Great podcast, as always. Fun to hear Jerry talking about what DeRozan brings, and what that will mean to Sabonis. With the likelihood of not needing to score as much, Domas will likely improve some of his other metrics, assists, perhaps? After all, he’s only a few assists per game away from averaging a triple-double.
Dribble, hand off to DeRozan, BUCKET!
They’ll be able to do that in their sleep after a month.
31 on the all time scoring list and climbing. Every eligible player that has scored as much as DDR is in the HOF. So yeah, a sure fire HOFer.
Wait until he adds bringing a title to sac…first ballot stuff there haha
Drafted in the same class as Steph and has just 86 fewer career points than Steph. DDR is a testament to durability and consistency.
That’s a wild stat, I would have never guessed that. Impressive career resume being put together by DDR.
Which one ends up with the most career points after all is said and done?
There are 511 days (1 year, 4 months, 24 days) between the older Steph Curry’s birthday (March 14, 1988) and DeMar DeRozan (Aug 7, 1989).
Edey 14/15/4blk making kessler look like a baby…dudes gonna be a problem for the league on offense
It’s still so early to project but man that might be a perfect fit for Edey. Memphis will be scary if that works out. Not sure if Jenkins is the guy but their roster looks great.
I always remind myself that Donte Greene scored 44 points in a summer league game, and Ray MacCallum was a VSL MVP. But good grief, that man is full grown!
Do we know for sure? Maybe he’s still growing!
This should get a lot of use with Zach Edey around..

On another note –
Very interesting to see all the rave reviews of Cooper Flagg by TeamUSA
Cue up the Capture the Flagg tank cries (hat tip Akis).
He has the ability to be great. I think playing with these type of players will solidify his place in the draft. If he has the nod of approval from the superstars he is safe in most GM’s eyes.
He was going to be #1 before this Summer’s performances. He’s headed to Duke. The number one spot is his until someone can knock him from that perch.
Wemby was last year, Cooper Flagg next year. The future of hoops appears bright.
Yes. The number one spot becomes more solid now. The GM’s have more people confirming what they think. He is a unique athlete.
He may decide to play for more than one year at Duke if someone manages to knock him out of the top ten?
#NeverForget

It’s about time that we hoist that bitch into the rafters.
I completely understand we see the world differently and I am ok with that.
Why use the derogatory terms?
Women do read this and might even participate in the conversation.
Pipe down, AnyoneButBagley.
I enjoy talking basketball here. You clearly don’t like any new opinions.
Is that someone you shouted down before?
Enjoy your day.
Calling a trophy a bitch offends you? And it is interesting that your mind instantly associated the word bitch with women. Maybe I’m not the problem here?
In the few days I have been here you have always clarified your position and dug in.
Appreciate that clarity. You don’t hide.
I even use my real and full name. You should try it. It really makes you stand behind what you post.
Nice manip, Sum-Sum.
It is no secret that the word is historically associated with women. SKC is not the only one. It is gaslighting to suggest that SKC made up that association.
Respectfully disagree. It all comes down to how each of us use and associate the word. And context matters. To wit, there is not one woman in the picture that I was referencing.
That said, those that are offended should email The Kings Herald, as the site moderators will give the complaint its due diligence.
The funny thing, the protestations over my use of the word “bitch” has given the word “bitch” much more time and attention in this thread. Ain’t that a bitch?
Respect well taken and always given. This reference doesn’t rise to the level of moderation, obviously to me anyhow. As an old guy, one of my disappointments in the world of discourse is the coarsening of our language to the point that the origins of the terms becomes lost. For example, saying something “sucks” is originally a fellatio reference, and now it is part of common parlance. Trust me, I am not known as a prude, and I drop my share of F bombs, but this is something I notice on the regular. I posted earlier in the week about references to violence and got roasted for it. I don’t take it personally, and I am sure we would have a great time enjoying beverages, and I hope we have some TKH nights this season. I have never been to one, but I am sure I would enjoy it. Know Peace.
You have gone into a reality that is of no concern to him.
Trying way, way too hard here.
I express an opinion then the cool kids attack.
Very little effort on my part.
You’re the only one associating it to women…you see that right?
I say what I think. The cool kids get upset.
I didn’t “attack”, and you’re the one name calling here.
It seems as though the only person calling anyone names in this thread is you. And who exactly are the “cool kids”?
Cool TKH kids and the Loch Ness monster hang out on the regular.
The real cool TKH kids hang out with the Brock Ness Monster
Well-played, you bastard.*
*Use here of the word “bastard” was in no way meant to suggest that commenter exists as a result of an illegitimate coupling between immoral persons. It was meant colloquially, in the same manner as referring to someone as a “son-of-a-bitch.” +
+Use here of the word “bitch” in the phrase “son-of-a-bitch” was in no way m_____________________
I suppose the only thing I have noted watching your exchange with Rob and others the last few days is that you feel very comfortable with voicing your opinion about his posts, then complain with quips like “the cool kids get upset” or “cool kids attack” or “circle the wagons if anyone disagrees”. Guess what, just as you are allowed to have an opinion about Rob’s comments, other posters are allowed to have opinions about your comments as well.
You are not getting shouted down because you are having a different opinion, perhaps some people are but certainly not most. You are getting shouted down because your attempts at justifying your point are at best feeble, but mostly defensive and somewhat thin skinned, which is disappointing, because you seem to really enjoy the Kings and I have enjoyed reading your initial contributions.
Rob is popular, and a long time contributor, but also gets disagreed with quite a bit (I still find his opinion that Westphal had not lost the team at the beginning of 2011-12 preposterous and we spent nine games going back and forth In post game comments incessantly before Westphal was fired, to the delight of absolutely no other poster I am sure). He doesn’t need a calvary to ride to his rescue, nor does he want one, but you sure seem to feel victimized by people doing what you are doing, disagreeing with a commenter.
For the same reason as Rob, I use my real name in social media. My Dad taught me if I was not man enough to deal with the blowback from something I said, maybe I wasn’t man enough to say it in the first place. You are not going to hurt Rob’s feelings, you should try to not let yours get hurt either.
Let’s see if I can piss everybody off. You guys are all kinda being dicks (see what I did there?) about this, if I’m being honest.
I don’t typically say “bitch” or various other borderline words at work or in front of my wife or family or even here, though I’ve been known to drop a “SOB” from time to time.
I’ve read enough of Rob’s writing over 20 (!?) years that I’m very confident that his intentions are good and he’s generally careful and thoughtful about what he says. That’s context the new person doesn’t have.
I think there might also be a generational difference where us older people look at context and intention, and some younger folks are focused strictly on words, sometimes moving into the view where intentions don’t matter and “language is violence” which, with the exception of a few words/doxxing, etc., whoo boy I have opinions about.
Anyway, I think Rob is fine, I understand ShaneKC’s point, and I think the dogpile that happened here sucks (did I do the thing again?)
Maybe I have my own issues with this, depending on where your line for borderline language is drawn. Final note: George Carlin is the best comedian ever, especially after Dave Chapelle became such a whiny little
I appreciate your perspective. Thanks for contributing your thoughts. For me it is simple. I am a father of a young woman who is an athlete and avid Kings fan. She does read these articles and sometimes finds the comments to be entertaining as well. She doesn’t want to join the conversation about something she has grown up around and loves because she doesn’t want a bunch of good ole boys shouting her down. She probably knows more about this team than the majority of us that choose to participate. She knows more about this team than I do. That is our loss.
I get it. It is a trophy. The slur with context or without context is a slur that has obvious meanings and implications.
I doubt anyone would walk into the G1 Center or any other public place and talk that way. As a season ticket holder I have seen many people escorted out for using slurs. It isn’t acceptable and it shouldn’t be. I am of the same generation or close to it based on what I can infer by reading these comments in the past few days. The younger generation, especially one’s own children, are a mirror into our unknown shortcomings. It is worth looking into that mirror.
Back to basketball, the players on the court use this slur and many others for the obvious negative impact directed at the opponent.
Is it right in that context? That isn’t for me to decide.
Do they say the same things off the court in public? No they don’t.
Apples and oranges when comparing players like Ray and Greene to Edey, specifically as a prospect.
Edey is going to be Yao Ming Lite at the next level, the league is sleeping on him.
Give him a year or two to adjust to the speed and athleticism of the NBA and see where he’s at. Remember, the league is trending big again and with the perfect 4 next to him in JJJ, the sky is the limit for a behemoth like Edey.
He could absolutely be something. He could be the next Mark Eaton. Or the next Alex Len. Or more. Or less.
Or, dare we say it:
The next
All right shoe fanatics. What brand is Joe wearing? That logo doesn’t look familiar to me. You got the Faker guy behind him in New Balance, but what’s Joe wearing?
Pony.
They were big in Europe back in the days…
Did anyone else notice that he’s wearing Left shoes on both feet?
And both hands.
Nice! I didn’t even know they made basketball shoes back in the day. Seemed like that’s what all the boxers wore back then, but I’d never seen Pony high tops/basketball shoes before.
Pony changed their name to “Sebastian” in 2011.
K-Mart
Kevin Martin?
The store, not the player…
From the baby blue unis, to the immaculate hair, to the sneakers to the white socks with stripes and capped off with the wrist bands…just an absolute beauty of a picture! Not to mention James Worthy in the background wearing daisy dukes.
Dammit Kosta.
I was going to say Paul Mokeski.
Joe Kleine is much funnier. One of my least favorite Kings of all time, for no reason other than my being irrational. He might be the 15th best center the Kings have had in Sacramento, probably closer to 17th.
I agree. When he gets the next level of speed and defenses sorted out the NBA is going to be adjusting to him.
I agree with Jerry about Jordan Ford. He’s looked good every time I’ve seen him play and looks like an ideal 3rd guard type guy, yet it doesn’t look like he’ll make the roster, so go figure.
You never know, the opportunities will be there for him to prove himself. He does seem like the ideal 3rd guard type.
It does seem that his good stats and play aren’t given much consideration . Maybe another G-League season and someone will notice .
He is a local kid that has put in the work. It would be good to see him get another chance. G league or a two way deal might be the peak of his career. I enjoy seeing people chase the dream and put in the work to get there.
Whenever I’ve watched him play, he certainly doesn’t pop off the screen like some elite athlete, but his movement and ability to create his own shot are truly impressive.
I hope he can find a meaningful role in the league someplace. If I had to guess, it’s his size that gives analysts pause about his prospects, but he may just be good enough to overcome it. I’m rooting for him.
Enjoyed Jerry giving Rob Hessing his flowers . Must be a senior citizen thing ????
These dudes don’t want us on their lawn. And they instructed us to get off it!
Jerry is a gentleman and a scholar, and there are damned few of us left.
Speaking of older gentlemen, remember when the Kings hoisted that Mitch into the rafters?
Kosta, how dare you! There are likely people named Mitch who read TKH! <clutches pearls>
(Resists Bitch Richmond joke.)
I remember Jerry Reynolds holding up a sign in support of Mitch Richmond leading up to the All-star selections that read:
NO MITCH
I BITCH

Congrats on the marriage, Will (formerly of tha people).
I hope it was a great day and that the honeymoon will be just as great!
I’d like to also offer my Congratulations and Mazel Tov as well.
For those not on Twitter….Will posted a photo, and none other than Jerry Reynolds was at the ceremony!
Life is beautiful.
You don’t see too many weddings where one of the entree choices is popcorn.
On a side note, I’d love to spend an afternoon talking with Jerry about all the players, coaches, etc., that have cycled through during his time here. He must have stories for days. It’d be awesome to get the straight dope from somebody who’s probably seen/heard it all (including the unsavory stuff) going on four (!) decades now.
I would read his book. If he doesn’t want to write he definitely has the skills to make an audio book.
His book ( Reynolds Remembers ) was a great read . Was published many years ago .
Awesome!
I will have to check that out. I had no idea he wrote a book. I am sure it is a literary master piece that will not get its just due until it is recognized as a gift to humanity centuries from now.
I still remember his booking signing at Arco during one of the games some 15 plus years ago.
There was one copy left on Amazon. Be cool to get it signed next time I see him.
He has 2 books. Reynolds Remembers from 2005 and Tales from the Sacramento Kings Locker Room from 2014
Both available from Amazon Hard cover and on Kindle
I am glad I mentioned the book. Now I know.
Detroit claimed Paul Reed off of waivers. They want him for depth…or maybe to fill in the Beef Stew sized hole after they trade him for Huerter!
Take a flyer on UFA Luka Samanic. Young, athletic with size and skills … maybe some untapped potential can be unlocked …poor 3 pt shooting so far, but has good mechanics …
Just a thought. All of use have been talking about Collins and Stewart. What about Tari Eason as a PF candidate?
Tari Eason is probably the best suggestion I’ve seen since Jalen Smith went off the market. I’d give up a first for him in a heartbeat.
It is so foreign and yet so wonderful to log onto nba.com and see the link to their “which free agent landed where” page and have a picture of a player holding up a Kings jersey as the into pic.
I had to do a double take because my mind read it as an LAC jersey… and then, wait, no, that’s the Kings!
Let’s go Holland!
Sound on.
Over 100,000 Dutch fans in Dortmund for the Euro semifinals against England.
Sorry about your Oranje, Rik. The game was a thriller from Xavi Simons’ magnificent goal to the very end.
