of the 4th quarter.
Leave Will out of this.
Oh FFS!
I mean this honestly, and with all the sincerity I can muster: What’s it to you?
The game is a handjob for the wealthy and famous, I’m sure there have to be worse examples of participants. I didn’t know people actually watched the game, but I’d encourage you to skip it if it will raise your blood pressure.
I’m not going to watch never. Never do, but what has Anjali done other than being Vivek’s child? Nepotism always disgusts me.
I am on board with you about nepotism.
Except in Luke Walton’s case. Once in a lifetime, a man comes along who is so exceptional, that you just have to ignore his last name and abysmal coaching record.
Just wait till his son becomes President of BBall Ops ! ????
“Until?”

Meh, it’s alright. I personally wasn’t going to watch regardless of 1-2 kings players. He can rest up.
I was disappointed in Lou King. Not sure how he averaged 5.6 ppg. I suspect that he was not waived blindly and there is a plan in place. I doubt they waive a guy without another guy in place.
I can hear the sarcasm now.
Is it the break already?
Night Off 4 Off Night
So in a matter of two weeks the Kings go from two representatives in the (jr.) All-Star game to zero.
