The hits keep on coming for the Sacramento Kings.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Domantas Sabonis has suffered a partially torn meniscus in his left knee and will be re-evaluated in 3-4 weeks. Sabonis has been an ironman in his first three seasons with the Kings but has already suffered multiple injuries this season, missing time with a hamstring strain and rib injury. The Kings are currently 1-3 in games Sabonis has missed, but it’s been clear he hasn’t been playing at 100% in the games he has been in. Sabonis is currently averaging 17.2 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists on 51% from the field, all lows for his time in a Kings uniform.
The Kings are currently sitting at 3-12 on the season entering tonight’s matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies. They are getting a reinforcement with Keegan Murray making season debut after suffering a thumb injury in the preseason, but even still they’re going to remain undersized for the foreseeable future. Murray and Sabonis are the two players the Kings simply don’t have solid depth behind and they just so happen to be the two that have spent most of the season injured. With Sabonis out, the Kings will likely rely on a platoon of Drew Eubanks, Precious Achiuwa and rookies Maxime Raynaud and Dylan Cardwell.
On the court, this is bad news for the Sacramento Kings, but off the court, it might be just what the team needs to start selling off assets and prepare for a full rebuild. I’ll believe it when I see it though. Still, there’s a non-zero percent chance that we might have seen the last of Domantas Sabonis in a Kings uniform, which would be a sad end for a player who started out his tenure here on such a high note.
Get well soon Domas.

Even if the accidental tank keeps rolling and we finish with one of the worst 3-4 records in the league, we’ll find a way to fall out of the lottery without even trading/losing the pick, even though that’s technically impossible!
Where there’s a will, there’s a way baby!
You’re in luck!! Our Sacramento Kings have already proven that they don’t need to fall out of the lottery to ensure their continued ineptitude for years to come (see Doncic, Luka, 2018).
Gut reaction: Good. Nothing to serious that hurts his trade value significantly but enough to really ensure a tank. If he is about to be traded it keeps him from getting a major injury that could tank his value (Whatever that is).
This team could easily be 6-24 by New Years.
Gives shots to guys that can maybe have some inflated stats and allow Kings to maybe get off 1-2 guys. Obviously tough contracts and players to move. Might help.
Reminder: No matter what pick they get they will mismanage it.
We don’t know that. Perry has one draft and he got Nique and Maxime. It’s way early, but those so far at least look like playable dudes.
But I agree with Marty. Even if they draft the right people, they will miss manage them. Meaning they will fail to develop them, or play them, or have any type of organizational foundation where they can have success.
or they’ll simply trade them away for shit
most likely. This is what they do because they are underfunded and undermanned. And run by an asshole.
I guess I still feel that a full rebuild and getting as many picks as you can is the best way to relevance, despite the front office and ownership group. If they can land a generational star, it could change everything, including some deep pocketed billionaire making Vivek an offer he can’t refuse.
I hope so but I have such little faith anymore. It’s just always adding something nice then doing two or three things that negate it.
Love Clifford and Max solid picks for what we had.
Then signs Doug and JV for Saric and last but definitely not least Dennis. Plus what he did from his first go round here with Vlade and I somehow feel worse.
I just have to say this is perfect karma for a front office that gave away one of the best backup centers in the league for nothing and didn’t bother to find another 3/4 with lenght to play behind or next to Keegan.
If you miss either Domas or Keegan for any amount of time, you are screwed.
Don’t forget that Doug McDermott was signed to just sit on the bench too!
I’m sure not having a backup big meant Domas was playing more minutes, so I’m not surprised he’s dealing with multiple injuries.
well…. at least Doug Christie gets to keep his job a bit longer.
Just tuned in to the Stockton Kings/Memphis game. Any highlights?
Let’s go Kangz!
Listen, the Kings have had the toughest road schedule in the NBA. And like Kayte said there’s a lot of stagnancy in their offense tonight.
Kayte can talk and talk
“Everyone has a stinker,” says Kayte. “You can’t dwell on a game like this for too long.”
Does everyone have three stinkers in 10 days, Kayte?
Get well and rest a bit, Domas!
