The Sacramento Kings kick off their preseason tonight as they host the Golden State Warriors. Our long summer is over and we get to watch the Kings play basketball again!
When: Wednesday, October 9th, 7:30 PM PT
Where: Golden 1 Center, Sacramento, CA
TV: ESPN, NBC Sports California
Radio: Sactown Sports 1140
The last time these teams faced off, the Kings eliminated the Golden State Warriors from the Play-In Tournament in a righteous act of revenge for the prior season. Both teams look substantially different now, with the Kings debuting DeMar DeRozan and the Warriors trying to find their way in the post-Klay era. It’s just preseason, but you know these two teams will still take some things personally and play hard. Mike Brown has said in media availability that he intends to play all of his healthy players in this game as a reward for all their hard work in camp. I’m pretty excited we’ll be able to get game-action looks at everyone from the starters to the guys just hoping to land a roster spot.
Since it’s preseason, this post will serve as both the preview and the game thread.
Go Kings!
It’s preseason—this one’s just practice,
Not real—that’s just what the fact is.
See what Monte’s chosen
By adding DeRozan—
Maybe glimpse what Brown’s new attack is!
It’s been too long! Glad I get my does of Jman pre-game rhymes once again!
Awesome to have these back! Thanks Jman!
I wouldn’t be mad if Doug uppercut Kerr. For the sake of tradition.
I don’t know. I kind of like Kerr. Maybe he could get a nice one in on Dray.
I like Kerr as well, but it will interesting to see how his career arc goes once Curry retires. He’s be lucked into a Phil Jackson type of coaching career. Phil always had Jordan or Kobe, while Kerr has always had Curry.
Yeah, his rotations have been questionable for years now.
I’m especially interested how he handles the development of youth. He was handed a ready made roster after Mark Jackson’s departure. I haven’t been especially impressed with how he’s grown Kuminga and Moody, and now he has Podz and TJH.
In my mind, he’s still a clear tier below Pops and Spoels in terms of developing talent…until proven otherwise.
Wonder how many more years he’ll have Curry before he retires.. Even at age 36, he’s still capable of going lights out shooting.
I can’t imagine it’s many more years. 3 years tops, likely 2? Father Time always wins.
The quickness—allowing him a little daylight to get off a shot—will go before the shooting touch. At the end of his career he’ll be more of a spot up shooter, relying on a feed from someone else.
I am not impressed with his coaching- inherited good players and rolled out the ball. Then lame attempts at being a philosopher. But his rotations and substitutions are weak.
He does not elevate his players at all. Youngster development is a huge weakness. Wiseman? gone
Kuminga – is not performing even at draft day expectations Moody regressed.
He is just too full of himself.
Read about Steve Kerr’s early life. He’s not some dilettante spouting off, he’s a man of the world, lived abroad, and his own father was assassinated by terrorists. If he wants to talk about things other than basketball, it’s likely worth your time to listen.
Alas, it won’t be available in my viewing area, which is only about sixty-five bucks a month.
Streameast my brother in purple.
Nada
FINALLY. Longest offseason ever.
I will be looking at how McDaniel fits in to the rotation tonight. Lyles being out gives McDaniels a prime opportunity to show if he can get some regular minutes.
Same with Colby. Opportunity is there to show what he can do.
??? Kings listed on Bay Area Sports. Why is there soccer?
Just came on here to ask the same thing. Don’t tease me like this, NBC Sports CA!
Ignoring the guide on my Hulu, it’s on ESPN tonight.
I know the game doesn’t matter but…
Beat The Warriors! Go Kings! F!!! Bob Myers!
I’m thrilled to see DeRozan in a Kings jersey for the first time. And I’m arguably just as excited for lots of Colby, Mason, Isaac, Crawford, McDaniels, and Boogie minutes to see what we may have in them.
That Deebo middy is a thing of beauty
He was the missing ingredient. I can’t believe how good his fit in the offense already looks.
It appears you cannot stop the Kings in transition, and you cannot stop DeMar and Sabonis in the halfcourt. It’s gonna be a good season, ladies and gents.
Uncalled moving screen on Green, it’s the Golden State refs alright
Jones and McDaniels shouldn’t even be in the rotation in a couple weeks, two of the first three off the bench and are 0-3 combined
McDaniels looks bad
Fox and Keegan not good enough to start
better these last few mins.
Gotta relearn how to play defense again
Defense relearned
Warriors are 12/22 from 3 and the Kings are leading. Kings lead on FTA, FTM, Rebs, Points in the Paint and have fewer TOs. More physical, more ways to create offense than “Steph and Draymond create for everyone else”. They’re simply a better team, and Huerter, Lyles, McLaughlin, and Carter aren’t even here lol.
He doesn’t really look like he knows what he’s doing out there but I don’t hate what I’ve seen from Jones
Which one? Lol. If you mean Mason, I agree. Colby needs to be more aggressive and playmake. He and Mason are the creators out there together, he’s not acting like it. Letting McDaniels playmake, ech.
Yeah Mason, mostly going off of the energy and those two threes he made almost back-to-back
He’s certainly working hard, it doesn’t always look smooth though
SKAL!
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
The Kings swapped out Harrison Barnes for a steady 25-30 halfcourt points every night and the media really said “not sure if this is gonna work.” Lol.
McDaniels, Broderic Thomas, Terry Taylor nor Skal Labissiere are NBA players. Colby is not good enough, either, sad to say. Boogie and Crawford had flashes, but not too impressed, either.
Mason Jones works hard and is confident and aggressive with the ball in his hands. It doesn’t always look pretty, but he produces. I’d probably give him a contract and make Boogie the final two-way with Crawford and Isaac Jones. Isaac can rebound, score in the paint, and defend around the rim – exactly what we need. Needs to be more consistent, and nice if he could maybe knock down a three.
Alex Len continues to be a reliable workhorse. Not nearly as skilled as Domas, but works hard, protects the rim, rebounds, moves the ball, and makes plays around the rim. Love this guy. Every year the Kings have brought in a guy to replace him and every year he has outworked and outproduced the competition.
Domas is taking and making open mid range jumpers with confidence! Holy crap! GS was letting him take them and he knocked down a couple. Also showed some aggressiveness creating for himself. Loved what I saw out of him – could be a career year. He could give the offense an entirely new dimension himself along with the addition of DDR.
Keegan is looking good in his new role of defending the best wing, spacing the floor, rebounding, getting out in transition, and being aggressive in getting his own shot. DDR makes his life much easier. Catch the ball and either shoot or drive hard against the closeout.
Keon was good, not great. Certainly didn’t make me think that KH couldn’t possibly do any better.
Fox and Monk will be steadily productive as always. The team needs Huerter, Lyles, McLaughlin, and Carter to bolster this bench.
Today’s Depth Chart IMO:
Fox Monk McLaughlin Boogie
Keon Carter Mason J
DDR KH Crawford Colby J
Keegan Lyles Isaac J McDaniels
Sabonis Len Robinson
