Ben McLemore is a King. This is good news. But it raises some questions! This post addresses the most popular questions.

MYTH NO. 1: TYREKE IS GONE
The Kings picked a shooting guard — a true shooting guard — at No. 7. This must mean that the incumbent shooting guard, Tyreke Evans, won't be back. Not necessarily. Need I remind you that Tyreke Evans has played three positions regularly as a King, and won Rookie of the Year averaging 20-5-5 as a point guard. There's no guarantee Evans comes back; I have a feeling Pete D'Alessandro and friends will leave that decision up to the market. There's a price where bringing Evans back to play with McLemore makes sense, and a price where it doesn't. But just because Tyreke played two-guard and McLemore is a two-guard, that doesn't mean Evans is gone.

MYTH NO. 2: THOMAS ROBINSON HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH MCLEMORE
Thomas Robinson is from Kansas University, slipped in the draft and was picked by the Kings. He did not work out in Sacramento. Ben McLemore is from Kansas University, slipped in the draft and was picked by the Kings. It doesn't matter. That's called coincidence. There is not something inherent in Kansas basketball that makes crummy NBA players. Further, we have no idea how Robinson will end up. He's played one season, and sparingly. And a different front office made the decision to pick him and trade him.

MYTH NO. 3: SCOT POLLARD KNOWS SOMETHING NO ONE ELSE DOES
Scot Pollard said the Kings shouldn't take T-Rob in 2012 after watching him play for a season up close. It turns out the Kings shouldn't have taken T-Rob. Pollard was mixed on McLemore, not an advocate. But guess what? Scot Pollard, bless him, is a local broadcast analyst in Lawrence, Kansas. Pete D'Alessandro is an NBA general manager. I'm going to go with the NBA general manager.

MYTH NO. 4: BEN MCLEMORE IS A SURE THING
First, there are no sure things in the NBA draft. Second, the highly respected friend-of-StR Kevin Pelton rated McLemore as the No. 18 prospect in the draft based on WARP, owing primarily to Mac's low usage rate and low free throw rate. That's a concern.

MYTH NO. 5: BEN MCLEMORE WILL SOLVE ALL OF THE KINGS' PROBLEMS
Adding talent is part of the process of making this team better. Defense, especially in the paint, is still a huge concern. Small forward is still an issue. (I mean, Tyreke Evans is still the best small forward on the roster.) This is part of the process. The work is really just beginning. I know we all know that, but it bears repeating.
