The Sacramento Kings announced that Anjali Ranadivé, daughter of Kings Chairman Vivek Ranadivé, is stepping down from her role as General Manager of the Stockton Kings. Assistant GM Gabriel Harris will serve as GM for Stockton going forward.

Ranadivé was promoted to GM of the Stockton Kings in June of 2023, after spending one season as an assistant GM. At the time, we questioned her qualifications to take over as GM of a G League franchise. The moved reeked of nepotism, but we hoped to be proven wrong. Anajli stepping down less than a year into the role because she wants to go back to college and run a non-profit for animals does little to dissuade concerns for how the G League chose their GM last summer.
I know it may seem like I’m overreacting to figurehead roles in the G League, but smart organizations utilize the G League to develop and discover talent. I simply want the Kings organization, at all levels, to operate in a serious manner and maximize every opportunity.
This breaks today, with the fan base in its current mood?
Just resting her so she’s ready to take over for Monte this summer.
Anjali Garden. If you’re here, you’re family.
I recalled a few days after her hire as AGM, we moved up the draft and eventually got Keegan. So if she goes….
How will we ever recover?
How does this affect Stockton in terms of being a top free agent destination?
On a sinking ship, the brats leave first.
Man, I picked the wrong parents.
From pop star, to basketball GM, to Ph.D. Must be nice.
All while the average person is just struggling to get by working 40 plus hours a week in the face of inflation and stagnant wages/salaries in the most expensive state in the country.
Not a good luck by Vivek.
Good for her. Should’ve never been hired, but the Stockton Kings are still around and are doing quite well with some interesting players on the roster. Could’ve been a lot worse I guess.
Well she has one year of experience now and is well qualified so when she feels like it she can return to the Kangz as GM of the Sacramento Kings and relegate Monte to Assistant to the GM.
1 year of experience more than Vlade had.
“Don’t worry, I got my white board of notes!”
Vlade still had no experience as a GM even after all his years as the Kings’ GM.
Must be nice being the daughter of a billionaire. Can do what you want on a whim
So “Stockton Kings GM” was Anjali’s summer/fall internship.
One of the more embarrassing side stories of the season. Vivek’s little girl gets an elite FO position with no qualification and then steps down when she finds something else that she’s more interested in doing. The nepotism and lack of professionalism associated with this little escapade has been pretty absurd.
Glad she gave up the job. Terrible organizations do this shit. Hiring completely unqualified people for basketball roles.
That’s how Vivek has been running this organization until he hired Monte. Hopefully this will be the last time he pulls something like this. Doubt it.
I have zero tolerance for owners who have egos so big they don’t realize the way to win is to hire good people and let them work.
I don’t care if they’re the owner and they can do what they want.
NBA 3.0: It’s who you know, not what you got. Pretty much like the rest of the corporate world.
And so ends the most followed chapter in Stockton King’s history. I expect nobody here will have the same passion for Gabriel Harris being GM. Selective outrage in its purest form.
Whose daughter is Gabriel Harris?
That’s the question everybody wants answers to (at least the both of us). I bet the Harrises’ are only hundred millionaires not billionaires. We need to remember that Anjali did give up her professional singing career to contribute to the Kings growth And if I’m not mistaken once they found out that they had an accused murderer on their roster she stepped up and cut him immediately…..if not sooner….so there’s that…….SMH!!!
That didn’t last long. The trial run to see if the owner’s kid wants to be involved with team decisions didn’t seem to hurt Stockton much. I’m glad the uncoupling happened quickly instead of dragging along.
She’ll be ready to swoop in and take over if Monte is unable to find a good trade before the deadline.
Go back to college = live off of Daddy
Run a non profit for animals = Create a new “business” and spend all of Daddy’s money.
Well, I guess she’s available to “sing” the anthem again.
My thoughts on this are funny. Everyone hates nepotism until they’re the beneficiary of it. Tell me you’d be like “no dad, I won’t let you loan me one of your 40 million dollars to start my own business. That would be nepotism.” Or not take a job in the family company when offered? Honestly…
If I had a daughter who was outgoing I’d give her damn near anything she’d ask for to feel successful and wouldn’t give a damn if anyone thought it was tacky or corny, or nepotism. So much bitterness and acrimony for this young lady seems mostly unwarranted to me. It appears the Stockton Kings survived with and without her.
It could be an Ace Hardware and she gets to be be an assistant manager AND the Snow Queen of the pageant one year. It just happens he owns the Kings. Happens everywhere in America at every level, that’s life. I don’t find this to be that big of a deal and actually applaud Vivek for being what appears to be involved and supportive of his daughters efforts. If you could ask for the best parent, those two things (involved and supportive) would be pretty high in the required criteria list. I’m glad she’s moving on to better things and wish her the best.
Interesting take. Not how I thought about this situation but I appreciate the perspective.
They’re not her efforts, they’re his.
Some people scratch and claw their way into the music business, while others have their dad hand a check to a producer. Hopefully this time off will give her more time to work on another classic album.
People scratch and claw there way into a number of industries while others benefit entirely from their connections. Hell, look at Bronny James, he’s currently a poster child for nepo-babies everywhere. He’d be playing on a D3 partial scholarship at Worcester St. if his name was LeBron Smith and his dad was a UPS driver from Peoria.
Also worth noting that the Stockton Kings are the 3rd best record in the G-League currently. Who knows exactly what she did or how much say she had in things, but the team has been very successful. So there’s that.
Um, OK. From pop-star wannabe to NBA basketball executive to college kid wanting to run a non-profit for animals. Not a resume most HR directors will see too often. I’ve got nothing against her. She hasn’t done anything egregious that I know of. I wish her well.
But normally you go to college THEN become an NBA exec, right? Not the other way around.
She’s going back for a PHD so it’s likely she been to college before.
I think she has a degree in marine science.

“From where I was standing I could see directly into the eye of the great fish!”
The fans were angry that day friends.
“Mamal.”
“Whatever!”
Her credentials for the job were fishy
Meh. Happens all over, and actually for the big club. See Ressler in Atl, Lacob in the Bay. I wish her well.
Anybody else felt that after Vlade was hired back in some capacity, the Kings have taken a nosedive?
Good decision…anyway she is still hot 🙂
I am confused why everyone is so angry. As the article says we use the G league to develop people and what better way to develop your future owner than in the G league. 2 years of G league experience will make her a better owner when the time comes.
I think it was the way she got the position. Usually basketball people work their way up through the ranks, learning the jobs and showing that they are competent.
She became the GM with basically no experience.
The former owner of the Reno Bighorns–who were eliminated with the move to Stockton and end of the purpose of the D-League to bring pro sports to small cities in states without professional teams–told me this joke:
How do you become a millionaire?
Start out as a billionaire, then buy and operate a minor league franchise.
Damn, what a game between the 49ers-Packers. Definitely didn’t think the Niners would pull that win out, but glad they did in the end! Let’s break the NFC Championship game next week now.
I thought they were going to lose too. The defense got stronger as the game went on. Luckily the Packers missed that FG.
Nice to see Purdy orchestrate the drive and get the ball to the playmakers.
Not sure what her credentials were before getting hired. Erik Spoelstra started off as
a videographer. Working his way up. She would be the laughing stock in NBA circles if she was hired for any role. And it wouldn’t surprise anyone. Kings rep precedes them. Along with rehiring a man. Regardless of his capacity. Who set the organization back a decade.
man, you all are upset about this? I just had a nightmare I was being chased by a rabid kangaroo in an oversized department store. get real.
