The Sacramento Kings sent out a press release today announcing that starting Point Guard Darren Collison is doubtful to play today against the Dallas Mavericks due to a shoulder injury. According to the Kings' press release, doubtful translates to a 25% chance to play. Collison has been Sacramento's third leading scorer (14.7 points) and leading assist man (6.3 a game).
With Collison gone, the Kings will turn to Ramon Sessions (who will likely get the start) and Ray McCallum. Sessions has been awful so far, so this is a big opportunity for him to step up and have a really good game. It's also a big chance for McCallum, as this will be the first game all year where he's likely to see consistent playing time, especially if Sessions continues to struggle.
Defensively is where the Kings could feel Collison's loss the most, as he's been very good on that end of the floor. McCallum has promise on that end, but Sessions has been a sieve at best. Dallas has several attacking guards, so we'll see how the Kings respond in their floor general's likely absence.
Get well soon Darren.
