The Sacramento Kings were already without the services of Domantas Sabonis and Keegan Murray due to injury, but now we have to add rookie Nique Clifford to the list.
On Thursday, the Kings announced that an MRI following Wednesday’s loss to the Phoenix Suns revealed a right hamstring injury and that he will be reevaluated in one week.
Clifford started against the Suns. In 24 minutes, he finished with 2 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. He was a +3 on the night.
This isn’t the news we needed on top of all of the other news we didn’t need already this season.
So, can any of you play tomorrow against the Utah Jazz?

Well, I guess God also thinks that Keon should play more.
Betting the over? Not a Chaunce!
Gotta keep up with the Jones’.
These are Terry-able puns.
Sometimes you have to just enjoy the flowers even when things are bleak, and these puns make things around here a bit Rozier.
Nicked Clifford.
Nique out tonight
Twiqued his hamstring.
Cliff Nots
Sure, I’m free tomorrow, and will happily suit up for the league minimum salary. Where do I sign?

This team might only have a few wins by December.

that means I like your idea
I don’t see their first winnable game until Atlanta comes to town.
Ugh…going to the game tomorrow night, already missing Sabonis and Keegan.
I’m hopeful this means more playing time for Keon Ellis–who deserves it.
The Worstbrick era is upon us…
If ever there could be a bad signing on a minimum deal, Westbrick is one.
Westbrook on minimum non-guarantted deal is not so bad. Playing him 18 minutes without having had more than 2 practices with the team is bad.
Trix and Brix! I’m totally gonna make fetch happen.
No Saboins? No Keegan? No Nique?
No need to watch.
Don’t we still have Keon?
Doug Christie, probably: “It’s going to come down to who’s playing.”
Drew Eubanks doesn’t excite you?
Ewwwwbanks.
Too bad. Oh well.
My general response to most everything this season.
What I hope comes of this (Ontop of the obvious evidence indicating the immense drop off of production on both offense and defense between Russ and Keon) is that Keon plays 30 minutes, carries the team to victory and makes it virtually impossible for anyone not named Zac or Monk to eat into his minutes.
“Wish in one hand, shit in the other. See which one gets filled first.”
This organization doesn’t value Keon, that’s apparent. Keon will have 29 other teams that want his services this offseason.
Keon, Nique, Keegan seems like the obvious group to stick with while they draft/trade for a real star.
For the record, I am super pissed off about Keon’s lack of playing time in game one. As much as I don’t give a shit about this season I can’t help but be infuriated by this “coaching decision”. I love Doug Christie. Absolutely love the guy. One of my favorite Kings of all time. Liked him as a coach last season, happy he has this opportunity. I don’t even care how many games he wins this year I want him back for the next season when there is hopefully a more logical roster put together.
However… he can’t be clueless like this. So sad. If he fucks up something this obvious as the season rolls on I will be crushed. I can’t believe I even have to type this right now. I can’t believe Doug would even consider doing Keon dirty like he did in game one. I’m shocked honestly. SUPER disappointing.
I don’t get what’s so hard about this whole thing (the addition of Westbrook). Westbrook was not brought in because you needed him to save the day and be the last piece to the puzzle that puts this team’s 8 man rotation on another level. You signed him to a NON GUARANTEED league VET minimum contract!!! For fuck sakes man!?!?!
his role is simple and obvious. Team needs you as an emergency back up to Dennis if he gets hurt. Wonderful idea! Period end of story. If Russ doesn’t like that situation than he is free to go. If he refuses to go and is a baby about it and pouts or becomes confrontational with the coaching staff then you cut him. Simple.
It’s so god damn simple! and yet Doug does this?!? So disrespectful to Keon. I hope Keon voices that to his coach. Doesn’t need to be in public or even in front of his teammates but Doug needs a reality check and Keon needs to stand up for himself.
Russ doesn’t even know the offense yet and missed the entire training camp and he gets more minutes than Keon?!?! Significantly more. Fuck off. Dude shouldn’t have even seen the floor unless the score allowed some garbage time.
it’s so simple it hurts my brain to see this become complicated and so disrespectful to one of the most important players on your roster now AND MORE IMPORTANTLY THE FUTURE. You might have just ruined that future1 game into the season while you’re actively trying to renegotiate his contract. Absolute embarrassment. Absolutely pathetic
Nique, Keon, and Keegan are the types of players that this team needs. Two-way players (Niqie is a rookie but he looks like he can do that at a pretty high level). They can trade everyone else on the roster, I don’t care.
But the Kings want to look competitive and sell the fans on the play-in tournament being a successful season. Like you said, “pathetic”. Everything the basketball ops and ownership does is pathetic.
If The front office and Doug Christie don’t or will not value Keon Ellis then trade him. He deserves at least that much from them. Trade Ellis, Issac Jones and a protected first for Tari Eason. Playing Eason along side Murray would solve a lot of problems at PF. He is young has a really high mother can defend and rebound and can run with the fast breaks. What more due we need. Ellis was a backup playing little minutes and Eason is a starter. This would be just a start. Next is DDR, Monk and Carter. I like Monk and Carter and a second or two for Jeremy Sochan and Keldon Johnson. Sochan bcks up Murray and Eason and Keldon replaces Monk, DDR for Derrick Jones Jr.and Bogi. Jones is the value here not Bogi but salary has to match. Jones backs up Clifford and Murray. Starters: Schroder, LaVine, Murray, Eason and Sabonis. Offense and defense. After LaVine leaves Clifford will take his place. Good backups in Johnson, Sochan, D. Jones, Clifford and eventually Raynaud. Now Perry can replace Westbrook in the draft(yes a guard) to eventually start after Schroder is gone.
PS If you wanted and I think it might be possible trade Sabonis to the Pistons for Duren(now your starting center) Holland , Harris(a expiring contract at 26 mil.) and 2 first round picks. Now the Kings are on the track to look at the future not the past. Maybe even a contender. Remember we still have all our first draft picks except one.
You’re hired. Love these trade ideas. It does make sense to trade Keon now. His value is high everywhere else but here. Apparently.
so, use that since you won’t.
This is what stings for me. Russell has been a Kings for hot second and gets 19 minutes out of the gate. That’s just amateur hour by the front office and coaching staff. I could rationalize if it were mid season, the dude was in shape, and he was filling in for a major injury, but this is game 1, he missed camp, and the team has 27 guards.
If Vivek says Westbrook plays, he plays.
I’m 100% convinced at this point that Doug does not have final say over who plays and who doesn’t, particularly how many minutes each of his “stars” are expected to get.
It’s just one big clown car shitshow, folks…
Agree, believe the signing and playing of Westbrook is on Vivek . Perry/Christie just the latest Yes Men !
“believe the signing and playing of Westbrook is on Vivek”
The same as the signing and playing of LaVine is on Vivek. I think Vivek believes he is Managing Partner (owner), G.M. and Coach.
This. Doug just another empty vessel, yes-man for coach/gm vivek.
