Report: Jake LaRavia dead to me, signs with Lakers

Ouch.

The first solid Kings-related news item has dropped out of NBA Free Agency and it’s an unfortunate one as multiple reports indicate that Jake LaRavia is signing a two-year, $12 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.  The Kings acquired LaRavia midseason from the Grizzlies as part of the Colby Jones & Alex Len trade.

LaRavia proved to be a solid addition for the Kings, averaging 6.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.9 steals while shooting 38.5% from three in 19.3 minutes a game.  But because the Memphis Grizzlies had declined his final year team option, the Kings were limited in what they were able to offer him in Free Agency.  The Lakers offer comes in just above what the Kings were able to offer.  Still, LaRavia was definitely worth the flyer the Kings took on him, and by all accounts they would have liked him to stay but clearly the money and opportunity in Los Angeles took precedence.  Whatever, they don’t even have a beam.

Losing LaRavia means the Kings once again are short on size at the wings.  Hopefully Scott Perry has a backup plan to rectify that.  Rookie Nique Clifford should be able to fill in at the wing as well but in today’s NBA, the more wings the merrier and for once it would be nice to have some depth.

We knew that was probably they case going in. The odds were that some team would offer him something more than what we were allowed to offer. The only way we kept him is of he was horrible last season or he was willing to take less money.

I actually like it when the Kings share their soft, inconsistent players with other teams.
