The Sacramento Kings take the floor at Golden 1 Center Saturday for the start of the California Classic.
Headlining the roster for the Kings is Darius Acuff Jr., Dylan Cardwell, Nique Clifford and Emanuel Sharp. Alex Karaban injured his ankle during practice this week and will sit out.
Sacramento takes on the Brooklyn Nets, featuring Mikel Brown Jr., who was taken 6th overall in the NBA Draft right before Acuff. It will be interesting to see what that matchup looks like.
The game is available on Prime Video and NBA TV.
Go Kings!

Is this going to be broadcast anywhere outside of Sacramento? Like NBA TV or elsewhere?
The ESPN website shows ESPN+, Prime Video, and NBA TV as broadcasting all the games at Golden 1.
Thanks. I hear Mark and Kayte, ugh.
Or was it Morgan? I had it turned low.
Morgan. But not an improvement.
Looking forward to it. Maybe both teams drafted well? Maybe both teams drafted a star pg? To new beginnings! (big sigh…please don’t be a bust please don’t be a bust please don’t be a bust)
The game start at 2:00 PM, according to Prime video. This is pretty much the only Kings game I had any interest in watching all year.
Cardwell looks slimmed down. Puttin in work in the gym. Love his energy
Acuff taking some bad shots.
Just like the regular season, every team the Kings play is bigger and more athletic. Oh yeah, and they have wings too, not small two’s playing three.
Brown not starting? What up with that?
The new free throw rules they’re trying out are f%##@ing stupid.
Kings 1st quarter (10 minutes) offense put up 10 points!!!:
2 dunks
1 paint shot
1 3pt FT
1 single pt FT
Nets targeting Acuff. This will be a familiar sight this season.
Sharp has an ugly shot. Got a 3 ball to go down though. Other than last two shots this California Classic team had been playing about as “well” as the regular season Kangz.
Well, looking rather good the past several possessions, especially on D (feels strange to write that).
Please get rid of this goofy-ass one-free-throw-for-two-points thing.
Just imagine the 3pt foul baiting in the regular season. Dudes would just try and draw a foul on every shot.
00 should not be a jersey number in any sport.
First world problems.
Well, I live in a 1st world country so it’s fitting.
Well, Mr. Sharp seems to be a pretty good defender.
Best player on the floor the first half.
Yeah, agreed.
Emanuel Sharp was by far the Kings’ best player in the first half. Was hoping that Acuff would look like a man among boys but that hasn’t happened yet.
I like Ragan better than Christensen. Ragan does a much better job of staying focused on the game. And there’s no “listen” or “one thing Kings fans need to understand” b.s.
She doesn’t have that in- depth former player knowledge as Kayte (which she uses to lecture the fans) but she is a lot more bearable to listen to overall.
You have as many NBA career minutes as Kayte.
At least I know that, she doesn’t.
Kayte often sounds angry or upset. Her tone is not one that works on the broadcast. I hope they change the broadcast team sooner rather than later.
But you know, first world problems.
I hear you. Nice comeback. Just sharing a preference. I’d rate it as a higher issue than not allowing 00 to be a number since Christensen does every broadcast. Kidding…
They both suck, we agree!!!
I guess I’m the only one that likes Kayte.
Her mom probably likes her too.
Small group !
She has good insight, but the delivery is lacking in a big way.
Summer league is meaningless, but the first quarter review isn’t great. Acuff isn’t taking great shots, is picking the ball up too fast in the half court and has had his dribble bothered by pressure.
They’re also taking him off ball, which absolutely should not be happening in summer league. He needs to run the point for this team all year. That should be happening in almost every minute he’s on the floor.
Acuff also doesn’t seem to have an easy time shaking guys off the dribble, which I assume is just a sample size problem and not a real issue. Again, it’s one quarter of one game, none of these teams play well together, or coherent basketball, and if he had scored 20, that wouldn’t really matter either.
To me it brought back disturbing memories of Bagleys Summer League debut.
Not encouraging, but it’s such a small sample size that it doesn’t really mean much. Let’s see how it goes over the next few weeks, into the preseason, etc. when he gets more reps.
The ball pressure he faced, and how he navigated that, left a lot to be desired. Hopefully once he sees that more he can adjust. 7th pick in the draft, he’ll have a bullseye on his jersey.
Instead of doing everything by himself when it counted had a great assist as Clifford made the 3. Game over. Liked that.
Yup, made the play a PG is supposed to make. Found the open guy, didn’t try and ISO force his shot.
I don’t know how anyone can listen to Jones’s awful catchphrases and not complain as much about him as they do Kayte.
His catchphrases are bad. He uses words that nobody in the real world uses. And his voice sounds fake. Like it’s his TV voice. Doesn’t seem genuine.
They’re both terrible. Jones just sounds worse than usual when he’s paired with Mo instead of Kayte.
Acuff was out there chucking disinterestly a lot of the game
it’s a first impression. And how often does first impressions set the tone of the relationship?
patience I guess
Well, let’s hope he doesn’t chuck up 30 shots every game.
That would make him DDR or LaVine Lite.
A few notes from the game. Acuff was really forcing it early and missed a ton of easy shots that you have to think he’ll normally make. He looked a lot more comfortable in the second half and his vision is next level. It was clear that nobody on the floor with him today was prepared for his level of passing. I counted six times that guys looked shocked to have the ball come to them.
I know it’s Summer League but dear lord the officiating was so bad the game was almost unwatchable. Needless review after needless review where the officials would take 10 minutes to either make the wrong call, or get a call right that was so obvious it should have been made correctly on the floor the first time. Acuff had a beautiful drive that was an obvious goaltend that they just missed and Cardwell got the weakest flagrant foul I’ve ever seen, which is really saying something.
Sharp looked really good out there. He will be a fan favorite in short order. Plays insanely hard and defends like crazy.
I think this team really missed Karaban out there just to calm things down and make an open three. The Kings won, but that was one of the worst shooting performances I can remember on a basketball court.
The 2 and 3 for 1 free throw thing… WHO ASKED FOR THIS!?!? If they were to ever implement that in the NBA, Dylan Cardwell might shoot 0% for the season. Mitchell Robinson would have to retire. At least in a real game you get two shots and can potentially dial it in a little bit after the first one.
Nique Clifford… I know he hit the big three at the end but I just don’t think this guy has it. He does a little bit of everything, but he doesn’t do any of it well enough to be an above average player at this stage of his career. Hope he starts to look better as the summer league goes on, but right now I think he’s going to go the way of so many other Kings who never really did anything.
Thought Acuff in 2nd half impressive . Scored and moved the ball very easy . Also , noticed Peterson had 28 pts on 21 shots with 8 turnovers and Kingston Flemmings was 4 for 16 . 19 year olds adjusting to the pros .
Too soon on Nique. Sheesh, give him the summer leagues and 20 games next season at least. Today he shot 50% from the field AND 50% from three (2-4) which is pretty awesome.
There you go.
I disagree on Nique, Looks more confident. Didn’t hesitate on the winner 3. Just made it. He IMO is a team player can really play defense(hello Christie). Hope Doug starts him over Lavine. I can see a combo of Acuff and Clifford playing together. Acuff the offense and Clifford the defense although he can score too.
First game jitters by Darius in the first half, but he settled into a good rhythm by the 2nd half. His court vision is very good and he does not force passes into traffic. He hasn’t shown an impressive first step, but when he drives, he uses angles well. IMHO, his floor is Dennis Smith Jr., unfortunately. Ceiling will be determined when he actually goes up against NBA level defenders, but for now, im beginning to like what i see. Not sure its just my old eyes, but his shot trajectory seems a little flat, not as high arcing as i would have expected. Maybe if he tosses it a little higher, his efficiency might improve.
Starting to like Mogbo and Sharp, to a lesser degree. Nique has shown improvement in his shot and a willingness to cut with intent. Needless to say, this was the first SL game i watched from start to finish.
And i hate the 1-freethrow abomination.
I’m hoping Mogbo is worth the wait– his defense is looking good. Flager– remove that 2-way deal soon. Super short, older, and does not fit the timeline (I know it’s one game, but there are likely better players on the roster). I hope BJ Edwards or another player takes the spot, and hopefully we give Jamarion Sharp a good amount of minutes to see if he can earn a two-way deal for blocking shots and getting rebounds.
I’m gonna say the same thing I said about Halliburton after the first time I saw him, acuff is/looks legit. He looked very good out there.
Can score from all three level levels. Got to the rim when he needed with ease and finished well. He’s the real deal. Offensively.
He moves and plays like a potential star. Love the pick already. At the very least he’ll be super fun to watch. I think they got something here.
My only gripe is that Doug is his coach.
And its Vivek who signs the checks.
Can’t help that.
Yes, this piece of shit. Owner is the most likely reason things would go bad.
I just wish they had a real coach. Like if they had kept Mike Brown. But he looks like a potential star to me.
Agree on Acuff and Christi ! Acuff is likely the least problem the Kings will have this season .
You guys need to give Christie a chance with another group that hapefully won’t be in the hospital all year and younger. It’s a rebuild year not a championship year. IMO I will give him this year then evaluate. GO KINGS!
Christie was a shitty hire who didn’t have the experience or the record to be a head coach. Willie step into that role?
Very questionable. And last year he didn’t do anything that appeared to m
e like he’s a capable coach. Didn’t get the most out of his guys. Stubbornly wouldn’t take despite the logic.
