NBC Sports California Kings Insider, James Ham, reported on Tuesday morning that the Kings medical team discovered a minor meniscus tear in Bogdan Bogdanovic’s left knee during their routine end-of-season physical. According to Ham, Bogdanovic will undergo a minimally invasive meniscus debridement procedure at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City later today.

As Ham notes in his report, Bogdanovic has played more basketball than most over the last year+ when you consider his quick transition from a full season with Fenerbahce, to Serbian National Team commitments, to his first full 82 game season in the NBA.

Bogdanovic led the Kings in minutes last season, clocking in with a grand total of 2,175. While the source of Bogdanovic’s knee injury is unclear, one could assume that the heavy workload had something to do with it.

With that being said, this news will give more ammunition to the ‘Kings should have manufactured more losses down the stretch’ crowd.

You can argue that this injury should have been discovered by the Kings earlier, but if you’re willing to give the Kings a pass on that, resting Bogi towards the end of the season made all the sense in the world before this news came to light, and having him lead the team in minutes after playing with Fenerbahce and Serbia was an interesting call that is open for second guessing.

While this is certainly an unfortunate development, on the spectrum of knee injuries, a minor meniscus tear is on the low end of concern.
